  • THSI VIDEO IS EPIC

  • I'll take the poor quality video because it's great and it's the thought that counts Cheers :)

  • Ben FKN' Shepherd

  • Very cool! Not only did he tear his larynx, he started smoking pretty heavy, too. That's why his voice didn't sound as strong, after Superunknown. Still, one of the best rock vocalists of all time!

  • Fucking drummer should get paid more than anyone.. he works harder than anyone else and he fucks up... the shows fucking over....:))))))))))

  • ENORMES.

  • @GHEE4345 Chris tore his larynx? Damn that sucks.

  • @GHEE4345 Chris tore his larynx?

  • Before I say this, know that I'm a heterosexual male.

Chris Cornell looks good as fuck here.

  • BOSS!!!

  • ugly truth is off of Louder than Love released in '89, a couple yrs before this performance. That album has songs in his higher register like this one here. I saw them a couple of times back then in Philly, Cornell ( and the whole band) were always on and killed it.

  • 5:26 sounds funny. lol.

Chris sounded like a drunk karaoke trying to scream. So you all know I'm not a hater. I personally love SG.

  • best band ever

  • I can tell he was sick or tired existed and thats why his voice sounds run down, But i saw Sound Garden live a year or so before this, they opened up for Skid Row(Half the stadium walked out after sound garden) and his voice sounded great just like the album and better. It was a Solid straight hour of non stop early sound Garden.Oh they so blew Skid row off the stage, ha ha ha

  • 4:48 - 5:20 BEST PART

  • just saw this live at Lolla 2010. SICK

  • Cornell was singing sick during this performance, a real fan can see past that.

  • Soundgarden isn't just a band... It's the way of life. Great song.

  • @George4815162342 Damn Right!!

  • I love these great songs that main stream doesn't know about.

  • The weirdness in his voice is mostly the wobbling of the obviously old VHS Tape...

  • I was here front and center when I was 12..best times!!

  • its funny how Chris has to squat down a little in order to sing but then again that's how he wanted it, it's his style!!!

best vocalist in this planet, no doubt!!!

  • Dear uploader,

    I love you.

  • ...any live music kicks ass over any studio recording...it's raw and the only reason they choose to be a band and play in the first place...if any band copy cats any other band in history....then they all copy Elvis and the Beatles....zip it....already...

  • @ 1:34 "A PENIS"

  • this is one of my favs if you were mine to give I might throw it away

  • that's how we liked it back in those days, kenny. rough & real. biggest rock upset since the beatles toppled elvis. these bands changed the rules.

  • wow, cc sounds like shit...and i don't know why he would wanna saddle himself with that guitar. it's alot easier to concentrate on singing without halving to play at the same time...

  • como me habría gustado estar ahí!!! son increibles! que se hayan vuelto a juntar es lo mejor del 2010!!!!

  • <3 the riff that starts at 6:17

  • i know its sick!!!

  • It sounds like can't hear his voice- Like the band was too loud or something. Maybe his ear piece or whatever wasn't working?

  • I think this was in the days that he didnt wear in-ear-montitors (my friend calls em that...) I know I was like, wow... but hey, its Soundgarden so who cares? Lol

  • pfffff.... Soundgarden are 100 times better than Sabbath.

  • fuckin A!

  • @Coldacre no way bro

you can prefer soundgarden from black sabbath, but even though they arent a copycat band from sabbath, just remember without them soundgarden wouldnt be soundgarden as you know it. so you must show some respect to heavy metal godfathers

  • NO COPY!!

    SOUNDGARDEN SOUND!!

  • cornell sang the first 2 lines like me.....hahahaha

  • thayil's better than every fuckin guitar psycho on this world

  • Yeah, you keep telling that to yourself.

  • er but he is definately one of the best in the world, one of the best ever!

  • Depends on who you catagorise as "psycho". But, his influence on, say, Adam Jones, was always apparent early on and straight away for those paying attention.

  • the cult is so much better

billy duffy is so much better guitar man que "tahjyill"

  • The Cult and Soundgarden are the two favourite bands from my youth. They toured Europe along with Pearl Jam back in 92 as well. Great times.

