  • A Jamieson Smile: Hey, Larry was not part of the group at that time.

A Jamieson Note: The Drummer not only conducts

but uses the "aerobic 1-3-4 timing".

    Hmmm,

    Jamieson (Peter)

  • my puppy love song in the late 60's.almost cry when i hear song!

  • that must be one hell of a (single) microphone to capture the incredible live vocal performance.

  • Is that guy on the far left Ronnie James Dio ? hehe

  • I absolutely LOVE this song, but I just gotta say---A) Ray Romano in a Beatle wig, third from right---B) Singer changing into the Wolfman, starting at about 2:20, second from right---

    C) Zombie stare from bass player at 1:25. Oh, and D) Robin the Boy Wonder on drums.

    That's Entertainment!

  • Glee brought me here. Hate me all you want.

They introduced me to this lovely piece. This song is amazing.

  • Yes, Glee brought me here. Sorry.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, they are obviously lip syncing, but you can search on YouTube and fine other versions of them raw and live and see that they really could play this. They aren't as perfect and polished as a studio recording, but they still demonstrate that they really can play this.

  • a real masterpiece this song...I never tire listening to it..certainly one of the best love songs ever

  • oh man..this is timeless!

  • This is beautiful, what talent, I hope they are still going!

  • the best version I have herd of this song was done by david cassidy,,

  • ist kiss in 67' to this song. what a feeling of emotions i can only get today by you tube! cherish is the word!

  • Real Name:Jules Gary Alexander

Profile:Jules Alexander (born September 25th, 1943, Chattanooga, Tennessee), an original member of the group The Association (vocals, lead guitar), used his middle name Gary on the group's first 2 albums.

In 1967 Jules Alexander left the group to study meditation in India, returning to the group he had helped found in early 1969. He continued recording & touring with the group until leaving the group in early 1989.

  • My parents danced to this song after they were pronounced man and wife!

  • The Asian guy looks like he came into the group in 1967. This is 1966 and the short guy to our far left seems to be the one who was replaced. But if you look at his guitar work he is doing it proper just like the record where the Asian guysin other videos is good but not perfect like this guy, so who is this guy who is apparently the original member who had the guitar chops and the pretty background vocals. His contribution to cherish was flawless and a beautiful part! So who is he where is now?

  • Where is the Asian guy?

  • love 'em & the Turtles, keep getting them confused and yet I met the Turtles......

  • One of the greatest love songs of the 60s.

  • These songs remind me of being a little kid in a big family with older siblings.

There was so much violence at the time, yet our society was filled with people who were basically much more gentle and peaceful at the time.

Being a kid at that time was an experience I can never give my own children. I try to give them a sense of that gentle world through my own behavior. It's all I can offer.

  • I'm beginning to think, That Man has never found the words that could make you want me. That have the right amount of letters, just the right sound, that could make you hear, make you see, that you are driving me out of my mind.

Are you kidding me, THIS SONG IS TRUE ART!!!

  • I love this song, they were so cool at this point!

  • this songs gimme a piece of mind...I love the association,although I'm 33 years...

  • those were the days, bright n sunny....missed it.

  • I always thought this song was a little over the top. Even at eight years old I knew it was cringe-worthy

  • Hormonies r tight

  • My heart is broken over history......

  • 6 singers. one microphone.

  • The times I danced to this one.

  • An all time favorite of mine!!

  • Number ONE song on the day I was born!:)

  • @modolls4me , Me too!! 45 years, geee!

  • What happen to some of these guys ? On later videos some were replaced .

  • Where's the VC ?

  • #1 song September 22, 1966

  • Really good arrangements. Not a wonder they were noticed.

  • This was featured in the film Pretty in Pink was it not?

  • this song, is a close song ,to my heart. one love, from years gone by. still love ya miss lou earl ! always will. trailboss

  • great singer's, to bad we don't have singers like this anymore. long live the 60's and 70's

  • I CULD DO THE PART OF THE GUY ON THE LEFT JUST SINGING... BOOP.....BOOOP....BOOP......BOOP....BOOP......BOOP....BOOP

  • Cherish is the best slow dance song ever!! I love it!

  • Dig the wall of amps. Cannot tell what they are .

  • @midlocal Jordan amps, at 1:16 with image enhancement. A common amp back then, solid state, reliable, sounded okay without distortion. Abandoned when everyone turned everything up, as they sound bad and fry.

  • It's 1966, I'm off in the Army...I hear this and think of Arline back in Chicago

  • I am glad we have this music to remember our youth by. I wonder what young people of today will have to listen to, oh yeah, crap rap!

  • @Monrocsol Not all of us.if I meet a guy I love I am going to have him sing this song to me.

  • @Monrocsol Don't worry dude, there are still guys like Bruno Mars.

  • @Monrocsol good point

  • @Monrocsol

the same stuff you listened to... new stuff isn't always the best stuff... people listen to the same music you did 50 years ago today as well. :D

  • I saw these guys live back in 1970. Believe me they could sound exactly like the record. Harmonies and all ..they really were an excellent band in person. They even performed a very difficult acapella piece.

  • When you can hear six guys clearly through a single microphone, chances are it's lip-synced. Ya think?

  • @rmsadoq1 Uh ..NO ... Chances ARE that they actually had real , talented , singing voices back then that could harmonize and carry a tune,,

Not like allot of the dumb-ass singers of today who have their voices "Auto -tuned" to hide the fact that they CAN'T sing worth a shit !!

  • @spunkyboy1 u hit the nail rite on the head! thanx so much...

