I must say I like it when opponents of social healthcare argue their point rationally. I tend not to agree with them, but there are two sides to this debate. Its unfortunate when morons behave this way (in the video), it angers everybody and gets in the way of meaningful dialogue.

when I was 12, I cut my pinky finger off (it's reattached now). I went to the emergency room, covered in blood, my hand wrapped in a dish towel. You would think they would see me right away... no. The woman at the counter talked to us for 2 seconds, got a phone call and completely ignored us until my dad went off, they gave us some paperwork to fill out and I still had to wait like 20 minutes before seeing a doctor to put my finger back on... I was lucky I didn't lose my finger.

Your figure of 3% is bullshit and I hope you know it. Medicare works on about a 3% overhead but the health insurance companies pay roughly 15% to 25% in salaries to its executives, overheads etc.

I'm British and our waiting lists can be pretty bad sometimes, but my example was about the French system. As for doctors, we can get same day appointments most of the time if you are ill. For a check up you might wait a week or two, you might not.

I feel that big government can be controlled, whereas big business is inherently corrupt and able to transcend national borders and allegiances. We all want the same thing in terms of fairness, opportunities and eficacy. But the argument on both sides gets hijacked by those who do not share this sentiment.

That's not really the point though is it? France has the BEST healthcare in the world. Its hospitals and clinics are privately owned but publicly funded. This means that efficiency is paramount, but profit is secondary to care. Take the government out of care and you take the care out of care.

The US economy was already in decline when Obama became president, the recession had already begun. In fact, day one of Obama's presidency Republicans were calling it "Obama's Recession". when I was 12, I cut my pinky finger off (it's reattached now). I went to the emergency room, covered in blood, my hand wrapped in a dish towel. You would think they would see me right away... no. The woman at the counter talked to us for 2 seconds, got a phone call and completely ignored us until my dad went off, they gave us some paperwork to fill out and I still had to wait like 20 minutes before seeing a doctor to put my finger back on... I was lucky I didn't lose my finger.

@gibblets17 I agree with your comment about banker thugs, except that the FED is independent of the government. The FED won't even tell congress who it leant cash to in case "the market becomes prejudiced against those companies".
I'm British and our waiting lists can be pretty bad sometimes, but my example was about the French system. As for doctors, we can get same day appointments most of the time if you are ill. For a check up you might wait a week or two, you might not.

@gibblets17 I'm on the same page as you with this. Our only diference I feel is ideological rather than practical. I feel that big government can be controlled, whereas big business is inherently corrupt and able to transcend national borders and allegiances. We all want the same thing in terms of fairness, opportunities and eficacy. But the argument on both sides gets hijacked by those who do not share this sentiment.

@labrat1807 i am a practical man. i wish all our freedoms could be preserved and that we could make sure all corporations had the best interests in mind and not only the bottom line but we cant. not without sacrificing our own freedoms. "those who sacrifice liberties for security deserve neither" - Benjamin Franklin besides i trust in the American people because its not the government or corporations that will fix our problems. BUT US. we need to not take the easy route.

@gibblets17 Franklin was right, but is limiting the actions of the wealthiest 1% of America and their corporations really going to affect your liberty? I don't think you can make that case. It's a case of wolves in sheeps clothing. During your revolution there were loads of people who thought it was in America's best interests to remain loyal to the King of England, but they were wrong. It is just as wrong to support the new Kings of America (ie the banks and their buddies).

That's not really the point though is it? France has the BEST healthcare in the world. Its hospitals and clinics are privately owned but publicly funded. This means that efficiency is paramount, but profit is secondary to care. Take the government out of care and you take the care out of care.

I've been to a number of these rallies and have never, repeat NEVER, seen such behavior. It's like the alleged use of the "N-word", nobody ever did come forward with a tape to claim the $100K reward did they?. If anything, this video was staged or perpetrated by the Left to distort the truth-notice how the bigmouths all had sunglasses on so that they couldn't be identified? Forget this propaganda and come to a rally and see what it's really all about!

Regarding your "paranoia" comment, I've been to several rallies/marches, have observed no such behavior, and in fact do know from my own personal experience that the media has misrepresented the rallies I attended. I'm a poli sci/history junkie with degrees in both and make it a point to view reporting from both sides, and much prefer primary sources over the politically slanted commentary that we today call news

Attend one with open eyes and an honest heart and then watch the major media coverage of the same event. Again, did anyone come forward with film of the alleged "n" word and claim the $100K? I marched to raise funds to stop hunger today, what did you do?

I'm not buying that they staged the whole thing to paint the tea party people as bad. I see the signs they hold and the things they say on live TV, and that shows me what kind of people they are. The group I go to the rallies with all volunteer in soup kitchens and food pantries, work with disabled vets, and city kids - That's the Movement and you don't see that on CBS, NBC or ABC! You say you get your info from live TV, realize that reporters will always pick extremists/nuts out of a crowd to suit their agendas whether left or right. Don't paint with such a wide brush.

It does have a lot of freedoms in key social areas but is still bared in many areas with the laws it puts up and the limitations set forth. If it was true freedom it would be anarchy so yes we do need structure of some sort. i'm not from America i'm from England but always wanted to move to the states oneday because I always liked the idea of living in a huge country which is free and where the people are mostly respectful of each other.
I have no idea of who the Tea Partiers are, I don't know anything about the American health care system or any other system in the US.
What I do know is it was a very bad display to see a poor old man with a disease getting mocked like that and degraded. I felt sorry for him

I do not feel the need to worship either political party as most do, but the Republicans are simply the lesser of two evils. The Democrates did not used to be as bad as they are today, but they have become so deluded that they are hard to understand anymore.

The US economy was already in decline when Obama became president, the recession had already begun. In fact, day one of Obama's presidency Republicans were calling it "Obama's Recession". That's right, apparently before he was even in office he caused the recession that begun during the Bush administration.

@gibblets17 This recession has NOTHING to do with spending. It was caused solely by a corrupt unregulated banking system, a system which the Reps deregulated. I note how the Dems haven't brought regulation back, but the blame for this particular situation lies squarely with those who said 'trust the banks, stop interfering with them'. Those people were the advocates of the Washington Concensus and Free Trade Economics. Its Free Trade for the banks, free cardboard boxes for the rest of us.

He was not talking about the rights of big companies to regulate themselves and make as much money as possible. The Democratic congress, the last two years of Bush, are the ones who ordered banks to give loans to people, for $250000.00 homes, who made less than $20000.00 a year. Most defaulted on the first monthly payment! Then (stupidly) Bush listened to dems. and bailed out the market, AIG, and whomever else, the economy was fine before then. This is the start of the socialist / liberals plan, they will take over everything, and when there is not enough to go around, they will cull the heard, that's us!
