  • age did not change him any ! he still sounds good !

  • most fantastic voices of country music ever ricky n gene o.m.g. to me nothing better to make me feel good!

  • I LOVE SEEING GET TOGETHERS LIKE THIS,WHEN WAS THIS AND HOW DO I SEE THE WHOLE SHOW,CAUSE I SEE A FEW MORE OF MY FAVORITES IN THE GROUP ,LIKE WAYLON-J,GATLIN BRO,AND LOOKS LIKE JOHNNY PAYCHECK TOO, TY

  • @Spongemom59 Have you checked YouTube user NotGeneWatsonSongs? I've seen some of this taping there.

  • Looked to me like Lori Morgan was having a very nice time until that guy sitting to her left intimidated her. If that had happened in Maine that guy would have been out the door with a crooked nose. Lori is a beautiful young lady and it broke my heart to see her good time ruined by some full of himself Man. Hell not a man just a stuffed shirt. Makes my blood boil.

  • @Gironimo49 wow yes I can see that you are right....

  • The lady sitting by Gene I think is Janie Frickey.

  • i love gene watsons voice! theres a guy on you tube that sings one of his songs, statue of a fool. rocky standridge, check it out he would make gene proud!!!

  • @1wayneful STATUE OF A FOOL is a Ricky Van Shelton song.

  • @ramey58 Sorry I said the wrong name, I meant Jack Greene. "Statue of a Fool" was written by Jan Crutchfield and recorded by many country artists. It was first recorded in 1969 by country music artist Jack Greene where it was released as a single and became a number 1 hit. The Ricky Van Shelton version wasn't made until 1989....my bad :)

  • @1wayneful Sorry I meant to say I love Rick's voice and that Jack Greene would be proud.

  • Who is the woman sitting behind Larry Gatlin?

  • What in the world was Lori Morgan doing. When she shook her head she was not in sync and then she moved ...........

  • What country music is all about. It just don't get no better

  • This man is a country legend and should be instilled in the country music hall of fame. I have seen Gene in so many venues, he`s is so personalable, great to talk to and just a really great person.

  • 3:36. Enough said.

  • My brother and I have called each other during Solid Gold Saturday Night on the radio to sing the last verse together at the top of our lungs. Our wives, kids and neighbors just don't get it.

  • notice nobody tried to sing the final notes to that song. wonder if that's out of respect or if they just couldn't lol. maybe both

  • I'll be 82 this coming June, so the farewell party is not far in the future.

  • @dlw85257

Well, I'm pretty old and feeble myself. Maybe the last chapter of our

lives should be titled "Slouching toward eternity". LOL

  • MOST HIGHLY UNDER-RATED man in the business...y'all can keep your head-bangin' music, I'll stick with Mr. Gene Watson....look at the faces of the "big-name artists" when he finishes.....PURE ADMIRATION!!!

  • he did it sitting down. that oughta be against the law. the honest truth

  • Shows how great a singer Gene Watson is when all the legends give him a standing ovation and are amazed at how he sings that note at the end of the song. AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • behind larry gatlin is janie fricke and lori morgan.

  • Great voice in country music

  • GENE WATSON IS THE BEST SINGER EVER! HE PUTS THE NEW STUFF TO SHAME!

  • i love this song i listen to it when i was growing up what a song there was a old man that wanted his wife to remarry after he died so someone else would live thru what he did

  • Could not get much better than this -- unless it was my husband still singing this to me.....thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • This is from the Ryman Country Homecoming Series Videos 1 thru 3... I believe this performance is on Vol. 2.

  • IT does not get any better , I have listened to Gene since I came to Texas in 1975, was in hotel business for over 45 years and every concert or club that he was at near Houston I went to, The man is a fabulous singer!!!!!!!!!!!!! Call today and VOTE him into CMA,Thanks

P>S> Todays singers of C&W (?) listen and learn, and send the fluff back to school.

  • The BEST male singer!!!

