  • We can never have peace and paradies till we get rid of the God damned war makers, the evil hearts that make war! Thank God He is soon to deliver the Earth from "them that destoy the Earth" with all their wars and waste and wanton destruction and pollution! Only then shall the men of peace and the God and prince of peace rule and reign. "For there shall be nothing that shall either hurt or destroy or pollute in all My Holy Kingdom Isaiah 11:9. It will be paradies regained. Trust Him!

  • And what happened to this beautiful PARADISE that once, not too long ago, existed on our earth and now it doesn't exist any more? The Industrial Revolution destroyed it, like it destroyed all other paradises on earth the same, by turning them into sweat factories with wage workers and managers and CEOs. oh what a great "evolution" of human society. from free & happy people in paradise, we're now zobbies working in industries routinely in "casual friday" clothes. oh how depressing modern life is.

  • ........!...........

  • 1:40 delicious pineapples

  • U8HYIHKHKIKJ

  • Ok now how did i get here?

  • Great music ! Love that Hawaiian guitar sound !

  • Wow! If we buy the DVD, can we get the movie with the appropriate frame rate?

  • @franzjp75 . This was made from a sound-on-film print. If you attempted to adjust

the speed, the sound would be slowed down. This film was independently made

and there is practically no information available about it. It was released in 1934

well past the silent era, but may have been shot earlier.

  • take what you can and move to the tropics. trust me...

  • Mixed scenes of Hawai'i & Samoa put in one to tell a story. Bullshit!!

  • this is samoa. with white people acting as the main characters

  • Wonderful paradise where life expectancy was about 35 if you didn't die sooner from war sickness or infanticide.Wild strawberries, goosberries & no work, what a load of bullshit,no wonder the average Yank is as dumb as dogshit when fed this sort of crap.Life in the Pacific Islands as a hunter/gatherer was a bloody hard slog, working your arse off just to stay alive from dawn till dusk. It's only a paradise when you have all you need, at hand.I've lived there with the locals & know it's not idilic.

  • maybe they had plants that could heal. Sure, if someone had appendicitis they couldn't just call an ambulance, they had to suffer, Pros and cons,

  • yeah rite. Get old and die of malnutrition and boredom. They have cyclones in the season, Could get washed away and drown. Get up the coconut trees and fall. A lot of things can happen in life.

  • lol at the white actorz in this.

  • 1:04 Why is that lady hitting the other lady?

  • I'm in the boring part of youtube again. Thumbs up if you're watching this in 2011. I'm just here cause the thumbnail showed titties.

  • If harvesting crops is not work, then what is it? The commentary on this video is so BBC classic and condescending in its tone.

  • No one need work!

(Cut to clip of people working)

    It's a paradise!

  • @Phenom713 It's not even authentic. These are white people parading as Islanders.

  • Once the devil came, life on the island never was the same.

  • @TheFlutevisions

Well it was nicer before the native arrived, which was nicer than before Cook arrived, which was nicer than now.

So which devil are you referring too? The ones who killed their fellow man, the ones who killed their fellow man or the ones who killed their fellow man?

  • caption should read---Scientists Discover Entire Retard Villiage

  • Forget hybrid cars, this is true way to "live green". A pity that as we become more "developed" we have forgotten how to live in simple peace and harmony with nature.

  • wtf?

  • the redneck thing is ignorence and intollerence for southern eastern folk it is the N word like they call me a hippie the n word for my people in 1976 this country conscripted me to kill the yellow man for a lake of oil in asia . this young marine bolted in my platoon and was shot for desertion . • Love and peace make our world beautiful.

  • this is the way it was until the us government destroyed paradise they just couldn't leave anyone live . As a white american I only have tears for what was done to these people and native americans> Bekini atol poisoned for melinia gurkirpal singh

  • @longbeard1407

I believe the term that people use to describe someone wanting to live like this is redneck. And I don't think they mean that in an endearing way.

Come of if anyone tried to live like this right now the dozens of alphabet agencies would descend on them for child endangerment, truant officers, the EPA, fishing without a license and so forth,

  • @longbeard1407 i do agree.. since west couldn't just leave us (East) alone.. greets from Indonesia

  • @longbeard1407, I know the U.S. overthtrew the Hawaian Monarchy and turned it into the farthest Pacific outpost of the American Empire for worse, just like Panama Illegally stolen from Colombia). If the rule of law was to hav been considered back then, neither Obama or McCane should have allowed to be elected to the U.S Congress or run for President.

