Nice video--Maybe you could start a weekly segment about various armies in various games even. It's useful to know how all armies can work so you can defend yourself properly etc. Maybe call it something like "Tactics with Shawn" I dunno, just a thought--rock on
I have an idea you could try for painting your studio nid army. Look up dead space. Try to do some sort of a fleshy red exoskeleton/skin with a brownish carapace. Just and idea. The thing I've noticed about nids is people seem to paint them too colorful. Look at the concept art and compare that to someone's nid army. The art looks much more scary. >:D
Hi Shawn, I loved this vid (prob because i love Tyranids), it nice to see what you think about the units, keep up the great work. I hope i smell a tyranid battle report cooking. Iv seen the tyranofex models you guys have made, do you ever feel like the look of the conversion should match which weapon it gets?
i.e.
Acid Sprey fex looks like a giant pyrovore
Rupture Cannon fex looks like a giant hive guard with a big Spike Cannon
Flesh Borere fex looks like a giant termagaunt with a big Devourer
I have never talked with you, but please accept my sincere Thank you's to you for entertaining us, making us laugh, providing information, providing a great service to the people that either don't have the time, the patience or the will to paint their own armies.
I have been watching your channel for a few years now and appreciate your enthusiasm and effort you put forward.
Istill don't like tyranids much though, because the way they build, there is no room for big swarms anymore. You have to have hive guard and synapse creatures (which now are all very expensive, or extremely fragile) and it just took the enjoyment of tyranids away for me.
Also the fact that there are no frag grenades is a ridiculous hindrance to a CC army that used to be known for being extremely dangerous in terrain.
Also Gargoyle wings are too small for warrior bodies.
GW will only revive the Lictor to boost sales, once they put out a plastic kit to launch a far in the future codex. Until then, more profitable units will be premiered.
love my nid army i field 120 genestealers because i can with a brood lord in each unit, doom in spore 3 lictors 3 zoanthrope 3 hive guard hive tyrant with guard and two primes. lots of fun to play when you grab some carnifex or biovores.
The Mawloc do suck if you play it like a Trygon, but don't do that!
The special rule "Burrow" allows it to burrow in one round and automatically deep-strike the next. Never put it in reserve, just burrow in round one.
They pop up with the large blast, S6 AP2, and if the surviving enemy charges, it has Hit and Run.
I would love to try a 3 Mawloc list, imagine 3 of those pop up in for say a IG or Tau deployment zone every other round. With T6 and W6 they can take a lot of fire as your army advance
If you'd like a suggestion watch some games and possibly a vlog from matt from miniwargaming thats his 40k army and all the batreps ive watched he has done very good with them
My Friend seems to be a Huge fan of Raveners, and Rippers with Toxic Sacks and saddly I watch my Night Bringer be takin down by those little suckers and hardly take them out after his death. Not sure if Raveners can have Toxic Sacks but he doesnt have them on his, He also runs with a Trygon, mainly using it to get his Raveners out close enough to ranged troops.
Doom is not broken because it doesnt work against units in vehicles. And everyone rolls around in vehicles these days. Also i do believe you get cover saves against its attack, as per faq.
@bluetablepainting also what balances the doom out a lot is its T4, so there is a lot of stuff that can ID it if it gets through the invuln save. While its invuln save is impressive don't get me wrong, you have 5 or 6 S8 shots coming at you and your pretty boned unless your lucky.
@miccmiccmicc also its just too random to be relyed on, you need to take him in a pod, so 1st you might not get him till turn 5, then you need to not scatter, then they need to fail the test then they need to fail saves (cover invuls etc) tbh id rather have 2 (almost 3) hive guard for the cost more reliable and does more damage tbh!
gray knights are the crux of nids (and well every army buts nids for sure) because of the force weapons and psycannons, cos almost all nids have to invul saves so all the big griblys will be force weaponed and small / mid size nids are shreaded by shooting :(
@Vehementi The best thing about Ripper Swarms, is that everyone ignores them, preferring to attack the bigger stuff, so it's pretty likely you'll get them into CC without any wounds. Also, give 'em spinefists. Seriously, you'll be surprised how well Rippers do.
@makooma I wouldn't take Warriors, though, they're far too easy to kill. If it gave them FNP, or an Inv save, then yeah, but Warriors are far too easy to kill.
Nah, you wanna attach him to a unit of Hive Guard and a Hive Tyrant.
If you have 2 or more large units of Genestealers, and use outflank,l then it forges your opponent to deploy right in the middle of the board, all hunched up. 'Cause no one wants to get assaulted by Genestealers as soon as they come on the board.
Also, add Hive Guard and a Tyranid Prime to a Hive Tyrant or Swarm Lord, and you can play with wounds like plasticine, and keep your tyrant alive amazingly well.
Good vid long live the hive I use tyranids myself love them :)

Lictors aren't so bad. They're great against Dark Eldar Raiders, because of the Flesh Hooks 6" range, the Night Shields don't work against them =)

I'd love to see swarms of orcs and nids, Two horde armies battling it out in that Junkyard terrain you had, would be awesome.

Spore mines useless against Tau if he keeps the troops in reserve and uses a special commander upgrade to call one group at the time on a 2+

Carnifex SQUADRONS?!?!?! Thats terrifying! So. Many. Wounds.....
Blastroid9 5 months ago
@Blastroid9 Yeah a naked unit of two costs a mere 320 points, suddenly those 8 wounds seem laugable.

pyrovores?...aren't they one of the worst units in that book?
To me they're like an assault heavy flamer with crappy CC abilities.(remind me of my TL-Flamer crysis suits)
There's just so many better buys in that Elites section.
But if you're willing to give them a try...good luck! (you'll need it XD)

Tyranids droped if favor for their inability to deal with mech armys at range greater then 18". Just how it's gone around where I've played.

The mychetic spores sre very great because i give your tyranids the first strike to attack but if you go aginst grey knights DONT

Lictors are fantastic tank hunters, maybe not as good as hive guard for elite choices, but hive guard can't pop up anywhere on the map.

Gargoyles are amazing.
Not quite flying termagants, though, 'cause you can't give 'em devourers. If you could, they'd be unstoppable. They'd kill everything.
Also, don't underestimate Ripper Swarms.

God, the dex has so many options. The ability to switch from horde to NidZilla just cannot be denied.
Also, don't forget about the Zoanthropes offensive powers. AP1 Lance the Land Raider one turn, then pie plate what comes out the next? Awesome.