In truth, Soundgarden were always the greater artists. Early Cult stuff was massively influential on the alternative rock movement of the time though.

  • @ABTE67 first, both band have nothing to do and second, having a better guitarrist in your band is so definitive factor (anyway i dont know in which ways billy is better than thayil)

  • great one........this song turned me on to odd-time signatures when I was a kid. good performance too!

  • check out Mailman for odd time signatures

  • facepalm

  • why man....don't you think mailman is kinda odd...the chorus....I think I'm heading for the bottom

  • My bad I thought u were kidding...you were making it sound like superunknown is super-rare. (like, "dude, I know you've heard 'louder than love'--but check out 'black hole sun' for good soundgarden") I don't know maybe its just me...

And yeah, mailman does sound odd timed, tho in the chorus I think Matt Cameron just puts the accent in different places, making it sound odd-metered. Not to mention the turnarounds on the verse...

  • great century great bands

  • what a fukin awesome performance.....this is probably the first song of the night considering it takes half the song for Chris's voice to warm up.....he never warmed up before shows lol.....

  • ok thats why he sounds so terrible live

  • damn i dont know why...but i sure like poor video quality, and poor audio quality as well

  • Chris has such a great voice,,,awesome

  • what happened?

  • Kicks ass! Great show his voice was fucking amazing

  • EdarinoDasa your dumb as fuk no one sounds exactly like they do on the record unless its pop. he sounds good here, has nothing do do with range. maybe he chose to sing it a different way.

  • He was/is very hit and miss with is vocals. Maybe it was the lifestyle..

  • This is 4 years after the song came out, and his range was already shortening a little bit (but still awesome), and lump that in with the fact that everybody has a bad day at what they do, I would say this was just a bad day. But trust me, he could do well live.

  • if you were to ever play a show, you would understand how straining it gets on your voice to sing like that.

the badmotorfinger album was written with very demanding vocal parts.

of course, when he recorded the songs,

he didn't do them all in one take you fucking idiot.

they do them one at a time, when his voice is in best shape you fucking bastard.

and playing a show this big, he's obviously not gonna be as "good" sounding you dumb mother fucker.

    think before you speak.

  • @douchedouche123321 i think that stupid people will never understand the difference with studio and live recording. I dont think that this is a very difficult concept, but, i dont know why, some people couldnt understand that if is it.

  • @douchedouche123321 i just saw them live 2 days ago and it sounds like his voice is like a muscle..the more he works on it the stronger it gets..and his voice was better than ever then..and they played a 2n half hour show

  • You sir, fail at music.

  • chris is either amazing live or shitty

  • por eso se le chingaron las cuerdas vocales XD

  • In regards to your description, I've got a higher quality version of Lollapalooza 92 and I could try find a download link if you want it.

  • YES!!!!!

  • @FullMetalAngel182

Could you post a link please? I would much appreciate it, thanks.

  • it's rude voice that hurts

  • This song is ace. Shame about the sore throat.

  • Brilliant.

  • his voice is fucked up in this concert...he's probably losing sleep

  • i noticed that too. either that or just not proper warm ups and not proper vocal maintanence.

  • Awesome shit. Too bad Chris broke up 2 awesome bands and now he's doing Pop with Timbaland.

  • Chris problem was, is and will always be that he only wants to be famous.

The only thing he really didn't do with that intntion was TOTD.

Why would you think SG became so commercial at their end. Just because of Chris.

  • True true, whats TOTD?

  • Temple of the dog

  • you think down on the upside is commercial? they never gave in to any record label intentions, or so theyve said. One of the reasons you've gotta respect the band, they always did what they wanted. They also produced their final album themselves, another indication that theirs really nothing commercial about it

  • ok commercial wasn't the right word to use, but is was way to poppy,

Chris always wanted to be famous, after Black Hole Sun, which is in my opinion one of their weakest songs, the band knew with which kind of songs you get famous.

Chris wanted to keep that style, Kim was completly against this. That's been also the reason for the later split-up.

With commercial i meant more mainstream. I know, it's only my opinion, but i think alot of early Soundgarden appreciators agree with me.

