Looked to me like Lori Morgan was having a very nice time until that guy sitting to her left intimidated her. If that had happened in Maine that guy would have been out the door with a crooked nose. Lori is a beautiful young lady and it broke my heart to see her good time ruined by some full of himself Man. Hell not a man just a stuffed shirt. Makes my blood boil.
i love gene watsons voice! theres a guy on you tube that sings one of his songs, statue of a fool. rocky standridge, check it out he would make gene proud!!!
@ramey58 Sorry I said the wrong name, I meant Jack Greene. "Statue of a Fool" was written by Jan Crutchfield and recorded by many country artists. It was first recorded in 1969 by country music artist Jack Greene where it was released as a single and became a number 1 hit. The Ricky Van Shelton version wasn't made until 1989....my bad :)
This man is a country legend and should be instilled in the country music hall of fame. I have seen Gene in so many venues, he`s is so personalable, great to talk to and just a really great person.
My brother and I have called each other during Solid Gold Saturday Night on the radio to sing the last verse together at the top of our lungs. Our wives, kids and neighbors just don't get it.
MOST HIGHLY UNDER-RATED man in the business...y'all can keep your head-bangin' music, I'll stick with Mr. Gene Watson....look at the faces of the "big-name artists" when he finishes.....PURE ADMIRATION!!!
Shows how great a singer Gene Watson is when all the legends give him a standing ovation and are amazed at how he sings that note at the end of the song. AWESOME!!!!!!!
i love this song i listen to it when i was growing up what a song there was a old man that wanted his wife to remarry after he died so someone else would live thru what he did
IT does not get any better , I have listened to Gene since I came to Texas in 1975, was in hotel business for over 45 years and every concert or club that he was at near Houston I went to, The man is a fabulous singer!!!!!!!!!!!!! Call today and VOTE him into CMA,Thanks
P>S> Todays singers of C&W (?) listen and learn, and send the fluff back to school.
Awwww Man ..... This is one of his best --and did hear it last year in person and GENE stills owns the best version of this Classic.....Tks for posting it for all to enjoy....George
Awesome!!! I was introduced to this song about three years ago by a friend named Carl Bradley. His uncles are Owen and Harold Bradley. Both are in the Country Music Hall of Fame. I feel honored to have Carl as a friend. Devotees of Country will recognize the importance of Owen and Harold. I first started listening to Country in the early 80's and was spoiled by all the great vocalists, writers, musicians and producers of the time. I wish there was still that talent around today.
I would have to agree with "happygospel" that his song should rival GJs He Stopped Loving Her Today as one of the best C&W songs ever. I would like to know the story behind this song. Did Gene write this? It doesn't get any better than this one for a tearjerker and drinkin' song.
Thanks. This song, in my opinion\, should rival "he Stopped Loving Her Today" as the best country song ever and Gene Watson pretty much rivals George Jones as the best Country singer ever born. Great Stuff.
@ramey58 thank you. cmt made a big mistake when they changed their format. i used to listen all the time and it's where i first saw delbert mcklinton. anyway again thanks for your time.
the new artists and up and coming wish they had this much emotion in thier tiny little finger. They just don't make em' like this no more. Just brilliant! Gave me chills, even after 30 years.
just found out this year that im related to gene, my mothers name is patricia watson, my grandmas was pauline watson, mom told me that he was her 2nd cousin this year...and doc, and mother maybell and the carter sisters...they came to her house as a child and played songs by the old oil lanterns in the living room
I have no musical knowledge or understanding of the mechanics of singing on key. But I always get the impression that all of those professionals listening to Gene know that they are hearing something very special.
Maybe it's because I love Gene's music so much that I think that.
I like to sing along to these videos but I just can't sing with Gene Watson, he is absolutely the most precise and talented vocalist I've ever heard..Gene to the Hall of Fame!
@GeneWatsonSongs Hi Queenbee6688 , We are uniting as Gene Watson fans to get him elected to the Cma Hall of fame , This has to be done befor Jan 2012 . We are writing letters to the CMA @ one Music Circle South, Nashville, Tn 37203 .... or call them @ 615-244-2840 I am sure you agree with all Gene Watson Fans. Please help. Thanks and God Bless
@ramey58 Hey Mark what can you do to help Gene Watson fans getting him elected to the CMA Hall of fame ?
we are calling the CMA @ 615-244-2840, if anyone should be elected this time it should be Gene Watson , He has paid his dues and has remained the true country we love . Thanks and have a Blessed day
Saw Gene Watson at the Country Music Inn, Lake County Il. what a show, right up there with George Jones and Vern Gosdin, deserves to be in the Hall of Fame
