  • Rap is a music genre and Hip-Hop is a culture...

  • Hip-Hop comes from the west coast like california, Rap comes from the east coast like new york, so based on the locations where people live, kind of tells you what music they are more into

  • bunch of white dudes!

  • none of them makes since

  • all yall full of shit

  • hip hop is the music rap is the lyrics.

  • So true. Long live hip-hop.

  • RAP IS AN ACTION

    HIP HOP IS A MOVEMENT..

  • The media and commercial industry fueled this difference. There is no difference in hip hop and rap. Hip hop is a culture and rap is one of the 4 creative elements of the movement known as hip hop. whatever is on the radio is pop music. Those hip hop stations like to plug that they are the best "hiphop" station but in reality what does that mean? are they bringing you news on the illest graffiti crews? the illest break shows in your area? Or turntable technique tips like scratching? naw mayne..

  • rap is the droping a rhyme/rap man its the verbal element of hip hop!

  • no not at all, slug from atmosphere is an emcee, not a rapper, same with immortal technique, k-otix, jedi mind tricks, family tree, and cunnin lynguists

  • I laugh when rap faggots say, "rap is our music & hip hop is our culture." They look so stupid when they say that because rap is a subgenre of hip hop. Hip hop is not a culture, the same shit. So fuck rap b/c everyone who listens to it becomes ignorant, narrow-minded, & loudmoudth morons. The hip hop culture is just as violent as Terrorism. Ghetto people are always at war against themselves, I say let us continue to hate rap just so it will speed up the process.

  • RAP BRINGS LIFE TO HIP HOP..IT PUTS THE CULTURE OF HIP HOP INTO WORDS..AN EXPLANATION IF U WILL...HIP HOP IS A LIVING BREATHING BEING..RAP IS SIMPLY THE ORGANS THAT KEEP IT ALIVE

  • dis nigga is SMACKED AS SHITTTT

  • Hip Hop has always been passion & consciousness... Rap "NOW" is commercial & unconscious/ruthless. Hip Hop is Rakim, Nas Rap is Snoopdog, Lil Wayne. It all has it's place in the world......No hatin here.

  • "whyamibeingheld" I admire your fire homie, but you missed the boat a little. First off these videos were taken all over the country, sometimes in the hood, sometimes in the burbs, sometimes in the city, sometimes in the middle of nowhere. For the most part, the people in these videos are not friends of ours. They are people we approached at random and asked a few basic questions. They went off.

  • They were the ones leading the interviews, so if you got a problem you should take it up with the whole damn country, which, incidentally is what we were trying to do with these videos.

  • I think it's hilarious how cats on YouTube will talk shit ad nauseum just cause they are hiding behind a computer. Homie, I'm not gonna get all up on my soap box here, but let me quickly say, don't assume to know thing one about me or my partners who made this.

We believed in the power of Hip-hop, having been through the country and seen it first hand. Our purpose of making this video was not trying to give you a "right answer".

  • The purpose was to give a broad cross section of people an opportunity to answer some questions about an art form that we all care deeply about. Maybe you could, "gasp!", LEARN SOMETHING from what other people in this country, that we all share, have to say. Stop trying to be "Johnny Know it all, shut yo' damn mouth and listen for a minute.

  • Funny thing is. Some of the cats on these videos, you know, the ones you are talking shit about, are MC's that we maybe kicked rhymes with or saw perform at shows while we were on tour and this may come as a surprise to you but some of these "white boys" were some of the nastiest MC's I have ever seen bless a mic. In fact, fuck just the "White boys", the black folks, brown folks, asians, fucking people with purple polka dots, they all have the potential to fucking shock a mic.

  • See the thing I learned while travelling the country was that...you ready for this?

Hip-hop is not an art form that has a color. It never did.

  • It's not a black art form like Jazz or Blues is cause, and you will learn this if you do your homework and talk to some people who were around when this thing was starting in the '70's, IT IS AN ART FORM OF THE DISENFRANCHISED. Look that word up if you don't understand it.

  • This art form is for anybody, who ever had to struggle, who ever had to stand on line at a food bank or a soup kitchen, who ever had to sell their belongings just to eat another day, who ever stayed up all night listening to "Paid in Full", who ever had a sugar sandwich, it's for whoever's had a pops who beat them, whoever has had a friend die in their arms, whoever has had to work 60 hours a week to feed his family, whoever, no matter what color.

  • It's for people who have a story to tell, and the best MC's have ever met I have not judeged by the color of their skin or even by their financial background, I have judged them by their skills, and by how much truth they speak.