  • @longbeard1407 Survival of the fittest.

  • Stupid rich people! Well enjoy peace while you still can hahaha

  • some of the dances and houses are Samoan and not Hawai'ian...

  • @plopkiuj4 Et même tahitiens !

  • @plopkiuj4 every thing in this video is hawaiian from the imu pit to the ali'i paloa the only thing not hawaiian are those haoles and the 1 samoan siva at the end, but pretty much everything is hawaiian in this vid except for a few fake hulas. trust my words cuz im not only a native hawaiian but my mom is also samoan and i know my hawaiian meles from my samoan sivas.

  • @KaNaKa5wuno i agree, it is the hand of empire! and in the last 500 years its mainly been the western european empire, but all empires behave this way! until mankind finds another way to run the world these horrors will continue until we destroy ourselves or wake up!

  • @487shawn And western Europe, of course, was invaded and colonised by people from the east and south years before - same as it ever was.

  • sounds like a travelogue back from paradise, or the Graden of Eden.

  • ...in 1930's USA only African babes could get away with showin' any boobies- The 'reason's were extremely racist and heavily western religious based... • jap destroyed this peace

  • Los gilipollas americanos, confundiendo Hawai con Filipinas. Se podrían meter el ukelele en el culo, esos gringos ignorantes de ayer y de hoy.

  • Great patriarchal type film of "natives". Good for the view of the land and people from last century but more revealing of the strange American race attitudes of the day.

  • shit they had more clothes that time than now how tame

  • i like how the chicks at the beginning don't wear shirts while they're picking pineapples but all the other chicks in the video do

  • Excellent video.

  • stop the video at 6:34...and you will see a sky scrapper and signs of modernity in an ancient movie.

  • Thank youi. The closed I too will ever get to a time machine. Was a period when essential science was increasing, never-the-less, the world was still a wonder.

  • great footage, especially liked the underwater octopus hunter.

it's like the old hollywood westerns and such where there were, lol, white people always playing the lead role of native americans, or mexicans, or black people, or in this case samoans. especially liked the odd mix of country music with hawaiian music.

great stuff on several different levels. thanks for putting this up.

  • @tomitstube

    Yeah i noticed that too.

  • looks like Tutuila... American Samoa.

  • ***** really one interesting and beautiful film! Because of the certain shape of the mountains, ridges and landscape some scenes were filmed at Tutuila/American Samoa, I also recognize the rock at Fatumafuti. Since the 1860'ies the native people of Samoa have known the unique culture of the Hawai'ian people, mainly because of a contract between the kings and chiefs from both archipelagos against the influence of the Americans, British and Germans on their islands and some contacts ...

  • The vulcano scenes were filmed elsewhere, maybe on Hawai'i. The Hawai'ian village is probably fake, because the islanders won't build their houses under the coconut trees.

  • they are malayan

  • Once you build a hut to live in, can it be taken from you via "property taxes"? Would that not seem odd? In a true community, no one would be kicked out just because they were poor, but that is our "modern" way.

That Beethoven music seems out of place, but it was the style of the day when this film was made.

  • I feel like this is a bad representation of hula lol

  • Cannibals of the South Seas, 1920s yt it

  • Delicious pineapples indeed.

  • well the hell those 2 girls and that chief guy that came in the canoe - ?? they not samoans.. lol.. is this another trickery by the westerners again.. lol

  • I never knew this existed. I hope they're showing this in Hawaii's film school.

  • The Ava ceremony is a Samoan tradition not hawaiian. This is old samoan footage.

  • @343DGF The hawaiians did drink ava and had their own ceremonies just like samoa, fiji, tonga and others. The last few dances though did look samoan...

  • This owes more to Italian opera than anything Pacifican. Its just cut and paste of some locals combined with some cheesily staged scenes. Lookit those leading ladies, chosen for how much they look like European ideals of beauty.

A steaming pile of ham presented as a depiction of local legend.