  • Well you see what happens with that mentality, you can no longer keep up the ability to make music....compare Kim to Chris now....Chris is still releasing albums and all of them are great in their own reasons..and kim well..no one cares anymore. As much as people hate 'commercial', you gotta keep your band moving, the music business is BUSINESS and if you let go of your 'business' side..say goodbye to your career. Fans forget how much making money affects whether a band stays alive or not.

  • FINALLY! You hit the nail on the head. It's hilarious how many kids sitting in their parents' basements condemn adults making a living in a band because they "sell out" or write music that's more mainstream.

That's their damn job! Should they keep their integrity all the way to the local shelter when they lose their house?

  • That's the only two options; stardom or poverty?

  • plenty people care about kim and he does still make music btw on his own terms

  • @grungeera

Down on the Upside wasn't poppy at all....it was probably their most experimental album w/ their widest range of styles and sounds....u have no idea what u are talking about

  • If Chris wanted to be famous, he would have continued soundgarden. It'd be his best shot. He refuses to make new soundgarden cuz he doesn't want to run the risk of fuckin up an awesome discography.

  • You totally hit it..if soundgarden got back together itd be the same bumbling bullshit as every other comeback tour has been. Too many bands are doing this and they all shouldve learned from the beatles...or dave chappelle..say what you have to, then end it while youre still on top and will be remembered nostalgically. Smarter move creatively than just cashing in on this wave of comebacks. I wish other sg fans would stop sitting on their hands-just support cornell cause he's making out just fine

  • soundgarden did get back together for one night only earlier this year and played pretty well musically, although it was without chris cornell.

its on here search 'justice tour'. just dont expect any classic SG vocals....

  • fuck yea! takes me back!!!!

  • fukkin the best garden song

  • chris cornell was a hottie back then

  • okay this was their best album with their best songs. I had the cassette and drove around listening to it my Turismo in 1990.

  • Quite possibly my favorite Soundgarden song.

  • this is a masterpeice of a concert!

  • Lol 6:42 Chris sees lego men and ponys all around him! XDD

  • Props to Soundgarden for changing it up at 6:18. To digress - adding Ben Shepard in the mix ultimately gave them the boost the needed at the time; he fucking rocked the house! Jason Everman sucked (how does one man get kicked out of Nirvana and Soundgarden?) but props to Hiro, he did rock also.

  • we must remember on the album he's not just singing, he's shrieking! the only singer along with Plant to pull this miraculous feat off! not an easy thing to do night after night!

  • cornellio!

  • EPIC! Yes, his singing starts out rough, but he hits most of the notes once the song gets going.

  • Well everyone can have a bad day.. I still love his vocals one this once though! Something about it makes me like it even though it sounds like he just woke up XD

  • Ben was like the quiet mothafucker like the less popular one...others have big name like but ben...you like wtf is a ben sheppard!?!?! But his stage appearance is sooooo awesome...he looks like he came from Type o negative or Danzig ahah his sooo stoned...and chrises voice makes me want to smack my mother...it kinda sucked here!

  • Who could sing this song other than Chris? Great~

  • Well, unfortunately, around Superunknown, he blew out his voice, since he never had a real vocal training.

He's still a great entertainer, to be able to last about 2 hours singing within his entire catalog (SG, TOTD, AS, solos), is commendable.

  • Ive commented on that too and I get alot of angry emails. But its true he tends to blow his voice often.

  • please I wanna be Like Kim...

    Like this whole band...

  • Chris' voice was changing at the time. Big difference between Louder Than Love and Badmotorfinger. One's voice can only last as long, unlike any other instrument.

  • Some instruments get better with age, like a Stradivarius violin.

  • for all of those saying Chris can't sing, watch Motorvision. It will knock your fucking teeth out.

  • Tired? Drunk?

  • kim thayil is the man

  • Agreed!!!

  • I don't know about some of these posters, they sound fucking "perfect" to me.Bad-Ass MoFo's~~~!

  • Oh god if their is anyone reading my coments. fuck off.

  • OK.

  • I think some one broke him. punk rock mixed with hevy metal. Grunde. Now go away.

  • i think all the pot smoke was fucking up his voice.