  • Awwww Man ..... This is one of his best --and did hear it last year in person and GENE stills owns the best version of this Classic.....Tks for posting it for all to enjoy....George

  • Awesome!!! I was introduced to this song about three years ago by a friend named Carl Bradley. His uncles are Owen and Harold Bradley. Both are in the Country Music Hall of Fame. I feel honored to have Carl as a friend. Devotees of Country will recognize the importance of Owen and Harold. I first started listening to Country in the early 80's and was spoiled by all the great vocalists, writers, musicians and producers of the time. I wish there was still that talent around today.

  • I would have to agree with "happygospel" that his song should rival GJs He Stopped Loving Her Today as one of the best C&W songs ever. I would like to know the story behind this song. Did Gene write this? It doesn't get any better than this one for a tearjerker and drinkin' song.

  • This song just gets to m heart. Saw him years ago at Country City in Charlotte,N.C. Would love to see him again.

  • Thanks. This song, in my opinion\, should rival "he Stopped Loving Her Today" as the best country song ever and Gene Watson pretty much rivals George Jones as the best Country singer ever born. Great Stuff.

  • what a voice. among his peers and gets a standing o. i know most of the people in this crowd but who is the brunette beside lorrie morgan?

  • @denisjl100 Janie Fricke.

  • @ramey58 thank you. cmt made a big mistake when they changed their format. i used to listen all the time and it's where i first saw delbert mcklinton. anyway again thanks for your time.

  • the new artists and up and coming wish they had this much emotion in thier tiny little finger. They just don't make em' like this no more. Just brilliant! Gave me chills, even after 30 years.

  • TY RAYALLENJR FOR SHARING--YOU INDEED HAVE GOOD TASTE--JOHN

  • Hey SL my Nova Scotia baby, do you remember this?

  • just found out this year that im related to gene, my mothers name is patricia watson, my grandmas was pauline watson, mom told me that he was her 2nd cousin this year...and doc, and mother maybell and the carter sisters...they came to her house as a child and played songs by the old oil lanterns in the living room

  • These are country greats

  • Just want to say Thank You. Wouldn't you love to have been there? All the Greats

  • I have no musical knowledge or understanding of the mechanics of singing on key. But I always get the impression that all of those professionals listening to Gene know that they are hearing something very special.

Maybe it's because I love Gene's music so much that I think that.

  • One of the best,outstanding..

  • The guy that is all over Gene Watson is Larry Gatlin

  • Gene has always shown extraordinary taste in selecting what he records.

  • COUNTRY MUSIC IS THE BEST!! SO TRUE , SO REAL. THANKS FOR INTRODUCING THIS LOST SOUL BROTHER TO TRUE SOUL.

  • After a really rough day, it is indeed a pleasure to watch and listen to these greats. The love and respect is wonderful.

  • what a novel idea, someone singing and you can understand the words.

  • This is what I wanted to happy but he didn't want the same!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he is a superb singer

  • janie fricke, twice CMA female vocalist of the year, is the woman on gene's left

  • Great, Great Singer--could listen to him all night & usually do.

  • Oh great...I didn't know who that was on Gene's right either...thanks!!

  • larry gatlin sitting on his right side

  • @LeagueLumber64

On Gene's right side is Joe Stampley, Larry Gatlin is sitting on the front row beside Porter Wagoner on GENE's left

  • @GeneWatsonSongs I meant my right genes left sorry haha

  • @LeagueLumber64 left side

  • @LeagueLumber64 larry gatlin

  • @LeagueLumber64 not it"s joe stampley WHISKEY TALKING

  • @LeagueLumber64 larry gatlin is on the left side of him in front he's holding the mic with his right hand silly

  • @LeagueLumber64 It's on your right, not his. lol

  • I like to sing along to these videos but I just can't sing with Gene Watson, he is absolutely the most precise and talented vocalist I've ever heard..Gene to the Hall of Fame!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY GENE! 68 today.

  • @ramey58 Thank you! I didn't know Gene's age.

  • @GeneWatsonSongs is there an email or message board for the Hall of Fame to share our support for Gene Watson to get elected to Hall?

