I've read Alan Whicker's autobiography- he enjoyed the Pythons' satire on him, and sent them a letter, joking that he was going to sue them for staging the sketch. They sent him a publicity photo of all of them as "Whickers", adding, "Here's some ammunition"...
You've got to join the internet age, here, as we watch Monty Python on youtube. I had no idea who Alan Whicker was either, but of course there's a wikipedia article on him. wiki/Alan_Whicker He's just a British television journalist. I didn't get the Caribbean Island joke. Anyone?
Oh, my favorite thing about Alan Whicker is that he is Cockney slang for knickers--show me your alans. Like China means mate--china plate, mate. Alan Whicker, knickers.
I'd say the caribbean island (and the flowery description thereof) simply relates to the locales where one would find the sort of people Alan Whicker spent his career interviewing.
I also really like the clarckson version of the whicker island sketch, performed by the fast show

@Tareltonlives Whicker was a very famous BBC presenter. He was interviewed on Parkinson and said how much he loved this Python send up of him!

Where gin-and-tonics jingle in a gyroscopic jubilee of something... beginning with "J"...
God, the sheer mastery of alliteration... it's J-enius!
