  • I have experience with djing and I have never bought a synth and im wondering is this thing realy worth 800 because that is big cash for me but im willing to pay for this thing , im in love with it

  • NEVER WORTH 799 !!!!!!

  • is it dificullt for a beginner to use it?

  • how much does it cost

  • Comment removed

  • Perfect for creating nice audio for your game project... Too expensive tho

  • this little thing looks like a toy,

a toy that cost 800 USD xD

  • Where can I get Teenage Engineering OP-1 Rally I Want that please HELP me I want that

  • where do i go to buy one

  • I wish I had 800+ dollars to get one.

  • I WANT THAT WEIRD THING!!! :D

  • Midi / Tempo Sync ?

  • this seems like it's worth the money if you can afford it, but that's the thing...if you can afford it. seems like if they knocked about 100 bucks off of it, it'd be close to a reasonable price. but there might be deals out there. some how i got my "Korg nano kontrol" half off because a knob was missing, so you never know.

  • how does it store your samples, hard to find on that screen? how many hours of mic recording can you do? Can you swap disk space?

  • @Amaribrahi stored in the on board memory, 12secs of sampling 4x6mins of track time, 2x6 stereo album recordings. Simply drag them on to your computer when in USB disc mode

  • I hope, that its sequel will be called OB-1.

  • Great! Finaly you are making a review on this synth :) I would like to see how the integration with some daw programs is going on, is it capable for making music, or is just a toy? That Audio output looks very cheap to me, and 800 eu for this kind of toy is too much i think. So what are we buying a toy or a synth? :)

  • Hi Nick, great that you organised yourself this little but expensive toy!

how is it organised for live use, i.e. how many sets/ songs can you save (prepare in advance), kind of question of sampling time

how is the sound quality on the small jack-out?

does the Synths really sound that cheesy?

how much punch have the drums?

can you connect any midi-controlling gear (for example a Behringer BCR 2000)?

how would this thing fit into a Rockband enviroment (for Synth enhancement)?

  • Damn man i so want one already.

  • oh and how is it powered? i hope not batterys?

  • @hongdekong yep, built in rechargable, but can be opwoered via micro USB batt life 16+hrs

  • how would you use this? studio or live or mot at all?

  • this thing is too sick

  • It's Mike Shinoda's new toy ;)!

  • The MIDI on this thing is still quite a mystery to me ... would to have you spell it all out for us.

played with a friends the other day... after about 20 mins I was totally comfortable getting around on the interface...

  • @djugel MIDI is accessed via USB plug that into a host DAW and you have a basic MIDI controller via its keys and knobs, or a way to send MIDI to it from the sequencer or keyboard - velicity sensitive on MIDI input

  • @sonicstate

    What about tempo sync?

  • Comment removed

  • How do you hook it up to a bigger keybed i.e. your M-Audio Axiom???

  • I've got a Doepfer Dark Energy, a Koassilator Pro and a KP3. Is it so to say compatible with thoose devices or is it better as stand alone (synth, drums, fx from op-1)?

  • I'd be highly curious to see the structure of the synth engine(s?) for those various visually depicted synth, and what parameters are being controlled by the knobs.

  • Hey Nick-

How do the keys feel? In other videos it seems like a keyboard sort of feel.

Also, can we load it with more synth sounds? Supposedly it just shows up as a USB drive on a computer so i cant see it being too difficult.

    Thanks!

  • @SamuraiRacer64 keys not really keyboard keys, they are just switches. yes you can add your own samples to the instrument for drum kits of single samples - I guess you can add your own tracks too for playback

  • I didn't know what I was about to watch but the design on this thing is impressive.

  • Gah, cant decide what to ask, this thing is just too packed with strange and seemingly awesome stuff. i guess im mostly curious about how well this thing stands on its own. And how quickly does it "grow" with added gear - if any?

  • i have been waiting for this for a looong time

  • Make the Swedish House Mafia - One synth!!!!

  • @skiing54 That wasn't made with the OP-1. The synth only featured in the video clip. That One thing was done with EXS 24 and a lot of manual midi programming ;-)

  • @Motokonl That was the OP-1

  • @skiing54 Like I said is was used as a prop in the video and not used to make the actual song. Both SHM and TE have stated this in interview, if you watch the Future Music special or SHM's Take One, they show how they did the programming all manually with EXS in Logic..

  • Whats the Battery situtation? How long can it run? also the biggest question in my mine is this... "Is it worth the price" Id like a grade scale on that question.

  • oops i mean "tombola" sequencer

  • i think there is an accelerometer in it, try shaking/tilting it to change some MIDI CC?

i'm also really interested in how that tape record function works, not so much on the device but i mean the electronics/programing of how they did that

it's amazing what they can do with a 400mhz processor

the arpeggiator seemed a little odd, maybe you should fool around with that too

  • Very cool!

     :)

  • can you really re-create SHM-One on it? LOL :)

  • I got a mc-307 besides the sampling and a few more sythn engines would their be a good reason for me to get this when with my 307 i have 8 instrument tracks vs 4 with the op-1? it seem like to me that i could do more with my mc-307, this seem a lot like the 307 but with only 4 instruments i think i would feel trapped.

  • Been waiting for this! Looking forward to the full review.

  • In the full review I would like to see how in-depth the synthesis engines are, and what built-in effects it has.

  • I tried one the other day. Seems like a bit of a hipster toy. Its got a lot of novelty value and it was fun to mess around with but I reckon it would end up gathering dust pretty quickly.

  • any midi input/output? if no, does it have a method of being controlled with a midi keyboard? and if you can use a midi keyboard, would it be velocity sensitive?

  • When you were holding it up at the end of the video, I noticed there were LEDs lighting up- indicating you can record via a microphone? If so, how good is the microphone?

  • can i send midi via usb to it ?

  • Does it have any filth for some Dub dub dubsteppin?

  • Nick - another couple of questions... if it has audio in, is that available 'sound card style' through the USB, or is USB just for midi.

Do you still have your iPad camera connection gizmo? It would be fascinating to see if you could sequence the OP-1 from an iPad sequencer. Just think what an awesome portable rig that would be!

  • @albedo0point39 Nope just MIDI. I will see if i can dig it out and try the ipad thing

  • @sonicstate how much is it?

  • I want to know more of the radio reciver in the machine. and how much sampling is capable please.

  • I want to know more of the radio reciver in the machine. and how much sampling is capable please.

  • What is the FM-band support? Does it transmit audio over FM to your stereo, or can it capture/record FM?

  • @albedo0point39 its an FM receiver - can be used to sample, modulate or just listen

  • Must be velocity sensitive via a midi keyboard? Also, what is it comparable to sound wise?

  • @pyungiedude yes, just tested this it does respond to velocity over MIDI

  • I have a question,

no reference to filters on the OP-1 site, do non of the synth engines really have any kind of filter?

  • @weaponEX not as far as I can tell, but the Punch effect is a filter, albeit an oddly designed one.

  • How easy is it to sync up with software like ableton or reason, and can you use software to route a midi controller so you can play it with a standard keyboard? If controlled through software do you have a wider range of notes or just the range that is on the built in keyboard?

  • Is it worth the hype and cash?

  • Is it BUS powered or does it take batteries?

    Does it come with software?

    Any drums?

    Reverb?

  • @ortiza2007 it has an internal battery that can last up to 16hrs, charges over the USB connection.

  • is it possible to somehow control it with another synth via midi?

  • @backdoorslam yes there is MIDI in and out over USB

  • my question: Why is it so damn sexy?

  • Is it a control surface as well?