  • this song was sang at my grandfathers funeral back in 1979 . and when i hear this song i think back and tears fill my eyes . i truly miss you .

we are calling the CMA @ 615-244-2840, if anyone should be elected this time it should be Gene Watson , He has paid his dues and has remained the true country we love . Thanks and have a Blessed day

  • Big 10-4

  • @lzepp100 i believe that is janie frickie

  • @lzepp100 that's JANIE FRICKE

  • @lzepp100 janie fricky is the one

  • @lzepp100 janie frickey is the one on the left of him

  • @sirdevlon ONE of the greatest voices in country, yes, but NOT THE GREATEST! He has some pretty good company in there with him.

  • Just beautiful singing!

  • I tell ya, When Gene hits that high note " When Im Gone " near the end.

You better pay that man his money !!!!

  • Gene Watsonj is a great singer.I just love it to hear him sing.

  • Saw Gene Watson at the Country Music Inn, Lake County Il. what a show, right up there with George Jones and Vern Gosdin, deserves to be in the Hall of Fame

  • That's why it's a great song, a great performance. You FEEL it.

  • I listen to this song every chance I get. I love it and I love you Gene. I want this song at my Farewell Party...at my Homegoing. I will be glad that I can be in the hereafter with you, Larry Gatlin and others listening to wonderful songs. Maybe I could get you to sing "Bitter They Are" then too. I look forward to seeing you again.

  • This is the ONLY song Gene does that I don't like to hear. It makes me need to cry. Even if he does have a beautiful voice.

  • one of my favorites

  • Got discovered at Dance Town...Airline Drive.......Houston Texas...............hey Gene...how ya doing Bud?

  • @sirdevlon He's definitely high on the list no question about it.

  • im gonna sing this song at an up coming talent show

  • Janie Fricke and Lorrie Morgan , that's about as good as you can hope for as backup singers

  • I SAW HIM TWICE AT J AND J [ATHENS GA. ] , APP. LATE 70;S EARLY 80;S I REALLY ENJOYED HIM ,STILL DO.

  • GREAT!!!.

  • one of the last great country singers

  • Gene Watson's voice is getting better age. He is a great artist, fantastic singer, he deserves to inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He is long overdue.

  • I love this so much with so many of the great ones with Gene; all of them singing along. It's great. Love you Gene Watson, thanks for being on YouTube. xo m

  • Gene is simply the BEST! Amen

  • So I see Porter, who are some of the others?

  • Comment removed

  • @fpngan The ones I can see well enough to identify are Larry Gatlin, Joe Stampley, Janie Fricke, Lorrie Morgan, Barbara Fairchild, Ricky Van Shelton, B. J. Thomas, Waylon Jennings, Ferlin Husky, Bobby Bare, Roy Clark and Ralph Emery (the host of the show).

  • the GOVERNOR OF COUNTRY MUSIC.

  • Gene has great range and I like the quality in his voice.Awesome job and thanks for posting.

  • terrific live version of classic song. like most good country artists, he is a great live performer. thanks for this live version.

  • OMG what a classic!! I effin love it!!

  • this is one of the 'best' - always will be!!

  • he is one of the best !

  • @sirdevlon I do agree that Gene is near the top but im afraid that George Jones holds the top for me :)

  • One of the BEST COUNTRY SINGERS in the Past/Present/Furture country music.

  • Gene Watson is not only a great singer but a great person as well.

  • This a favorite of mine. Gene Watson is soooooooo nice and he sings with such sincere passion. Love you, Gene Watson

  • Gene Watson has the quality of a great country ballad singer. Almost none of the new singers can't even match the likes of Gene Watson, Ricky Van Shelton, Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Ray Price, Eddie Arnold, Sonny James to mention a few. Love you, Gene Watson

  • He is

  • this is probably one of the top 5 country songs ever... and the one that made watson famous...BUT..does anybody have the orignal verson..by little jimmy dickens ??

  • He is one of the Greatest..............He has come a long way from the life he once lived...

  • @MrAndrewsiii , what life did he once live? Just curious

  • Magnificent, understated live performance and am so happy and proud I've got to see him live. I will always treasure the memories. Thanks and appreciation to you and Gene for sharing!

