  • wow. This just shows that no matter what you do or ask of people they'll never be pleased or find some way to be pissed off at you. You asked them to please not get upset because this hung gar kata is being done in a kenpo manner and of course they ignore that and come here with all the so called knowledge of martial arts. All karate kata, which yes did come from China, is done in a way karate and kenpo way.

  • Interesting to see this Kenpo version of this famous Hung Gar kung fu form, cool.

  • Go look up fu hok or the tiger and crane form hung kuen because this is the worst piece of crap version I have ever seen

  • @artinmotion2003 lol, wow aren't you respectful

  • @artinmotion2003

i thought it was perfect. there are different versions of this kata, this is the most similar to the one that i was taught. go do tae kwon do, keyboard warrior

  • thats a nice kenpo version of the form :) nice that uve incorporated some movement into your art

  • I hear a lot of bs but, yes you can apply crane blows from overhead, to the st-12 acupoint, or dropping into the eye socket. the first will drop you for second or seal the breath, the second will damage the eye, It's not hung gar, but the form has been made to work for kenpo. hung gar was just a reformation of older material anyway, which came from stuff, which came from.. Ah you get it right??

  • Jon, while you and I have different versions of the form not one of them is more correct then the other. I love how people get on the internet and criticize and insult. Mr. Packer (RIP), my first instructor said, "The internet and phones have made heroes of us all." Truer words have never been spoken. As to your form, train hard my friend and I will too. Let us always be brothers in the art.

  • @ymerej5h that's a great quote! Thanks, bro. Happy training ehh :)

  • El tigre y la grulla de Hung gar, pero con muchos fallos. Se nota que son gente de Kenpo que han aprendido este kuen. Pero deja bastante que desear

  • Crane part is ridiculous because you will never use that at the angle and overhead like you guys do it. Sorry to tell you but it looks very sissy like. Learn the real tiger and crane I believe you would get more out of it. Or at least a great workout if done correctly

  • i am glad you placed your disclaimer otherwise the hung gar guys would be eating you alive. I think as bruce lee once said take what works for you and adapted to the situation. I am a 15year hung gar practitioner. The main problem I see with this is that other than going tru the motions your not gttting any benefit from this kata at all. You need emphasis power and think of the applications. Now the Crane part sorry to tell you but i have no other way of putting it, its ridiculous.

  • @race2max why don't you upload yourself doing the tiger crane hung gar kung fu. I wouldn't say that this guy isn't getting any benefit at all. It looks like a decent kenpo kata but there is a clear absence of power. After all he is adapting the Tiger Crane to the Kenpo system.

  • very pretty. i'm training this kata in Goshin right now, it is very rough on the hands and wrists if done properly. to do this kata correctly at this pace is very impressive also.

  • koglione

    BOMBAROLO ROTTO IN CULO

  • amy i ask what is the purpose of his is it for training

  • to me, it taught me to move more gracefully and more elegantly which I've used to help with grace and learning to harness energy like in Tai Chi, also it's helped me with my movement in acting, another passion of mine.

  • When doing Tiger-Crane slow down, especially when doing dynamic tension the key is to feel as if a force is pushing agianst your hand and you resit it by pushing it back. Also you need to work on your Se Ping Ma "Four Level Horse" I've studied Hung Gar for over 5yrs now and its an excellent art. I love the fact that kenpo has decided to use this form. In fact I started with kenpo before I met my taiji and Hung Gar Sifu's. Keep Practicing you'll get it.

  • nice job my instuctor is tryi8ng to teach me this now

  • Cont... In the same sense that Okinawan Karate was *inspired* by Chinese martial arts, but then molded to fit the cultural environment in which it grew. However, I do understand the frustration of the Hung Gar stylist who cringes at a form that bears the same name but only vaguely resembles their beloved Tiger/Crane. Regardless of the controversy, both forms express the techniques and values of the parent Arts, and when performed well, both express the essence of Martial Arts: balance.

    One Love

  • yeah, you are right. But I've been thinking lately and I think that the hung gar guys are right. I think the point of bringing in a foreign kata is to broaden your mind on someone else's art. Lately anyone else at the house of kenpo karate school has been learning the kata in truer hung gar fashion and I encourage that. I'm going to remove this video and replace it with someone doing it right when I can.

