  • Was this filmed with a potato?

  • Greatest ever game Wembley had ever seen. If only Lionel hadn't come out to let the goalscoring legend that is Richard Rufus put the ball in the back of the net. The season after was class though, 105 points and beautiful football

  • Epic day. what's happened to Lee Bowyer recently though ? Hes lost thr plot. Mendonca will remain an Addick legend. Oh, and how we need a Richard Rufus at the back now

  • Epic day. what's happened to Lee Bowyer recently though ? Hes lost thr plot. Mendonca will remain an Addick legend.

  • Best day of my life. Don't tell the missus though

  • VALLEY FLOYD ROAD, THE MIST ROLLING IN FROM THE THAMES - MY DESIRE, IS ALWAYS TO BE FOUND AT VALLEY FLOYD ROAD.

  • but 12 years on look at where the 2 clubs are, that's why we all love football

  • @mddsafc247 :( not very nice, football is full of ups and downs and well charlton are on and very bad down

  • There was a little time when watching QUinn and Philips you just thought "these two could score against *anyone*... and Michael Bridges looked like the next Alan Shearer or Christian Vieri or something... but it only lasted about 20 minutes I think.

  • Lionel Perez is a tit!

But one hell of a game. What a way to ruin my birthday!

  • as a sunderland fan even my ex-wife went away for this weekend but what a final to grace the grand old stadium

  • Mendonca born sunderland fan too :( damn lol Great game this though. much respect for Charlton, hope to see them in the Prem again soon!

  • yeah where are you now you twats! cya later

  • it was truly an awesome play off! for the neutral spectator ... wow

  • No knockout blow from any party in the final leaders' debate,

49% of people are thought to be undecided! What is at stake are peoples jobs, mortgages, businesses, homes and their living standards. You cannot take a risk with these things and put them in the hands of Cameron, the Tories are determined to use the global financial crisis to pivot this country back to the bad old Tory days of social division and North-South divide Nothing fixes a thing so intensely in memory as the wish to forget it

  • @greatwhitepoet Save your naive socialist bollocks for political debate, this is a video of a football match. Cheers.

  • i was there but went out back wen penaltys on....gutted we got beat....was great day....im from hartlepool and me and few lads from sunderland went down....i borrowed a window licker bus to drive down...only dun 60mph was rite laugh...

  • Second best game I have ever witnessed!

What a show both teams put on!

I am sorry to see Charltons current status. Here's hoping you catch dirty Leeds and go up auto!

Respect from Sunderland. SAFC FTM till I die!

  • @itsallac0nspiracy lol dirty leeds u puff

  • ha ha ha ha absolutely battered you gypos tonight!

    4-0 4-0 4-0 4-0 4-0 4-0 4-0 4-0 4-0 4-0

we are the pride of south london

come to the den and you'll go home empty handed! we are millwall

    SUPER MILLWALL

  • fuck millwall. looking foward in facing you lot on the 13th ;) COMON YOU REDS !!!!

  • Just think you were at the premiership and at wembley then you flopped up and are only gettin 4-4 draws with us with millwall on 10 men and charlton with 2 pens and millwalls og!

    crap

  • @mfctom300 enjoy ur game at wembley vs scunthorpe?

  • @mfctom300 i know pathetic init especially against a little club like yous

  • @mfctom300

fuck off you silly millwall cunt, this video involves two proper football clubs not some two bob pathetic load of wank from lewisham.

we may be on a downer at the moment but we will ALWAYS be bigger than you. shit fan base, shit ground, no major honours. form is temporary, but history doesn't lie.

fact of the matter is, you're a cunt.

  • @redsirens09 Yeah, keep telling yourself that and one day you might be in a good league. Oh wow you beat Arsenal like 200years ago, congratulations!

Pathetic Fans? Your the ones who sing red red robin whenever you come out.

    4-0 ENOUGH SAID

  • @mfctom300

    "oh wow, you beat arsenal"

"oh wow, you beat US about 6 months ago." thing is, does anybody give a fuck? millwall are just some pikeys from lewisham, you're not our rivals. for the first time in about 30 years you're in a higher league than us. palace are our rivals, you're just the jokers who cling to us when we're on a downer.

we'll ALWAYS be bigger than you. now THAT, is nuff said. 17,000 at the valley yesterday for a league one game. you won't get that in the champ you cunt.

  • well said!

  • @redsirens09

We never said you are our rivals, you're the ones that cling onto other teams trying to establish a "rivalry". Palace don't see you as rivals either by the way, nobody gives a damn about Charlton.

Again, I'm sure you being bigger than us is way better than us being in a higher league than you. I'm sure teams like Blackpool bow before the likes of the mighty Charlton.

  • @mfctom300

"you might be in a good league?" ahaha, you've NEVER been in the prem. when we were in the prem you didn't see us giving it the big'un. WHO ARE MILLWALL? go to any country, tell them you support millwall - they will look at you like you've just made up a team.

charlton has history, an identity. millwall has nothing. a ground falling to pieces, never filled, full of pussies who attach themselves to this club to make 'emselves look hard. they're not. bet you weren't at bristol cunt.

