i only like this cuz of the beat and the fighting to tha beat its a cool filming style that is often done the wrong way but i think this does it quite well.
yo i went to ithaca and saw this film at the senior thesis screening during my freshman year. i was blown away. AMAZING! i'm a huge fan. you guys made a really dope project. to be honest you even had a bit of an influence on me and my buddy's senior film "trash: the movie" check it out on my page. and keep up the good work. you guys working on anything new? keep me posted
That is a horseshoe moustache, not a handlebar moustache (which would generally only from from the upper lip and would have graspable extremities.) And the cartoon guy has a Fu Manchu. Awesome animation technique though!!!
The Japanese does NOT match the subtitles. All you have done is faked the Japanese dialogue and thrown your own subtitles over it. Didn't you think someone would eventually call you out on this?
Umm that's the point. Most of the film was assembled from other sources in honor of its HipHop driven soundtrack and style. The dialog was pulled out of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, which was the main influence behind Mitsurugi. This goes back to the concept of assemblage, which is the lifeblood of URBAN SHOGUN and of HipHop culture. Assemblage Art, if you're unfamiliar with it, is a term used to describe and categorize art that is generated from the sampling of found sources.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not impressed. Neither were any of my Japanese collegues. In fact, they were very confused. I would have been SUPER impressed if you would have used dialogue that matched even if piecemealed from a variety of sources. That would have been GREAT. But the wholesale use of material that was completely unrelated made it hard to follow. I understand sampling/Assemblage Art and think it works conceptually, but not in this case.
This is because you didn't understand the irony of the thing. The "koyoi kai" opening clearly shows that the filmakers have a (at least) minimal knowledge of Japanese, but all the rest being evidently random (at times willfully repeated) is exactly like saying "hey, you don't know Japanese, so I can tell 'your mom is a wore' and sell you a 'sun is raising above the heroes'. Get some dict and have some culture, you idiots!"
Is irony towards westerns "buying everything that just seems Japanese"...
PS Visually, I thought your piece was outstanding by the way. I don't want you think I am down on the whole piece. Far from it. But, in my opinion, the Japanese dialogue should have been 'real', and I would personally lose the batman reference and go for an original character of your own.
this movie is incredible, I've never seen anything like it. Starts a bit slow but is totally worth it in the end. The editing is on point! I hope you make more, you guys rock!!! "Suck it beeeeotch." hahahahaha
If I would be an ass for saying... we need another Urban Shogun video... then I'd be happy to be an ass.

This is a work of art.
I liked the happy face master. He could have so beaten the assassin's ass.
bad ass mixing, photography, effects, editing, and story line.
This should win and academy award or something.

I like the concept and the interactions but it was a little slow and the edits between the scenes need to be tighter. But overall, impressive.
