  • 37 people must be blind AND deaf.

  • @SnapeVictorious 38 now, but indeed, you are correct. Let's pretend that these 38 are insidious little beasts of bad taste, yes?

  • @boyhollow

    *agree* ;-)

  • Nick, I don't know how to express myself.

  • This was the worst thing ive ever seen in my life,

whats the artistic value of playing back someone elses song and just singing after?

  • @steffo1 Wanker

  • The three tenors:

    huh-

    Cohen, Waits and Cave.

    .

    --

Let Zimmerman find his own place...

  • Un aburrimiento; no sé como lo comparan con Dylan; lo único que tienen en común es que ambos son judíos.

  • all note in one note, all is light, sound & nathing

    izul luzi

  • The song is wonderous, the backing singers send tingles down my spine. But i do not know what the lead singer was thinking when he decided to sing out of time.

  • I like metal, last night I went to a Parkway Drive concert and moshed, got stage-dived on, had to be checked for concussion. But Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Dylan almost make me weep sometimes, I just love them. And it makes me sick that Rebecca Black said she was inspired by Leonard Cohen.

  • @TheXyaan Please say that is a joke?!!

  • @manicbabyshambles123 Please say what is a joke, I said a lot of stuff there.

  • I like metal, last night I went to a Parkway Drive concert and moshed, got stage-dived on, had to be checked for concussion. But Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Dylan almost make me weep sometimes, I just love them.

  • hes obv stoned and wrecks a performance he would have cherished having a chance to sing. guess thats part of being nick cave sometimes.

  • @AndersHansen1988 Hardly. He's been clean & sober for some time.

  • Im from russia.its super

  • it looks to me like he is forceing im self to sing,i love all his songs and albums, watched a ton' of vids and been to concert, but this song doesnt fits.

  • @yellowbirdie007 Maybe he just really loves and appreciates what this song means to songwriters, you fucktwat. I would hope that anyone who covers Leonard Cohen would be at least this humbled.

  • I don't understand why people question this. Nick like Leonard is a master lyracyst.. the melody and words are incredibly moving on this track, is there anything more beautiful in storytelling. people who don't get it are obviously oblivious and unable to observe such beauty, sadly because they're seriously missing out.

  • breathtaking Nick!! what a beautiful heart, mind and voice like liquid velvet.

  • is this from the movie im your man,i remember nick cave in it,but i dont remember what he sang

  • @cidudefive Yup, its from I'm Your Man.

  • @familygirlxx cheers dude.i remember going to see this with my music class.it was an amazing film,i was the only guy in the class who knew more then one of the songs

  • I soo don't understand nick! ... What is this?????? What d F... is he doing?

  • @6ollie66 Easily lost , are we? He took a liberty with the arrangement.!

  • @6ollie66 true,looks like he's forceing something,i know he's a forcer ,grinder but this...uf,just woke up and recived this one,like a bad taste of coffe,xd...

  • .. i am Cohen and Cave fan and man that was cool...

  • And don't forget their weird old cool uncle, Tom Waits.

  • @TheJiggsCasey ....uncle Tom is the really the devil "but that god when hes drunk"...haahhahaha

  • @TheJiggsCasey ...and their junkie cousin lou

  • @euphorium420

Now there's a family I could hang with for awhile.

  • @TheJiggsCasey so much like on this comment.

  • Respond to this video... and the old family friend Elvis Costello.

  • If a person has followed Nick Cave, it is obvious that he often sings a beat or two ahead of or behind backing vocals.

  • absolut geil gemacht, so muß es sein. Nick Cave hats halt einfach drauf.

  • I might be able to like Nick Cave...after all.

  • To great singing poets, I have been a great fan of Nick Cave but never really liked Cohen but still I have nothing but deepest respect for his work. They are a branch from the same tree.

  • nick is damn GORGEOUS

  • its magic

  • its great to see such a successful musician doing a gesture for another musician who influenced him

  • Cave does an amazing job with Cohen's songs-

    He just moves me.

  • Nick sang Avalanche on the first Bad Seeds record and covered Tower of Song on I'm Your Fan. he is a long time Leonard Cohen fan, and this is a beautiful tribute.

  • Comment removed

  • Julie Christensen and Perla Batalla singing for Nick, interpreting the song in his ownway....and although I love Leonard to bits, and the two ladies who were his brilliant backing singers , I am discovering Nick Cave, singing Leonard's, and his own songs....no need to make choices...two great artists to appreciate ..xx

  • I'm only 30 and he's old enough to be my father, but I find him to be one of the most attractive men. *swooooons* He's touched me with his him mind time and time again. His wife is so lucky.

  • @andreejeannette i'm 20 but i feel the same about him.. so handsome. and talented.

  • inconmensurable

  • Absolutely fantastic, I really like Nick Cave, he comes a close second to Cohen when he sings this classic in his own style.

Both are genius in their own ways.

  • fantastic cover.

  • to je hnus..vazne to jenom kazí!!!!