  • @redsirens09 haha If you say you support Charlton u get your mouth wiped due to you dribbling and you get your train timetable knicked of you!

When is a key word in your comment.

Dont forget the year your in mate!!

  • @redsirens09 exactly. Millwall are goin down and Charlton are goin up!

  • @Damon12071207

because your team have such a good record against Millwall that you surely belong in a league higher than them.

  • @redsirens09

Keep saying that, I'm sure that makes you feel a lot better about the current plight of your club.

  • i was there best game ive ever seen

  • What a game, super Clive. Anyone know the name of the commentator? It's bugging me.

  • Peter Drury

  • I'm sure that if charlton lost that day it would still hurt me now. On the day most Sunderland fans were so amazing. Respect to the mackems on our day in the sun.

  • On that day, Mendonca was the greatest striker in the world

  • millwall go fuck yourself your just jealous u werent in this game.

  • this game IS by far the best ever play-off final,

dispte the lads loosing, it was an amazing game,

    Sunderland Till I Die

  • i was at this game and i was 14 at the time and im 25 still yet to witness a game as good as this, had good crack with the charlton supporters hope you lads bounce back. Ha'way the lads FTM!!!

  • one of best games av seen like

  • Richard Rufus, what a guy

  • i dont get it haow charlton ever got to a play off final... They are the worst fucking team in england! Suck my dick all of you who disagree.. fuck you

  • Deary me...you must be a millwall fan. How sad - we really have gone back a few evolutionary steps with you.

  • i think u must be blind, or totally ignorant, because u r obv basing this on your narrow minded opinion. i wouldnt expect anymore from someone like u. probs a millwall/palace/man utd fan

  • @warlord4254 I am sorry about that fucked comment. A friend of mine tought it would be hillarious if he went on my youtube and got everyone to hate me. Don't really see the logic there... Anyways, I have nothing personal against charlton and i'm sorry bout the comment he left.

I am a United fan though...

  • @solsvik2

a united fan? says it all. bet you've never been to old trafford you sop - you think 'cos you watch manyoo on sky every week it makes you a supporter? haha, it doesn't. your knowledge is probably a joke and your opinion worthless. go and tell other plastics who give a shit what you think.

  • charton scum

  • Wonder what would have happened if Sunderland had won...

  • easily the best game I have seen in my 12 years following the addicks

  • Bloody hell i was gutted after this I hate being a Sunderland fan sometimes bloody penalties. Bloody mickey gray!!!

  • i was at my son's 4th birthday. I MISSED IT!!!

  • Wow this brought some memories.. The best game I have ever been at!

  • "Live by the sword"

  • mendoncas trird had to be goal of the year

  • The best charlton match I ever saw has to be the 2-3 win at spurs 04/05 season I didn't go to this one

  • Definately one of the greatest games at Wembley I've ever seen. Both teams deserved to go up and Sunderland did get promoted the following season.

  • what's the other team? Sunderland?

  • Yep

  • what a game, i was there, still cant believe we lost it! never mind, went up next season

  • i remember at the time the lads who went to the match telling me both charlton fans and our fans were all socialising and drinking together afterwards without any trouble, i think everyone was in awe of what they just witnessed, absolute classic game!!

  • C'mon Charlton we will go back up to the Championship!!!

  • we came,we saw we conquered!!!!!!!epic game

  • greatest game i have ever saw. we had spells in the game where we were like brazil. and our fans were even better than that.

  • Many thanx for posting, Greatest game I ever saw live. If someone told me that Sunderland would walk away from Wembley scoring 10 goals but losing I would of called them an idiot bur that's exactly what happened.

  • I love how Peter Reid at the end walks past all his other players and straight to Michael Gray

  • Comment removed

  • i remember i was 7 years old when i went to this match. We lost, but it was still one of the greatest matches ever, certainly the best play-off final of ALL time.

    Credit to Charlton though.

  • Just to think, this season 1997-98 Stockport County finished eighth in this division. How the mighty have fallen...!

  • @county4life

mighty? it appears you mis-spelt the word "shite" mate.

  • Watch out Charlton, your playing the Mighty Gills next year! UP THE GILLS!!!

  • By far the greatest Sunderland match in my lifetime haha

  • The skunks are down!!! Ha

  • i wonder if the "crunching" tackle at 3:14 would be allowed now! Good old steve brown...

  • lol.Probably not

  • but mate. look where you are now compared to us!!!!!!!

    EXACTLY. MUCH BETTER SIDE

  • Yep, we had a rubbish season. Yep, we deserved to go down. But never ever under estimate the mighty Charlton. We WILL be back...

  • shame...league one

  • best game i have ever seen

in my first seoasn as well lol

  • Last game in the championship, my page

  • failers

  • i don't understand the meaning of palace fans celebrating us going down. i mean, it could be you next year. it could be anybody. look at southampton, a team who had been in the top two leagues since 1959, they might be going down this year. also, why have a funeral for somebody that's not dead??? we will get promoted again some day, i think next year and when we do, in typical charlton fashion, we will be better than ever. why should a club like palace with NO cups to their name be happy???

