IMO Hines is one of the greatest greatest. Hyman doesn't get real close to what Hines could do, because he was so unpredictable in his playing.

anybody know any practice techniques i can use to learn how to make my left hand stronger? i cant seem to play chords with my left yet.

For ragtime stride you could practice just the left hand on an easy Scott Joplin song. Or just play as much music as you can with LH

Actually, Dick Hyman is one great player, a superb writer (several Woody Allen movies)and conducts fantastic workshops. Milt Hinton (do you know who he is?)was Dick's bass player in the late 70's. To call him "shit" only reflects how little you know about music or anything else.

whoa! hold on, don't you what "the shit" means? if not, it means, in your words, "one great player!" If you had read the entire post, you would have figured that out. don't think I haven't seen "sweet and lowdown," and loved the music in it, just to name one. I know his discography well. Now, I don't know much, but I do know a little something about jazz. I daresay, even if you think otherwise, that we are in agreement as to the genius of Dick Hyman!!!
