I loved this movie. I just don't think this should be remade. I get that Tarantino is a fan of Russ Meyer and all, but wasn't Death Proof already enough of his attempt at remaking this? It's not even that I hold a grudge against remakes provided they are done well. Movies like this made today are a dime a dozen. Movies like this made back then were gems--this is a gem.

It would be impossible for the average woman to be fatter without also having bigger hips, especially considering the higher amount of growth hormones used in foods today.

Pin-ups were marketed towards men and were therefore what women in the pages of men's magazines and porn films are today. High fashion models in the 40's, 50's, and 60's were still slimmer than the average woman, the difference being that femininity was still upheld as the ideal, whereas high fashion today favours a lot of masculine and androgynous traits.

@jodharry I definitely acknowledge there being an unhealthy physical standard in the fashion industry today; my point is just that it effects such a small percentage of women that the issue doesn't deserve a fraction of the attention it gets. Even in Hollywood today, the majority of sex symbols and in demand actresses are curvy or at least of average weight. The number of underweight people in the Western world has not risen greatly and is still mostly comprised by the naturally thin.

I did a quick search and the percentage of underweight adults has actually dropped from 4% in 1962 to 1.8% today. So this apparent trend of increased extremes in both ends of the weight scale is probably just an illusion perpetuated by the media's obsession with thinness.