  • the best ever game at wembley bar none and none has even gone close

  • best 4-4 ever just above Arsenal 4-4 Spurs

  • this was the very first game i went to see sunderland play. 10 years still supporting the mighty black cats!

  • the wait is over! you are finaly gona be relagated tomorow at coventry ha ha ha my season is complete

  • i think you will find mate, that im a sunderland fan, hence my name.

  • yea my mistake i must of hit the reply button next to ur name COME ON COVENTRY!!!

  • Fuck it, we kicked ass that day, end of

  • come on charlton get rid of loanees for next year plese

  • i was at this match as a sunderland and this was the best game iv ever been to and the one of the best games ever played a wembally. it was heart breaking for the sunderland but this was an unforgetable match

  • We might get a decent game against Brighton, anyway - it gets boring when Palarse only win one league game against us in 13 years...

  • 'Twas a defining moment.

However, the Huddersfield game back in the '50's was easily the greatest. I would know because my grandfather was a player in that game for Charlton.

The shame of it all, is that the Valley is a Premiereship stadium. Look at it. It's beautiful. May we have better luck in the upcoming seasons.

  • video quality is appalling

  • Sad to see the situation the Addicks are in, was always a good game Charlton/Bolton, particularly back in the First Division. I know it's no consolation but this is absolutely the greatest game ever seen.

So many playoff finals have been snores since, this had everything. Many goals, penalties, and could anyone tell who was gonna win at any point throughout the game before Michael Gray stepped up?

  • it doesnt matter coz when they get relegated and all their loan players go back to playin for a real club, theyll be totally screwed

  • Shame Were Going Down To League 1 Aye Lads :(

    Bad Times

  • amazing......they should show the current charlton team, which is full of loaned in players, this video

  • Maybe we should have the veterans play. Like Derek Ufton, Fred Lucas (My grandfather)... Etc, etc.

  • Oh,this was a wonderful day.Even as a neutral fan i admired the football of Charlton and i bet loads of gay couples sitting in the Charlton end were free to celebrate and embrace as they so wished. That,is how football brings people together...

  • what a game this was, i was young but i remeber being devastated.

  • What a game.

Shows who's the 'bigger' club now tho, dun it?

    FTM!

  • Charlton are going down to league one this year. joining the most pathetic team, Leeds

  • Well wherever Charlton go from now, they've always got this game as memories. Fantastic game.

  • best game ever, even though we lost, tremendous ! FTM

  • Amazing 11 years later and Charlton are falling apart close to drop into the 3rd tier of the leagues!!

I hope Charlton dont drop down into League1 because i can see them falling down to League 2 and like a Bradford strugglying in that tier!

  • i was there supporting sunderland, i think i was 9 years old

    FTM

  • All the non cafc fans on here can all go and fuck themselves and their families and pets.Up the addicks.

  • Realy good game I wish there were more games like this :) go charlton

  • "chalrton are gonna begin life as a leauge 1 club, the profile was rising"

lol silly cunts bet this feels a million miles away now dun it!!!

  • Not really Andy. "Its better to have loved and lost than to have never loved before". Id rather support a club like Charlton than Palace who have never achieved anything of not or have managed to spend more than a handful of seasons in the limelight. At the end of the day, and which ever league were in, we'll always have this and I wouldnt swap that for being a no-mark club like CPFC.

  • Super Super Clive

    Super Super Clive

    Super Clive Mendonca

    RESPECT

  • DOWN WIT DA CHARLTON

  • 2-0 to the forest YOU REDS!!! enjoy league 1 charlton. its absoloutly ribbish.. we should know :D:D:D:D

  • Charlton VS Southampton Was well gd ! Im gonna watch the game next tuesday !

  • jedan je sasa ilic!!!!!!!!!

  • going to see charton vs southamto saturday

  • Perhaps the greatest game ever seen at Wembley. Pity there had to be a loser really.

Still, SAFC made up for the disapointment in record-breaking style in 98/99.

  • the MOST MEMEREBL GAME AT WEMBLY SO HAHA TO ALL THE OTHER TEAMS THAT PLAYED THERE APART FROM ENLGLAND CAFC!!!

  • where you there.....???? dream on....u were always second best

  • Swindon 4-3 Leicester in 1993 was better. A 3 goal comeback has never been repeated at wembley.

  • got to remember that was the last every match played at the old wembley

  • Sorry m8 I don't catch your drift. Did you mean that that was the last ever match at wembley?

  • last club game at the old wembley

  • Don't mean to be rude or antything but the Wembley was last used in 2000 not 1998. The last club game would have been the 2000 play-off final

  • Oh, do you mean that one was better, still. Yes that was a great game but I still prefer the 93 one

  • Best game ive ever seen! end of...

  • greatest game in history thanks for the memories

  • I am a charlton fan and i was there and was just too amazing to put into words. Never have I had so much emotion in a football match. This vid give me so many good memories- thank you for posting it. Leaving Wembley there was silence, it took 30 mins to walk to the car and no one could speak- pure shock and adrenaline. There will never be a game like this ever again and I am so happy I was there to witness it.
