There are some things humans are not supposed to see. And insh´Allah never will be able to. What good have we done to animals and other things that we can see? I think we should focus on saving the beautiful nature we were blessed with instead of destroying it and putting the animals into zoo´s for our silly entertainment.
I salute the ppl of Iceland for showing so much respect as to actually take it into account when building and stuff.
You're landscape is like a cold version of my home state's :) We have those same kinds of rocks in Southern California. We don't have so many legends about them though. The other week I saw a circle of stones that were aligned near perfectly in a circle by nature and about 10 cow grazing strictly inside the tiny circle by choice.
i live on the street with the stone called 102, i used to go to school there. It's forbidden to build there, and it's forbidden by law to destroy or tamper any area of the huldufólk.
And I like the myth about Huldufólk/hidden people. I would say most icelanders respect it and as prakkari just said.. its not like they/us/it is bothering anyone with it.
This is all a load of rubbish. I am an Icelander. The reason foor this is to try and give our barren and uninviting landscape some meaning. But if you believe in God and miracles I suppose you could as well believe in this. No harm done if you do not go to war over it and kill other humans for your conviction.
