@FXVG I have a partial update: So, although this may be a one off, my iPod wiped itself last night of all its songs... it's not bad cause I can just put the songs on again (it didn't crash or anything just wiped the songs). So this is just a warning, you may damage your iPod doing this, I'd suggest only using this if you aren't really bothered by this sort of thing.

I was about to give up with trying and that sad face was keeping on showing up for me....until I saw this video and I was 99.99% believe that its a jerky way to play games with us..... but guess what ? when that sad face show up.... I just hit my classic 30gb while pressing the the the hard reset (menu + Center bottom) then (menu + play/pause) ...at this time Sad face show off...and start to hit it 3 to 4 times....(not the hit that could damage it) and It WORKED ! My Classic iPod got this stupid sad Face of Death like 3 years ago, after weeks of failed attempts of fixing it I just finally said screw it and threw the iPod in a drawer. About 15 minutes ago I found it again (I had lost my Nano and found the Classic while looking for the missing iPod) and thought "Maybe someone figured it out." Followed the video, and BAM! My iPod Classic working again. Also, while dropping the Classic on the floor..I found my Nano. You're my new best friend.

I was trying this and my mom saw me and told me if im going to break something break it good so she grabbed it and threw as hard as she could against the wall she made a hole in it and i told i was trying to fix it then she tells me how would something be fixed by hitting it and i told her its Mexican style then she called me stupid and called someone to repair the wall. anyway it WORKED thanks and now there is proof that hitting something to fix it works.

If the ipod keeps going to the sad face or it keeps freezing randomly when doing this, just let the ipod run through the songs for a couple of hours, this causes the hardrive to start running smoothly for not being ran after a couple of years/ also if this stuff doesnt work trying running some diagnostics by holding the left and center button

this is merely a temporary fix, if its a hard drive problem the hard drive will eventually have to be replaced or repaired