  • Your are right. It seems to be a marketing tool aimed at young European women to imagine themselves an eternal Eve in this Pacific garden of Eden ! Shameless editing of the European women replacing the obviously more rounded and ethnic island women.

  • i'm hawaiian and i say that it wasn't the white people, it was the people who were within the government and politics of the united states, but that was 200 years ago which should be set aside. i'm glad we're within the united states but sad that our kingdom is no more.

  • @Kilaulani it was a tragedy the way the U.S. just "absorbed" the Hawaii islands without ever asking the Hawaiian people their permission.

  • @Kilaulani excuse me, what makes you real glad that you are in the usa, your opinion will be the opinion of other hawaien.

  • @Kilaulani yea rite you can't have it both ways, i d be rotten sour if a bunch of murderers and robbers came and took my country away, no matter how long ago it happened,

  • if the hawaiians are so primitive, what business did the whites have there?

  • do we need a fish, or crab, or lobster? do we need some seaweed? no problem mum, be right back with a full basket , with what mother nature provides for us. Do we need transport? no, we have our legs, someone in trouble? no problem, there is a big family looking after you, just compare that to our modern society.

  • @lunafringe10 Advanced civilizations "need" more structure or some form of government and laws to keep things in order. Sure there's plenty of food and room now but what happens when the population rises and the extra room becomes housing, and then the banana trees become housing... more people, less food, so on. But i wish it could happen and i think about it every day...

  • @babaG819 advanced to the big abyss. Population explosions must be checked, thats a lot easier

then figuring out how to house and feed everybody, Quality of life is better if there aren't as many people,

ONly China got serious on it, elsewhere population growth continued unchecked.

  • @lunafringe10

Slip on some rocks, cut your leg and get an infection. You die!

  • @lunafringe10 - I think you're kind of idealising stuff there - 'serious disease? oops, no medicine' to name one thing.

  • @Fan666Maiden Even in our society you can die of many things and causes,

    traffic for instance,

  • @lunafringe10 - of course you can, but life expectancy does tend to be quite a bit higher doesn't it? Of course, that's not all that counts and I know that too, but it's far from being a detail.

  • why do i think that hawaiians in that time is not civilized

  • can people stop dissing white people??!! it was our ancestors who were idiots, not us!!!

  • That ain't our fault yo!!

  • There should be another series of videos by the Travel Film Archive titled "After the Man"

    ROFL

  • Thanks for posting this video with its nice old hawaiian sound recordings and views of pacific islands before fastfood and chainsaws. Sure it has cultural problems but we are watching a historical perspective. So, for some negative commentors, stop ya belly-achin'

  • the narrator sounds strangely like vincent price

  • Wow, white folk trying to be part of ancient culture, Its rubbish!!! I guess when you have nothing original, you always have to imitate or steal from some one or claim you started it!!!!!!!!!!1

  • youre funny haha so it was also funny when we whipped your great great grandparents for running away!haha good times

  • rochillz- Let me guess, you fled your homeland of Africa because your 'neighbors' were theifs & your governments were corrupt. So you came to the safety of a white country like the USA? HAHA fool

  • Most of these shots are definitely from Samoa both formerly Western and American. I did enjoy the pacific island lore though.

  • @rwg1961 I agree. The tapa and the kava bowl in some of the shots were definitely Samoan but I too enjoyed the whole Polynesian vibe either way.

  • Well, this is certainly an odd movie.

Most of it was shot in Hawaii, and the story is vaguely based on actual Hawaiian lore. But there's footage from elsewhere in Polynesia as well.

The concept of the young woman being sacrificed to the volcano comes from a Broadway play of 1912 called "The Bird of Paradise". This was, itself, made into a movie in 1932 and again in 1951. In this case, a major difference is that the young woman is already dead - again, as I say, this is an odd movie.

  • The frist part of this footage is Samoa (Polynesia)

  • The last dance is Samoan too

  • Yes the last part ot the footage is samoa and that is smoan dance call Taualuga but not a hula dance. Hula is a Hawaiian dance.

  • well that Hollywood version, Hula isn't really dance that way. Check out todays hula Dancers.

  • yeah, suppose to be hula kahiko, not awana, even da old guy was hitting the ipu heke, but there were a steel guitar and ukulele.
