I've been looking to get into Pratchett but I haven't really known what book to start with. I bought Thud! Then Going Postal. But I didn't read either one... cuz again where to start?
I finally decided to get the first one Colors of Magic.... So know I'd like to ask you a question.
Which of the books can a person buy that will be a good introduction to the Discworld series?
as an avid TP fan, i can tell you that you can basically start with every book - if you're fast on facts :) Terry usually gives a brief explanation in the beginning of the book about the Discworld.
But for starters you could try out Colour of Magic, followed by The Light Fantastic (both very awesome). Those are the first two Discworld books, and if you haven't started with Thud! or Going Postal yet (both 2 of my favourites) i suggest you do very quickly, because you'll fall in love! :D
Nice preview :) Pratchett's my favourite writer since I've read The Color Of Magic :) It's the first book of Discworld sage, so i think I made a good decision to buy it :) And, what's weird, I had hardly ever read books before that :P Now, in two months, I've bought 14 of his books and I'm only reading, reading, reading, reading.... :)
Absolutely. Pratchett is one of my all-time favourite authors (I have an addiction to fantasy, sci-fi and humour. Combining two of these or even all three in a consistent manner is a good way to get me to read) ^_^
I love Terry Pratchett, too, but he changed a lot. Well, the books span many years... I don't find the later books boring or inferior, but they are deeper and more cynical. I think the colour of magic was the first and is fun and lighthearted...
Good choice. I loved the disc world after reading The Thief of Time. 1st one I read, and luckily for me, it doesn't need to much knowledge of characters.
The second one (after the God Delusion) that I've read. I've read all the Discworld novels up to Hogfather. To be honest, I got kind of bored with them, but the earlier ones were very good. Mort was the first one I read.
First Terry Pratchett novel I read was the Hogfather too. =D

try "good omens" by Terry Pratchet and Niel Gaimen which is actually the first witch book ... Not a discworld though

are you going to do a review on small gods some day?i thought it was a deeply insightful take on religion.

If you like Pratchett & have an atheist mindset, chances are you'll love Douglas Adams' 'The Salmon of Doubt' too.
But then I'm always torn which of the two (Pratchett or Adams) is the better author.

I agree that Witches Abroad is a good place to dip into Discworld. Another one might be The Truth, which I think stands on its own very well as well.
