ive said this in another video and i will say it again its all in how you raise and train it. My neighbor got a german shepherd and over scocialized him and one day her boyfriend beat her up and her dog didnt help her at all he didnt even bark she told me "he looked confused". The dog wasnt loyal because she let everyone who met him feed him tons of treats and give him commands and he was too friendly he treated everyone like family following random people.

@1NecroSpawn My old gs was really friendly around anybody too but should that person have broken in the house or showed signs of aggression or anger towards us, I'm sure she would have attacked. She knew the difference between playing and fighting. But like you said it has a lot to do with the training. Belle was as much a guard dog as she was a family member. We never worried about people snooping around our trailer when we had her. She took her job very seriously. :)
generally speaking, a dog considers itself a member of the pack, and if they see higher ups fighting, they wouldn't mess with them. He was probably just confused about having his masters boyfriend attacking her. If it was a total stranger, then it probably would have been completely different.
Although, it does have a lot to do with upbringing and genetics, but don't not socialize your dog so it will protect you. Thats ridiculous!
@SageGSD I think its a bit of both. Some people just dont get it they rush out and get a GSD adn expect it to protect them and when it doesnt they get rid of it at 1, 2, 3 years old or their GSD didnt get big enough. I see it all of the time at the shelter i foster for and i see it on the internet pet sites...
German Shepherds were bred for guarding sheep, - against wolves & wild dogs and rustlers, but Boxers were bred for bear-baiting, and will never back down in a real fight, even if it costs him his life.
I grew up with a German Shepherd and now have a 4 month old brindle Boxer bitch - both are awesome breeds but very different. These dogs are definitely not fighting properly, you should see our friends dogs play fighting (male Boxer and Dalmatian bitch), they look like it's a fight to the death but still just playing :)

Both breeds are German bred dogs, and I have owned several of both. Points: Obedience and intelligence are two separate things - ideally, your dog will exhibit BOTH traits. Bite force is not only in the jaw - much of it is in the muscles from the cheek bone to the top of the skull - the wider the top of the head, the greater the bite. While the GS has fur to protect it from biting, the Boxer's skin itself is a muscle - it can tighten and contract it's skin at will.
In my opinion, the Boxer is being discounted in these posts due to it's clown like nature, but unless you've ever seen a large male Boxer go completely f*cking ape shit ferocious before, then you really shouldn't discount it's "other side." Shepherds are tough, but a Boxer is very tough when pushed to be so. There are standard boxers bred for show, and then there are the large, muscular 90+ pounders bred for strength and work. look at their faces, they a relaxed around the mouth, the teeth are rarely bared, plus they aren't actually biteing each other,just mouthing.
also, note the floppy tails, they aren't stiff like they should be if they were fighting. and the barks aswell, they are generally high pitched.
If you saw a real fight you would know the difference, this is just some rough play.
