It all depends on what college you go to, at the moment im year 2 of 3 of Games Design and its good :), but i enjoy most things im doing in this so i know its what i wanna do but every college course gets boring so just pick a course you see yourself WANTING to do for years if you like fixing pc's then do a course for that etc.. hopefully your course will b good :D, got any good manga recently?

No point of learning "Web Development" you will learn that in any graphical course, i learned how to create them in Photoshop and make the site animated etc.. in Flash so i made a great website via our course and with so many companies practically giving websites away and people creating websites are soo cheap there is no point of going down an area like that.

To be honest its too easy to make websites, pritty much anyone can do it with a few lessons on basic scripting in flash and basic skills in Photoshop, unlike other fields its too easy for anyone to replicate and thats why web designers are selling sites or selling themselves to create a site soo cheap because theres so many doing it. if you make 70k a year good on ya lol i bet thats $70k US money which over here £35k which isn't nothing special, the site isnt up anymore.

Take in mind I did not go to school to learn what I know. I spent the better part of 2 years learning Front-end development and I've landed some clients that treat me well. I'm not saying that's a lot of money, but out here in California, I'm making more than the average Joe.

The fact of the matter is that there's a lot of incompetent companies that fail at producing a product that is unique and not just some cookie cutting POS.

Front-end is just the beginning. Learning some basic PHP/SQL can help you better gigs that deal with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, Drupal, or even some eCommerce projects. Just one of those projects can get your bills paid for a month.

It's definitely hard for a freelancer. I work from home, but at the end of the day, I'm running a business.

Web development is a very vast field. I'm specifically a web applications programmer, that is, I don't ever design the front end, but I write programs that run inside the browser. If you're artsy, learn web design (check out graphic design), if you're looking for more of the programming aspect (which is where the real money is), look into Computer Science.
