Funny how this demo looks completely opposite of what was shown at E3 2009. The girl walked up to the screen and had a full conversation with Milo and ever interacted with him just like she was talking to a real human.

In this demo you just follow Milo around and give him chores to do.

so the voice trick is you can say anything to the screen and milo will respond with a bunch of preset dialogs.....i knew this was bollox, bark at the screen and point at objects

This game...it's got so much great technology. Just to experience the technology, a character who understands my presence, who learns from what I do along with everyone else. It may be relying on a trick, but this is one of the most brilliant works of computer engineering that I've seen, to put all these disparate pieces together like this.

In the claire demo he responded specifically to what she said. In this one, he doesn't seem to know what's being said to him. He only recognizes tone. Would be interesting to see what happens if a robot or someone speaking in monotone speaks to him.

@ZombiFish It was never cancelled, and it was never going to be a game. Its a demonstration of Artificial Intelligence research. Bits and pieces of Milo and Kate will slowly start to filter into consumer products the world over in the coming decades.

@JustSuds When he was first shown with ckaire, Pete said it was going to be a real game with an ending. Not a tech demo. Later he said he had trouble convincing Microsoft that it would work, and they canceled it. But why would MS have so little faith after that very impressive Claire demo showed what he could do? MS could only have known it wasn't real tech if they still had doubts after that.

This game still looks intriguing to me. I could clearly see what Molyneux meant about the trick involved with Milo talking to you. The slightly distant, brattish nature of Milo means that they can get away with you saying something and Milo always continuing with what he is talking about regardless.

I know this is really petty but they need to change the chunky font that the on-screen words are written in; the words look tacky and undermine the otherwise great visuals.

It's not cancelled exactly; from what I understand Molyneux is just having trouble convincing EA/Microsoft that this is a game that would actually work. It's not surprising really, as this looks like something that could be very hit-and-miss if it isn't handled or presented properly.

Okay, it looks as though it's not going to be that great. He'll always have dialogue that's pre programmed. You have to say things that the voice wants you to say. You can't just talk to milo about just anything at all. What if I want to ask Milo about the killer on the loose or the alien outside his bedroom window he didn't actualy mention to me just to see what he says? This game's not living up to my expectations of a conversation tool.