  • soooo cool, I've seen the movie I'm your man, it was great

  • can't stop listening to this song

  • I'm sure that Nick is admireing to Leonard by singing his song's. Both are unique

  • ye should all also see the song " Into my arms" from this mate! that'll get the onions peeled right!

  • Can anyone pls help me fix my ignorance?

(Not all of it; not humanly possible)

But just: when & where was this show?

    Thanx for any answers...

  • beautiful !!

  • I can never get enough of this. Best version, I love both Nick and Cohen. This is a match made in heaven. I'd take this over Avalanche any day.

  • Cohen, Cave and Dylan - the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

  • @yochanan12 I don't know, I think Neil Young needs to be there with Cohen and Dylan if there has to be three. Cave belongs to a different line, with Waits, Reed, Lennon perhaps, Simon is in there somewhere...

  • @druggieboy2

Yeah, if you´re looking at it from the POV of a musicologist you´re certanliy right. But I´m a devoted beliver, you know;-) (All the guys you´ve mentioned are among the apostles, of course. And Van the Man too.)

  • @yochanan12 Oh man, I couldn't agree more!

  • @yochanan12

the trinity would be Cohen, Cave and Cash.

  • @yochanan12 sorry I wanted to push "Thumb up!" cool comments !

  • @yochanan12 Did Cave write? Serious question. Otherwise, how can you possibly say that?

  • @yochanan12 you and this TheJiggsCasey guy, you get it. you get it.

  • @yochanan12 You forget Cash dear, the fucking GOD

  • this is fucking amazing!

  • a delightful rendition of a great song

  • why do people like this guy? i just dont get it.

  • @ThomWithKawliga Its just one of those things. Either you love Cave or you dont. Its just taste. I really enjoy his music. Its just something some people get.

  • He married Susie Bick... i imagine he is singing it for her... i love the depth he lends to lyrics.

  • @divaink1313

Actually no. this song is about a friend's wife who he had a thing for and almost slept with. The beginning is actually totally literal.

  • sorry they suck!I don't care how many ppl are on stage!

  • so nice!

  • how about this for a collaboration Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, and Lou Reed

  • tak toto je dobreeeeeee, great song fuuuu

  • beautiful..not a good as the original obviously.but still beautiful..have a listen to the judy collins and leonard cohen one..now that realy is imense..x.

  • i love nick cave but he can't touch cohen or this song- he doesn't feel it. he acts like he feels it- but its clearly an act

  • @bobbyhasbun "he acts like he feels it- but its clearly an act"

    Wow.

A true telepath; u actually know what another person is thinking / feeling! A human lie-detector - & not even f2f, just via a vid!

With that unique talent, u clearly should b making Big Bux playing hi-stakes poker in Vegas (better yet, Monaco).

So don't let us keep u from what is obvsly yr great destiny.

No, really -- it'll be tuff, no question. But we'll manage 2 get by without u, somehow. Don’t forget to write.

  • @toddlerj102

It's hard to take you seriously when you can't even be arsed spelling words properly - but never fear, we'll habg our head in shame at hoe we don't respect Mr Cohen like you do. By the way, you can take your 2pence back.

  • @harrisroyal

I"m the biggest fan of both Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave, and appreciate the differences in their music as well as the similarities. NC has covered a number of LC's songs in time; this is far from the best. Nick should be leading more not following the backup singers. Although, when they hit the notes together around the middle of the song there is some gold..

  • @toddlerj102 I haven't a clue about music, like you said, but I would recommend you not speak in public ever again. You just embarrass yourself and the rest of us.

  • To all the people criticising this........SHUT UP! SHUT UP!!! You're ruining the performance...SHUT UP!!!! For fuck's sake.....

  • This is great I reckon.. I like the phrasing and delivery of it..

  • he's an artist, these opinions are irrelevant and i'm sure he doesn't care what anyone thinks about his performance except for maybe cohen, but even then that wouldn't influence his performance.

  • he's an artist, these opinions are irrelevant and i'm sure he doesn't care what anyone thinks about his performance except for maybe cohen, but even then it wouldn't matter.

  • Valium

  • heaven !

  • perhaps he wasn't able to see the lyrics? the drag is not normal for him -- he doesn't know the words ....................

  • so great....

  • I love this man and the music...

  • Well, if you ask me i really respect and love Nick Cave but only Cohen can do this. All the best

  • The Perfect Dictator and Protector of us all.

  • Really dislike the backing vocals. Make it sounds like he's doing karaoke.

  • @expressions2006 Well, those are Cohen's back-up singers, they know their job... NC is great, but reads the sheets down there. True, I like his delivery and probably would be even better without the backing vocals.

  • If you fall down deep and dark look to Leonard,Nick and Morrisey they will help you wallow in your own self pity. You need this deepness to escape the hum drum and return to the summit where you and only you are King.

  • @rickydickydobee Yes indeed my friend, could'nt have put it better!

  • @rickydickydobee .....and don't forget to throw a little Nick Drake in there as well.

  • @rickydickydobee haha...thank you for this ;)

  • @rickydickydobee Best comment ever......

