Serious head on..... How often do multi veh pile ups like that with multiple fatalitys happen in the UK ? Rarely is the answer. 5th gear do love a good scare mongering. Instead of stunts like this why cant they drop 911,s thro caravans and shit ? Much more informative and entertaining.

@doraemon8061 Smarts are very tough, so yeah, it would have done better than the Escort and the Uno, BUT; I dont know how safe the back of a smart is... someone should crash test the rear end of it. :)

Mercedes is far away a safer car than any of those new cars, you may go out walking from that accident if you drive the mercedes... the car deformation is controled,,,, look out for crash tests of that mercedes model and you will be surprised, the conduct crash test since 1930...

good point but the results would still be pretty much the same a 70 nin a old or new car, i would imagine, i m surprised the didn't have a truck to see what would hammpen if that crashed into the back of a line of staonary cars on th motorway

Decelerate any car from 70 to 0 in 10 feet and you'll probably die. New car or old - humans can't take that level of abuse. Besides which, not all cars on the road are up to date. I drove an Escort just like that a few years ago.

@cloud010101 it's a heavy engine at high speed vs a "parked" fiat uno with nothing in the trunk, it could be any luxury car there, it would kill the guys inside anyway. My mom have a 2004 fiat uno and it's a very economic car, we have nothing to complain about it, sorry bad english!
