yea theres a very limited amount of mc's who put time and thought into thier lyrics and work, but they still keep it real some examples are talib kweli, mos def, common, not to mention a slew of underground artist, its these guys who are keeping hip hop pure
I'm 18 and sad to see that mainstream hip-hop has moved away from this. I was listening to 9th Wonder and he was saying how people today often see music before they hear it. It seems like hip-hop has become so much more image-conscious. It doesn't seem like many artists focus on the production or lyrics of their songs. But at least people can go back and listen to classics like this.
Gang starr's-step in the arena, daily operation, hard to earn, and moment of truth. these dudes catalogs are unrivaled only pete and cl come with that same energy. Dam i miss real hip hop!!!!!!!!
You're partially right. The intro with Baby Pa wasn't an actual song, but Pete did use the intro beat for Sadat X's "Escape From New York" on his Wild Cowboys ablum in 1996.
yeah go to Rosenberg radio, and listen to the Juan Epstein podcast with Mr Cee, its about 57 minutes long, Mr Cee helped biggie as he came up and told his whole history for the second half of that show

i've been a big pete rock fan, love the b beats (INI cd also), but could never really get into c.l. smooth's rapping. just don't think his voice matches the beats. that's what i always liked about the INI cd, great rapping and production. too bad only one came out :(

That Intro Beat...
It was used by Raekwon and Ghost on MarleyMarl's FutureFlavors promo-joints.
It also was used on a track by Sadat-X and some other artist ona joint I can't remember during the 90's. It's a tight (opening) beat.
Thanks!
