Navi wasn't going to be in there at all. It was referring to a guide, someone to point the player in the right direction, and possibly, help the z target or whatever. Apparently, the bird/navi idea was trashed for the boat to be navi.

Just because there isn't a fairy in the zelda games, doesn't mean navi isn't in it. Midna, the hat in Minish cap, the boat; they're all navi.

@Zunlo That's why they called Navi Navi because it was a NAVIgator(Dunno if i spelled that right) the fairy was there to help you discover monsters know what items were and people etc. ;>
