But to say that the US is backwards compared to Israel (of all places frankly) and Europe is really missing the point (and VERY elitist). First, it is a LOT harder to make change in a country of 400 million (US) versus 5.5 million (Israel). And I guarantee you that Israel would not have many of its rights were it not for the billions of dollars our "backwards' country gives you.

If you've ever been through a bankruptcy proceeding in the business world as a creditor, everyone owed is listed out. The report that i provided denotes when medical bills are the primary reason for the bankruptcy.
$50 billion in bad debt is incurred every year at hospitals, and another $50-$75 billion is incurred elsewhere. That equals out to about $3k additional costs passed on per family of 4. Instead of $8k per year, I could be spending $5k if others were forced to obtain insurance or be denied care.
You can say what you want about Shea-Porter, but she is representing her districts majority opinion and doing her job. If you don't like it, vote against her in 2010.

My sister-in-law said her hospital eats close to 20% bad debt annually because they are legally forced to provide care to people without insurance. To offset, they raise prices and buiild in the bad debt.

But to say that the US is backwards compared to Israel (of all places frankly) and Europe is really missing the point (and VERY elitist). First, it is a LOT harder to make change in a country of 400 million (US) versus 5.5 million (Israel). And I guarantee you that Israel would not have many of its rights were it not for the billions of dollars our "backwards' country gives you.

If you've ever been through a bankruptcy proceeding in the business world as a creditor, everyone owed is listed out. $50 billion in bad debt is incurred every year at hospitals, and another $50-$75 billion is incurred elsewhere. That equals out to about $3k additional costs passed on per family of 4. Instead of $8k per year, I could be spending $5k if others were forced to obtain insurance or be denied care.
You can say what you want about Shea-Porter, but she is representing her districts majority opinion and doing her job. If you don't like it, vote against her in 2010.

The insurance companies account for zero, everyone else takes it up the ass and it is passed onto us. Approximately 160M people have private insurance, we are the only ones that foot the bill. That is $780 per person covered.
I stated before, I don't approve of public option. Lets focus on real issues, not the horseshit spewed by Fox News and the right-wing haters like the NH GOP.

They have the mandatory insurance in Mass, and they still haven't covered everybody, insurance rates are climbing, and physician availability is decreasing. It shouldn't matter that it costs $200,000 or more to educate and train them. The only way to ensure that the profession attracts the best and brightest is to make sure that after they spend a decade studying medicine and working in hospitals around the clock, they will be paid the same salary as a Taco Bell Assistant Manager. I spent $150,000 to get my graduate degree asshole and nobody guaranteed me to be a millionaire when I got out. I had to work my way up and deliver results to earn my money.
A doctor gets out of school, and no matter how well they performed, they are instant millionaires. Shouldn't there be some standard that requires them to be good at their practice before the get the gold?

If what you say is true--that all doctors are guaranteed to become millionaires and that no standards whatsoever are applied to their performance--then why aren't you a doctor? under your logic, then everyone should be a doctor and we all become millionaires. Our health care system ranks 37th in the world, why are they getting paid on the top 1% tier? Shouldn't our doctor's be paid 37th highest? Every sector of health care needs to tighten their belts, including the richest of the group...the doctors. If you want to continue allowing these doctor's to make millions, no change will occur.

Rub a lamp, genius. 37th in the world by what standard? Everyone comes here for their healthcare when it matters. No one goes to Bali for that kidney surgery, or jets of to London f or their dental work. Our docs are the best, our care is the best and EVERYONE with an emergency is handled. No thousands of women having babies in hallways, no people dying waiting for treatment (or nearly none. There are some exceptions that prove the rule). Get your facts straight and stop hatin'.

WHO did the study. You could have figured this out yourself by doing your own research online. We also rank 50th in life expectancy. You can find this online too. Just 5 spots ahead of Cuba. Just type into Google "life expectancy by country". Still think we are the best? Get some fact before shitting from the mouth.

It worked effectively for 25 years until the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999, led by Republicans, deregulated banks that led to the banking meltdown by allowing banks to sell instruments they had no experience in.
