@assbagandro Alex understands how to write melodic leads better than Gary, but Gary has written much better riffs. They're pretty close in speed so it's hard to say.
@believer06 Hammet is more melodic than Gary. Gary is cooler no doubt, and can write great riffs, a skill Kirk lacks. But Gary has never written a solo that was memorable all the way through, whereas Hammet has dozens of solos that you can remember practically every note to. They are different players. Metallica needed a melodic guy, not another riff creator or crazy fast player. I like Gary much more though.

There's no real evidence it'll even be a signature, he just said they're working on something together. Could just be a custom model or something that won't be available to the public :(

@EVIL80Z28 well, not to interrupt, but they do sound different, tonally, with the same gauge. drop A has more slack while D would be tight. you tend to get a fatter tone with the slack.
@richardthefish Scalloped Frets are like cheating for being able to play fast(er)...that's why Steve Vai's still acknowledged as the fastest guitarist alive, even though he was taught from the very beginning of his playing by Joe Satriani (as-in pluck the bottom string & say "this is an E-Note"), when Yngwie Malmsteen who plays TWICE as fast isn't given credit for it because if u look @ the Fender Yngwie J. Malmsteen Signature Stratocaster...the neck is FULLY Scalloped from 21st fret to 1st fret

@CreepingDeathSB I will admit he does have a few songs in BLS that I enjoy. Most of his acoustic work is fantastic and some of his slower songs are just great. But it seems like when he tries to shred or get metal it comes out really bad. I mean compared to Rhodes and Lee, Wylde has nothing on their song writing and soloing.
@69Thrasha69 Both guitarists are very good. Holt uses standard tuning and wyld tunes down 1/2 step, making it a bit easier to vibrato on the lower notes. That aside, both seem to have a wide vocabulary not limited to Pentatonics. It really comes down to who you like more really. Myself, I prefer Holt over Wyld.
@believer06 While I agree with most of this, I feel compelled to point out that Gary Holt actually plays in D standard and has been for quite some time. If I recall correctly, it's been this way ever since the Force of Habit album, though that's not to say you are entirely wrong considering standard was his tuning of choice before then.

@EVIL80Z28 well, not to interrupt, but they do sound different, tonally, with the same gauge. drop A has more slack while D would be tight. you tend to get a fatter tone with the slack.

@richardthefish Scalloped Frets are like cheating for being able to play fast(er)...that's why Steve Vai's still acknowledged as the fastest guitarist alive, even though he was taught from the very beginning of his playing by Joe Satriani (as-in pluck the bottom string & say "this is an E-Note"), when Yngwie Malmsteen who plays TWICE as fast isn't given credit for it because if u look @ the Fender Yngwie J. Malmsteen Signature Stratocaster...the neck is FULLY Scalloped from 21st fret to 1st fret

@CreepingDeathSB I will admit he does have a few songs in BLS that I enjoy. Most of his acoustic work is fantastic and some of his slower songs are just great. But it seems like when he tries to shred or get metal it comes out really bad. I mean compared to Rhodes and Lee, Wylde has nothing on their song writing and soloing.

@69Thrasha69 Both guitarists are very good. Holt uses standard tuning and wyld tunes down 1/2 step, making it a bit easier to vibrato on the lower notes. That aside, both seem to have a wide vocabulary not limited to Pentatonics. It really comes down to who you like more really. Myself, I prefer Holt over Wyld.

@believer06 While I agree with most of this, I feel compelled to point out that Gary Holt actually plays in D standard and has been for quite some time. If I recall correctly, it's been this way ever since the Force of Habit album, though that's not to say you are entirely wrong considering standard was his tuning of choice before then.