  • That's what we were looking for...Truth. Not who can sound the hardest of the most clever, truth. Maybe next time you can open your eyes a little wider and see that...

Now, I'll see you around 3:30...cause I just took your ass to school. And that's the tripple truth Ruth.

  • "whyamibeingheld" I admire your fire homie, but you missed the boat a little. • hip hop is lyricism hip hop is djing hip hop is graffiti breakdancing etc. rap is bullshit on wax its worthless hip hop is not something you listen to its something you live rap is total commercialism all the good hip hop artist dont get radio play but dumb motherfuckers like for instance soulja boy is on the radio all fucking day

  • and to officially comment on this video these people cannot tell me the difference between rap and hip hop because they dont know what hip hop is they just some white boys from the suburbs who listened to some 50 cent songs and suddenly think they know about hip hop 50 cent has nothing to do with hip hop if you ask me but anyway these dudes are uneducated on the matter fucking dumbasses

  • Isnt R&B kinda a part of Hip hop or is it more like soul?

  • r&b and hip-hop have nothing to do with each other i hate when people label r&b artist rappers

  • Yeah I was just asking because its like alot of R&B singers work with Hip hop artists.

  • yea i know what you mean some r&b artists can be labeled as both such as r.kelly and t-pain

  • Yeah and Akon to I mean to me Rap and Hip hop are pretty much the same thing.

  • i disagree rap is the commercial adaptation of hip hop rap is a genre of music hip hop is a culture hip hop is graffiti breakdancing rap is hip hops ugly cousin for example kanye west and common are hip hop soulja boy is rap

  • Yeah and also Turntablism is also a part of Hip hop to but they kinda made it into its own Genre

  • i agree

  • go see the vid by eboyd32

  • It's simple. Hip hop has 4 elements. Mc'ing, Dj'ing, Breakdancing and graffiti. Some include style of dress. If an artist isn't involved in those elements, he is simply a rapper. Hip hop vocalist are "Emcees". Rap vocalist are "rappers". This is coming from the people who actually created/molded hip hop in the beginning. The majority of the people on this video had no idea what they were talking about.

  • you dont have to be involved in more than one element. pete rock was the dj/producer, c.l. smooth was the mc/rapper. if im following your logic than CL smooth is JUST a rapper not a "hiphop vocalist"

  • by saying hiphop vocalist u proved u have no knowledge of hip hop, emcee bro emcee

  • are u talking to me jackoff? read the whole thing before you comment. notice the quotation marks? huh? I was quoting someone else who said it. do you understand me?

  • well he didnt say hiphop vocalist I dunno why I said that I thought that is what he said. I would never say hiphop vocalist.

  • i replied of your statement not on that long ass comment, that one was very clear about what u had to say, and i was very clear about what i had to say, and by the ways i wasnt being insulting, u were, now that youve made the mistake go shoke on a barrel

  • your so right! thank you!

  • this is a great video , to show the ignorence and stupidity of americans .. they havent a clue what they are shittin on about , but still they talk as if they do .. hip hop is the music genre , rap is the verb in whice lyrics are sung , period ....

  • hip hop is not a music genre dumb ass it is a culture rap is a genre of music youre the one that doesnt know what you are talking about rap is the verb in which lyrics are sung no rap is the commercialization of mc'ing or dj'ing you dont know what you are talking about

  • These crackers don't have a fucking clue! they talking about the tv shit LOL click my link to see the real definition between hiphop & rap!!!

  • fag

  • Thanks. We try hard to develop an understanding of the social importance of our music and the music of others. Sharing your voice, and listening to what's behind the rhymes is solid way to survive the times.

    fag.

  • Yea, there is a DEFINITE difference, hip-hop was first and then offsprung itself (genre-bending) Do u live or are u from Oregon? By the way I'm the person who asked if u listened to the experimental tracks on myspace.

  • i live in OR haha and bte bro this vid is great

  • the dude with the dreads put it best! he's the only one one who knows the real differance on this vid but it's cool that yall even cared enough to ask people my bad for going so hard last comment i'm just sick of the rap bullshit.

  • No one denies there's plenty of rap bullshit, but we captured this content while travelling from Oregon to Brooklyn playing clubs every stop on the way. To us, that means more - to meet the crowds and feel the response & vibes - than to ever be on tv. No one can say they're "Hip-Hop" or "about hip-hop" if they're not willing to meet the people that are listening to them.

  • Don't forget to hit on our name (subtwink) and check out some of our performances. Whether we're hip-hop or not, you can give us a listen and decide for yourself whether or not you like it. That's all that matter, really.