  • @spunkyboy1 Lol, the fact is that a single mic is picking up 6 separate voices at equal volumes (especially the harmonies at 2:31 from the guitarists) but not the drum set that is closer and louder to the mic than most of the band. This "miracle" of sound engineering is impossible. Also, you can clearly hear the bell chimes that were in the studio recording. They were lipsyncing, which was common practice back then. Labels wanted to portray this sense of perfection with their bands. A la TOTP.

  • I might also add that I had the biggest crush on Ringo Star!

  • Whenever I hear this song I think of Kathy and New Year's eve 1970 and the wonderful time i had that night. thank you kathy

  • im feeling soooooo DREAMY RIGHT NOW,, OOOOOOO iv been lovin this joint since birth,, beautiful classic indeed,, realllllll music every day alllllllllday.....*)

  • This was "our song" with my first husband and father of my son. However, Cherish didn't happen in the marriage, only indifference. I left. And I still cherish him.

  • BEST OF THE BEST SONGS AND LYRICS..

  • The beginning sounds like the melodic hauntingly beautiful bells from the angels in heaven.

  • Where's the Asian?

  • @huskyjerk I think this was before he joined the group.

  • One month before this I took my highschool sweetheart to see them. Really miss you Cindy.

  • Why is the drummer always the sexiest one in the band?

  • @nauort23 Yes, please give the drummer some! He is dreamy!!!!!!

  • @adjforreal some WHAT?! Well, whatever it is, I'd like to give it to him. I love that word: "dreamy"... lol. Ringo wasn't the cutest, but he was the sexiest. It's that drummer thing again. Must be all that banging. lol

  • LoveLoveLove this so much!

  • i always thought there was a female vocal in with them as well.......the highs,wow...fantastic harmonies.......brings back alot of memories !

  • only clip i've seen with original guitarist gary alexander.

  • @newjackdoug I just got goose bumps! I was reading all of these posts to find out who this original guitarist was. He had his playing perfect with the record whether lipsiyned or not, he knew his part and his harmony part on the bum bum's was beautiful. the Asin did ok replacing him but not quite as good as Gary. Thank you so much for answering that question for me. Do you know where he is now or what else he did, very talented, maybe the best in the band!

  • Wow - this takes me back in time. I was 10 years old, my parents were healthy and working and full of life, my brothers and sisters 4,5, and 6 years old. What a fun time! Lots of great memories! Thanks for posting!

  • Do you have to have that timer flicking away the whole time? Very distracting.

  • great band awkward image for 66

  • This was the processional (instrumental, of course) which was played as my bride walked up the aisle on her father's arm in 1973.

    Ah, memories...

  • "Along Comes Mary" is a great song... and it;s about mary jane too!

  • I remember playing this in the school band and winning a competition with as well. Thanks for posting it.

  • Una de las mejores canciones de amor,me parte y me mueve !

  • Perfect harmonies. Great memeories of the 60's.

  • great song thanks for the upload

  • Thank you. I was thinkng he was from Japan because they said he was "made in Japan" during the opening robot speech.

  • where's the little Japanese man?

  • @BassFever74 If you're referring to the Hawaiian Philipino guitarist named Ramos, I think, he joined the group soon afterward. He was in the group in 1967, when they made Windy and Never my Love.

  • THis song is timeless! I love it!

  • The best slow dance song ever...

  • so amazing

  • I agree. Never My Love and Cherish, the Best!!

    Their Harmonies are incrediable/

  • @desert3347 I agree,I like Along comes Mary also.

  • @desert3347 Yes they are!

  • Cherish, and Never My Love are two of the greatest love songs of all time...

  • @imoldyoung How did you pick those two? Must've been difficult because ALL of the Association's love songs are the greatest love songs of all time :) I met Jim Yester in 1995. (He was in the New Four Preps). He is one of the nicest people I had the pleasure of meeting. We talked about the hits and he shared interesting trivia with us. Later, while talking with some more fans, one of them asked him about his records. He laughed, pointed to me and said "Go ask him!"

  • @littlemikey1954 Actually, they never recorded a song I did`nt like, I just remember listening to that music growing up back then and how much more meaning they have now...

  • THEY DON'T WRITE THEM LIKE THIS ANYMORE

  • This group was great at harmonizing...

  • @YhwhKhai

Almost acapella... sorry, if not spelled right.

  • timeless classic

  • first band i ever saw live.

  • This is the lineup I saw live at Maple Leaf Gardens 1966. If I remember correctly they were one of the opening Acts for the Lovin' Spoonful.

Great Show! They were a lot better than I expected.

The album was "and then along comes The Association."

  • @matchlessmc I saw the Beatles twice at Maple Leaf Gardens. Beachboys in the old stadium where the Argos used to play. AND Mamas and Papas at the Gardens. Sucks but sweet to be old.

  • love the song but really they look like a group of accountants with those suits on lol.

  • @worseto1 yeah I know, lol

  • @worseto1

Entertainers used to "dress up" as a way of showing respect and gratitude to their audiences. Most of the really talented ones still do.

  • Boy, does this bring back memories! I memorized that song 45 years ago. It was just the tune for a lonely guy like me.....

  • Wow, I am really glad you posted this. Thanks a lot. Best love song ever.

  • This video was from "Andy Williams Show", I am Sure

  • Great song....wonderful vocals....but at least TRY to look like you're really playing (drummer on the singles at 2:09)

  • Those were the days. Songs the captured the essence of love.

  • Do you know what show this came from?

  • Kirkman was such a wonderful songwriter!

Although other members contributed songs, it was always Terry's that rose above the rest, with their sensitive lyrics and exquisite melodies.

  • @Babyhowdy233 Very well said! :)