  • @rickydickydobee Morrisey got very, very lucky being elevated to that company.

  • @HeadlandRoad Please listen to Moz the lyics will not only absorb but enrobe you in all things dark and beautiful and you will finally let the torch pass peacefully.

  • It is simply beautiful ...... i love nick cave

  • Woooooooooowww!!

Here are a great one singing another greater one!!

    A real jewel, indeed

  • brilliant!

  • Cave fucked this song

  • @Azoicum Yessir, he fucked it with his perfect body, ate it, ran it through his brilliant mind and there's this gorgious rendition.

  • @tonbuchele sound like a social anxiety disability

  • @Azoicum Is Asoicum your surname 'cause your daddy is from Pluto or is it the divice they had to implant into your brain to restart your basic function ?

  • Comment removed

  • @Azoicum YOu wanker. Your taste is up your bum

  • genius,love this song.

  • @davidgahan73 suzanne - ;'d i'm crying - you've always been such a part of my life -since my son was a toddler dancing to Leonard Cohen in front of the fire place - :( when he said " tom waites" was the"mean man" BABY I miss you so fucking much-you were the most wonderful child &son anyone could have had, dancing in front of our fireplace to the soundtrack to CLOCKworkorange my baby my baby my baby, you were only15, i'm dead without you, my beautiful son my baby omg my baby i want to die

  • @PaleBunnySkinForLife

    try harder

  • @LvisE try harder to do what

  • @LvisE I don't know why my comment says "two days ago" I wrote this weeks ago - the 4th anniversary of his death is on Sept 17th - youtube is screwed up

  • Nick Cave on Leonard Cohen "I discovered Leonard Cohen with Songs of Love and Hate. I listened to this record for hours in a friend's house. I was very young and I believe this was the first record that really had an effect on me. In the past, I only listened to my brother's records. (continued below)

  • @andyismyname song's of love & hate is one of his best - really glad you heard it

  • (continued) I liked what he liked, followed him like a sheep. Leonard Cohen was the first one I discovered by myself. He is the symbol of my musical independence. I remember these other guys that came to my friend's house that thought Songs of Love and Hate was too depressing. I've realized that this 'depression' theory was ridiculous. The sadness of Cohen was inspirer, it gave me a lot of energy. I always remember all this when someone says that my records are morbid or depressing."

  • he seems not to remember the lyrics!

  • Is he reading the lyrics while singing??????

  • @comradevinyl Many people seem to not notice that there is a pattern to his late starts. Read andyismyname's post above. This was caves favorite album. He's just a bit awkward looking on stage. lol

  • Class! Who is the backing singer then eh? Can't be Jennifer Warnes can it? That would be really something.

  • I'm stunned by some of the comments here. I LOVE Cohen's version of Suzanne. I remember the first time I heard Cohen, and I fell in love with this song in particular. Singing this Nick isn't trying to compete with Cohen, and I would be almost 100% sure he didn't forget the words, he simply sang it his way, which I happen to think made it very beautiful. It was done as a tribute to a singer Nick has obviously admired for a long time. So why bitch and compare? Just enjoy.

  • @familygirlxx there is nothing to enjoy, sorry. i sucked cohens music from my mothers nipples 38 years ago and love caves music for about 10 years, but this one definitely does not work, point.

  • @dbx42dot1 Fair enough! Whats works for someone doesn't work for someone else. Each to their own and all that. I like it, you don't, but hey if everyone loved the same things life would get pretty dull pretty fast! I don't think this is the best cover of a song I've ever heard, but when I'm in the right mood it hits me in the right place.

  • @familygirlxx you are right. each to their own. that is what i wanted to point out. so, no bitchin is done when commenting in a way that is different from " i love this one". glad to know we have the same opinion, greetz n cheerz!

  • @familygirlxx Ha, it does look like he was forgetting the words, probably not the lyrics themselves but just the order of the verses AND probably because he knows and loves the song so intimately and has sung it so many times to himself while he was doing dishes or whatever that actual order had become totally irrelevant. Just speculation, of course. Anyway, anyone who knows anything about Nick Cave knows his debt to Leonard Cohen and, as you said, his deep admiration. It's beautiful!

  • Comment removed

  • @farmdoggie99 Probably true, after all he does seem to forget the order of his own lyrics on stage sometimes. But people were annoying me with their comments before I posted on this video. You just know Cave knows Cohen!

And lol at the thought of Nick Cave standing over a sink doing the dishes...include some rubber gloves and there is a picture I'd like to see! :p I never imagine him doing normal people stuff, suppose he must just like the rest of us!

  • he looks so sad, desperate and lost here. it tears my heart apart. :(

  • I like Nick Cave, but hes lost here, it sounds like nothing, he's out of his depth here and sounds like an off duty waiter on karioki night.

  • aprendete la letra nico

  • If Nick Cave ever wanted to take a break from himself, he should go on tour as Leonard Cohen.

  • with your mind...

  • This is a singer?? What injustice to this beautiful son....
