The worst shipping disaster at sea was the RMS Titanic which sank on April 15th, 1912 after striking a iceberg with the loss of over 1500 people. That sinking help create the standard for enough room in the lifeboats for all aboard. The engineer crew of the Titanic was brave and stayed at their posts till the ship sank and i dont believe any survived.