  • congratulations for the very nice video.could you please tell me the title of the soundtrack?

  • Ossu.

Wonderful performance. Everytime I watch the kenpo version of this form I hesitate to look at the comments because 9 times out of 10 there is some one talking about how terrible it is because it is not the original Hung Gar version. While I can understand their frustration, I think they would do just as well understanding that this version was *inspired* by the Hung Gar (or possibly Ng Ga) version, not copied from it. Cont...

  • Its weird to see a karate guy doing a hang kuen form. you can even see the tiger and crane movement. its good but if you ask a hung gar practitioner he doesn't have very good form a a good kung fu stance.

  • Beautiful rendition of Ed Parker's version of the kata, which is what the Tracy Bros. always promoted.

It is almost exactly as I remember learning it 35 years ago, although you perform it much more beautifully. It was a dance for my eyes, thank you.

  • let just say it's a kenpo tiger crane kata someone made up along the way....fair enough...all forms were made up at one point or another. in no way this can be called the traditional hung ga's tiger crane form.

  • To truley appriciate what this person is doing here you need to spend some time in a Kenpo school.

Though it is a Kata from a clasical form of Kung fu it is a great example of how Kenpo evolved borrowing from other systems over centuries & adapting to there needs & aplications. From A Kenpo perspective there is only one word to describe it AWSOME!

  • the kata is good

  • everytime he did the tiger claw parts or did somthing thats not like the original form, I just wanted to yell at him like my sifu did when I learned it. cheers mate

  • sounds like you had a jerky teacher :S

  • there is much controversy now over this kata...I think

  • That may just be it. Thanks.

  • I read the description. I only ask you learn this form properly, because the Kenpo version lacks the Tiger or the Crane in shape, intent, application, etc. Care to explain why that is? Why were the ten tigers and 8 cranes removed from the Tiger/Crane form? I'm sure all Hung Gar practitioners would like to know.

  • Hi nomamao,

I am also a Hung Gar practitioner and have wondered why the Kenpo Tiger and Crane is different than the Hung Gar form. I decided to research the topic and I think that I have found an answer. Jimmy Woo brought the Tiger Crane form to Kenpo according to Tracy Kenpo's site. It seems that Mr. Woo trained with Ark Wong of Ng Ga. I would say that, for as much of it is posted on youtube, it looks eerily like this version. The Kenpo version is actually Ng Ga and not Hung Gar. Just a theory

  • Check out Mr. Wong's grandson doing the opening sequence of the form by searching Ng Ga Tiger Crane on youtube.

  • since many of you Hung Gar practitioners are very sure about what you are talking about, I have emailed Grand master Al Tracy myself and asked him about your concerns. I would be happy to email you both myself when if he responds and let you know what he says. Thanks for your intrest.

  • I'd suggest you go to a Hung Gar school and relearn this form. It's called a tiger/crane form, yet I'm not sure if it's you or Kenpo that lost both along the way. The shape and power isn't there, from what I see. With all that said, this may very well be a great Kenpo display, and I respect your bravery in posting your form in public.

  • if you read the description, you'll see that I explained how it is done in a kenpo style, not a hung gar style. Sort of like "Kenpo does Tiger and crane" haha. But no, this kata is not traditional kenpo and we don't do it in the traditional hung gar way. If a hung gar student did a kenpo kata, I wouldn't expect them to do it like a kenpo martial artist would. I would expect that they take it and make it their own.

  • you should probobly read the video description.

  • lame comment there, oldtiger

  • agreed. You'rea fag oldtiger123

  • well, judgeing from your youtube profile and your lack of respect, I'm going to go ahead and say you probobly know absolutely nothing about kung fu or karate. Even if you do have some sort of belt, I can tell that you haven't learned anything, so thanks for your un-informative comment.

  • the video is well done, good editing, and the demonstration is quite impressive

  • Although this kata is derived from the Hung Gar Fu Hok Seung Ying Kuen it looks vaguely like the original. I think you performed the kata well, only none of the intention or aspects of the original Hung Gar form are present.

  • I love the Yoshida Brothers