I listen to this song every chance I get. I love it and I love you Gene. I want this song at my Farewell Party...at my Homegoing. I will be glad that I can be in the hereafter with you, Larry Gatlin and others listening to wonderful songs. Maybe I could get you to sing "Bitter They Are" then too. I look forward to seeing you again.
The most fantastic male singer today! He's such a considerare man. He stays & signs autographs & poses for picture. He must be exhausted after his wonderful performance! He always leaves you wanting More!
great singer he was the headliner at a club in colorado i was so honored to be married on that same dance floor 17 yrs and counting now the club is a mexican market but i still have my memorys
Gene Watson's voice is getting better age. He is a great artist, fantastic singer, he deserves to inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He is long overdue.
I love this so much with so many of the great ones with Gene; all of them singing along. It's great. Love you Gene Watson, thanks for being on YouTube. xo m
@fpngan The ones I can see well enough to identify are Larry Gatlin, Joe Stampley, Janie Fricke, Lorrie Morgan, Barbara Fairchild, Ricky Van Shelton, B. J. Thomas, Waylon Jennings, Ferlin Husky, Bobby Bare, Roy Clark and Ralph Emery (the host of the show).
Gene Watson has the quality of a great country ballad singer. Almost none of the new singers can't even match the likes of Gene Watson, Ricky Van Shelton, Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Ray Price, Eddie Arnold, Sonny James to mention a few. Love you, Gene Watson
this is probably one of the top 5 country songs ever... and the one that made watson famous...BUT..does anybody have the orignal verson..by little jimmy dickens ??
Magnificent, understated live performance and am so happy and proud I've got to see him live. I will always treasure the memories. Thanks and appreciation to you and Gene for sharing!
@pedalman u got that right, if anyone is 50 or over, they know what true country music is about. i was raised on , buck, sonny james, johnny cash, charlie pride etc, and even a lot of bluegrass........todays so called country music isnt..... a few good ole style singers. but for the most part its a shame our kids and grandkids will never know this awesome music
@alwayssme I was brought up on the same great country music , but looking through youtube there are still some bands doing true country and bluegrass, have a look at "the bluegrass brothers", one in particular called "Wait a minute".There are two or three versions the one that I like is on a big stage looks a bit orangey. A noisy audience keeps sounding off a train whistle to the annoyance of the bass player his look says it all. The young guy on mandolin is superb, sings well too on other vids.
My kind of country music. Thank goodness for YouTube and downloads. Can't find anything this good on radio unless you have XM or can find a classic country station.
Great post thank you so much.. The only true country singers are George Jones and Scotty McCreery. I really hope Nashville will let him sing true country.
What I love is how Larry Gatlin is so deeply into Gene's rendition of the song that he doesn't even bother joining in as some of the others did. He was clearly genuinely moved by the song. To me, that was the greatest compliment the singer could have gotten -- and coming from Larry Gatlin, yet!
Great song, done only by Gene. Any idea what year this was? There's a lot of great county talent singing with him that have left us. Great shot of Waylon! Thanks for posting.
Genes Signature song never sounded better. I think at this point Gene was ill with cancer but he kept going despite doctors orders, and ever since then he is in remission, he sure had god on his side to keep him down here with us a little longer. He hits the high notes at the end as perfectly as he did when he first recorded this song
Sirdevlon...How right you are about Gene Watson! (Although I think after a certain degree of "greatness" one geatest voice is as great as another...and in this category to which Gene Watson belongs are also George Jones and Keith Whitely.
I wish the comments here would be regarding Gene Watson and not Blake Shelton's family tree. Nobody gives a fucking rat's ass who Blake Shelton's father is. If people want to have this mindless bullshit debate, do it on Blake Shelton's videos if he has any. I do not know nor do I care who Blake Shelton is.
Ricky Van Shelton is not Blake Shelton's Father. Blake's father is Dick and a used car salesman. Also Blake is from OK where I know Ricky Van Shelton is from VA. I do not believe that Ricky and his wife Betty have children.
wow !!! what a moving song !! he is the voice of a good tear jerking song .....love his music .. all singers do not put their feeling in a song .....greatest .. dove eyes tn ..
age did not change him any ! he still sounds good !

I have this recorded on DVD in my will, it will be played while they spread my ashes on my old dogs grave... he truly was my best friend.

Man would it be great to be setting in on a session like this !

@sivlenora100 AMEN!

Ricky Van Shelton is not Blake Shelton's Father. Blake's father is Dick and a used car salesman. Also Blake is from OK where I know Ricky Van Shelton is from VA. I do not believe that Ricky and his wife Betty have children.