  • back to the clean form, back to the pure form (Pearl jam - Wash)

this was magic, and we want it back!

    peace

  • the drummer kick ass

  • he made me wana drum in the mid 90s im happy you like him

  • Just an off day.

    He's still a brilliant vocalist.

    I'd kill for that voice.

  • Windows

  • Matt Cameron is one of the best drummers around the fuckin' world

  • Thayil = Guitar GOD

  • an off vocal day

  • @kushisaac he was sick

  • Simply amazing!

  • GOD

  • hahaha, chris thinks he's underwater at 6:40

    :D

  • hahaha yea i thought the same:D

  • This is how he used to sing for Louder Than Love.

He changed the way he hit higher notes for Badmotorfinger.

But his voice does seem a little thicker than normal here. It sounds too screamy. . . too gargled, I guess.

Those higher notes at 3:05 sound great though.

  • there's absolutely NO delay or reverb what you normally hear in his mix...that's why it sounds the way it does...the people who mixed this SUCK!!!

  • He's been gargling beer?

  • This is the song that got me into Soundgarden all those years ago. It's one of their trippiest and darkest with fantastic layering of guitars on the record. Great to see a rare live rendition. Through this band I discovered loads of other great stuff of the S.S.T. era like Black Flag, Bad Brains & Screaming Trees. By the time I was a deep fried psych pop fiend I'd forgotten all about the metal guys. They were the last listenable band of the genre for me.

  • the ugly truth is the reality, lol.

  • Saw them at Lollapalooza '92 in Saratoga Springs. Great show with Pearl Jam, Ministry, Chili Peppers...etc. THE best concert I've ever been to. Too bad both new Woodstock concerts ruined concerts like this with all the probs. Not any like it around anymor IMO.

  • I can't remember if it rained. I can't remember if the sun shined. But I do know that I was there and STILL can't remember how I got home.

  • Ben's all fucked up, but yeah cool song and a great performance.

*Check Loose Ground for some new Rock/Grunge*

  • They're supposed to be stoned,that's "Rock & Roll"

  • Quite possibly my favourite Soundgarden song, haven't seen/heard it live before, great stuff!

  • his voice is just perferct...maybe not the first seconds, but he totally rockss

  • You can tell he's sick or has a sore throat.

  • guys do you think cornell lost his voice quality because of singing like this fucking wild for so long? i believe so

  • yeah in the beginning of the song espescially. he sounded awful. he must have had a throat problem that day becuz hes always screaming

  • that was the way he used to sing before badmotorfinger

  • he came clean on some badmotorfinger traks but your right this was before the chris cornell machine.

  • HIs voice sounds bad that its awesome! Only Chris could do that and maybe cobain.

  • Gwen, thank you so much for this!

i can't stop watching this video, it's been months. This is to anyone interested in discussing all things SOUNDGARDEN, I'd love to get some mails.

  • Gwen thanks for all these great videos you uploaded, please put more of this show.

  • my fav soundgarden song. great post

  • man ben shepard really plays his bass really low its like a foot below his waist

  • Thats because Ben is a beast!

  • he's actually a carrot, believe it or not

  • ajaj arranca con un garzo en la garganta, despues mejora totalmente su registro vocal, tremendo tema de louder than love

  • that is a rare voice, best band ever

  • awesome song!kick ass!

  • of the, literally, thousands of extremely talented drummers in the world, matt cameron ranks top ten...power trip (off of this album) ranks, in my opinion, as his highest achievement

  • yeah he is awesome

  • se ve que cuando era masx pendejo tenia la voz mas de pito..en el 92 ya estaba mas maduyra :P

  • the chord progression at 6:17 is amazing.. different from the studio version i love it.

  • what a rare breed you are my friend...a true lover of music...

  • killer song!

post more of this show soon!

    cheersss

  • It took a little bit before Chris' vocal chords warmed up. But once that happened, there was no stopping this song.

By the way, considering the outstanding quality of the audio, the video resolution is more than acceptable. Excellent post.

  • His voice was awesome on that record and bad motorfinger. When I saw them on badmotorfinger he was amazing. Not to mention the whole band!
