HI,Mr stefan I like your still to play blues ,and is interesting, but plz can you be more slowly, because i can't understand most of notes if is possible
@bluesyblues87 Of course this is a shortcut to the blues. Blues guitar will never be anything more than a hobby for the vast majority of Guitar players, and the G-man is a great teacher for facilitating that hobby. The tab is just a rough guide; we know we don't have to play every note as he sets it down, that's why he encourages us add our own ideas in the video. Lighten up.
@JakeBirkett seriously this video has is a fucking wealth of lickage! This video shouldn't have a thumbs down option this guy is clearly very accomplished
@bluesyblues87 Profiting from what? teaching? gee, how many teachers do that? destroying the blues? really? If it were not for Stefan I wouldn't have learned as much as I have. He's an exceptional player and I've always looked up to him.
Mr. Grossman's timing is always impeccable. You can see how effortless he approaches a piece here, whether he is playing a simple blues lick or a complicated rag. The definition, the attack, and the timing in general, are always to be admired when you here him on here playing something. Thanks for posting this. I am always more intrested in the WAY he plays rather than the notes he plays. That is what seperates him from most people..
@dirtydonki simple????? It can be simple, like anything else. Try looking for Jody Worrell or Warren Haynes an reconsider your words. xD However, All of us are blues lovers, so keep on listening mate! ;)
@dirtydonki "i started to play the blues because i was thinking that it was easy, in the end was the hardest thing i have ever done in my life" Eric Clapton
Actually, Eric once said to me at a party in Clapham Junction in the late 70's that I was one of the most promising blues players he'd heard for a long time and YES we were all high on something at the time. :)
Stefan is one of the best teachers in the world and we should all buy his DVD. American society should award this man a medal for his services to music, he is worthy of a knighthood. Thank you Stefan, Dan (from London - UK)
I bet Stefan could teach the Sun to shine brighter. this is pure ecstasy, he is not even playing with a band and i could listen to this all day every day. Even the teaching part where he was taking breaks and talking was better than i have ever played, and likely ever will play. Thank you Stefan.
Stefan's an old wheel (b.1945) - he's been round and round.
I bought "Aunt Molly's Murray Farm" in 1968/9 and I might have seen him at Les Cousins or similar a year or two before that, when he was apparently hanging out with Clapton, Jansch, Renbourn, Graham, McTell etc.
He's a dazzling guitarist who obviously likes playing and enjoys teaching - pretty good at both, eh?
read up on Mr. Grossman. You'll find he knew these blues men up close and personal. He's not a "follower" he's a student taught by the real blues masters, Mississippi John Hurt, Son House, ant the list goes on.... and on..... many are gone now.....
This may be simple to some but from a master taught by masters I'll call it masterful. This was meant to teach, not be a showcase of ones talent. Mr. Grossman You bring this to life.
this is one of the best lessons on youtube if you make you self learn half of what he's doing here you can really start to feel this. i just played this for like three hours lol it doesnt want to stop. this is jaming folks! great playing i would like to here this guy open up and jam it out. good stuff thanks for the post

You have a rare gift in being able to teach as clearly and creatively as you play. Thank you so much for sharing it with all of us, and freely at that!

@hubba1de I hate to be the one to let you in on this little secret, but, the world is not your personal servant. Mr. Grossman is a musician, but he is also a businessman. Man that has got to be the music set for me. My fingers are raw after the first time I heard you. I'm throwing my own e flow with you. YOu made me play better. I subscribed. Keep it going. thanks.
@georgio2 Well, then I guess I'll give up. There was plenty of info on the left hand in terms of chords and slides-- but no real useful instruction with respect to the right: the picking. I simply cannot find good instruction anywhere on how to develop proper technique for the picking.
I remember seeing Stefan Grossman perform at the Great Americn Music Hall in San Fran about twenty five years ago, he was great then and grear now, Pick ON SG!
I remember seeing Stefan Grossman perform at the Great Americn Music Hall in San Fran about twenty five years ago, he was great then and grear now, Pick ON SG!
The How To Play the Blues series (1-3) is a classic example of talented play meeting with the gift of teaching. It should be in every guitarist's library.
I notice you use your fingertips, no long nails. Interesting. Someone told me to grow my nails. I think using your fingertips demands a different kind of control.

saprando 1 week ago
@saprando I agree but only if one is gullible enough to actually believe the hype. :)
The so called "feel" comes from experieince and mastery. Some progress much more quickly than others.
Comments like those of Jimi's do great things for adding mystery to the craft but are primarily used to sell the music.
Play the music & feel your partner.
Practise, practise, practise.

If you don't learn off this guy then give up! The clearest lesson I've seen yet and it makes something which sounds so good look so easy.
Now for the next lesson!!

@georgio2 Well, then I guess I'll give up. There was plenty of info on the left hand in terms of chords and slides-- but no real useful instruction with respect to the right: the picking. I simply cannot find good instruction anywhere on how to develop proper technique for the picking.

Love the way Stefan plays so well, and yet takes the time to slow it down and teach someone learning how to play these blues.

The How To Play the Blues series (1-3) is a classic example of talented play meeting with the gift of teaching. It should be in every guitarist's library.

I notice you use your fingertips, no long nails. Interesting. Someone told me to grow my nails. I think using your fingertips demands a different kind of control.
Lovely playing.