  • Gene when I Finally get to see you Sing Live,I wont have to Pretend I Love You,as the words to this Song Say. I will Love You Forever ! Pat

  • Living in Paris and getting to play steel guitar with Gene's brothers and sister, I can say that they all are talented musicians and singers!

  • Savour these videos , we will never see the like of these performers ever again on mainstream country .

  • @pedalman u got that right, if anyone is 50 or over, they know what true country music is about. i was raised on , buck, sonny james, johnny cash, charlie pride etc, and even a lot of bluegrass........todays so called country music isnt..... a few good ole style singers. but for the most part its a shame our kids and grandkids will never know this awesome music

  • @alwayssme I was brought up on the same great country music , but looking through youtube there are still some bands doing true country and bluegrass, have a look at "the bluegrass brothers", one in particular called "Wait a minute".There are two or three versions the one that I like is on a big stage looks a bit orangey. A noisy audience keeps sounding off a train whistle to the annoyance of the bass player his look says it all. The young guy on mandolin is superb, sings well too on other vids.

  • there are a handfull of singers all the need is a six string box guitar and nothin else example gene watson johhnny paycheck daryle singletary

  • can someone tell me the name of the show they are on please

  • My kind of country music. Thank goodness for YouTube and downloads. Can't find anything this good on radio unless you have XM or can find a classic country station.

  • Oh Lord!! I'd give anything to be there with all the great stars!!!!

  • This is the best singer in country music, been following him for years.

  • Gene Watson as A voice which is outstanding

  • Great post thank you so much.. The only true country singers are George Jones and Scotty McCreery. I really hope Nashville will let him sing true country.

  • Just Great. Will ther ever in the future something like this.

  • @Densven1 nope

  • BEAUTIFUL!! SURE BRINGS BACK MEMORIES. LYNDA

  • What I love is how Larry Gatlin is so deeply into Gene's rendition of the song that he doesn't even bother joining in as some of the others did. He was clearly genuinely moved by the song. To me, that was the greatest compliment the singer could have gotten -- and coming from Larry Gatlin, yet!

  • What a great voice and song...makes you want to just play it over and over...as I have done.

  • great

  • @sirdevlon Out Fing stander :o) One of the greatest

  • My favorite. Love this & Gene does a great job. Love you Gene.

  • I will not argue,...he's got an Incredible Talent,....

  • You are correct sirdevlon!

  • Great song, done only by Gene. Any idea what year this was? There's a lot of great county talent singing with him that have left us. Great shot of Waylon! Thanks for posting.

  • that's why they call him the singer's singer

  • Genes Signature song never sounded better. I think at this point Gene was ill with cancer but he kept going despite doctors orders, and ever since then he is in remission, he sure had god on his side to keep him down here with us a little longer. He hits the high notes at the end as perfectly as he did when he first recorded this song

  • Join genewatsonfans.proboards,com

  • @sirdevlon Surely he is amongst them..........

  • love his voice

  • Sirdevlon...How right you are about Gene Watson! (Although I think after a certain degree of "greatness" one geatest voice is as great as another...and in this category to which Gene Watson belongs are also George Jones and Keith Whitely.

  • I have this recorded on DVD in my will, it will be played while they spread my ashes on my old dogs grave... he truly was my best friend.

  • Man would it be great to be setting in on a session like this !

  • I wish the comments here would be regarding Gene Watson and not Blake Shelton's family tree. Nobody gives a fucking rat's ass who Blake Shelton's father is. If people want to have this mindless bullshit debate, do it on Blake Shelton's videos if he has any. I do not know nor do I care who Blake Shelton is.

  • @sivlenora100 AMEN!

  • Ricky Van Shelton is not Blake Shelton's Father. Blake's father is Dick and a used car salesman. Also Blake is from OK where I know Ricky Van Shelton is from VA. I do not believe that Ricky and his wife Betty have children.

  • He Never Flinched,....arguably,.one of the Best Country Songs ever,...it Ranks in my top 3

  • One of the best country songs ever recorded by the best singer ever

  • wow !!! what a moving song !! he is the voice of a good tear jerking song .....love his music .. all singers do not put their feeling in a song .....greatest .. dove eyes tn ..
