"You can't forget it's all about playing music, it's not about what you can (John makes tapping's gesture) show people that you can do with a piece of wood in your hand". EPIC!!

  • holy fuck fig 9!! he have to do a song with that its a fucking genius!!

  • 3:09 he's soooo nonchalant, especially after playing one of the most melodic riffs i've ever heard, and it was improvised as well

  • would be good to substitute in Castilian would be very good please thanks

  • Voodoo Chile lick at 7:16

  • Tabs for fig. 6 please?

  • FIGURE 9 :O

  • If you recorded this guy improvising for an hour, you'd probably have enough material to make a decent album with! what a beast of guitar player, i don't think he even realises how unique that level of talent is.

  • Tabs for fig. 9 please?

  • want tabs for fig 9 =(

  • this video of him... cast him in a new light for me. not very good. shockingly

  • @permian11 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Would love to see more videos from him like this. :)

  • sit there and have fun with yourself LOLZ

  • from 1: 59 to 2:09 is the most emotional guitar playing i've ever heard.

  • @TheTwicey haha seriously? come on that has to be a joke

  • @permian11 why? I think it's beautiful.. Are you negative about my musical feelings or John's playing?

  • @TheTwicey it's just nothing particularly stand out. Your opinion is your opinion though.

  • @permian11 ok , thanks

    lovim!

  • "You can't forget that's all about playing music. It's not about what you can show people that you can do with a piece of wood in your hands that has strings on it. The idea is to make sounds that are good, and in music thats really so much about the relationships between the different things." -John Frusciante 3:18

  • I made video response with cover of Fig.7, also wrote tabs if anyone wants to learn it go for it :))

  • lol have fun with youself

  • JUST GOOGLE JOHN FRUSCIANTE FIG 8 (OR 9) - Thumb this up yo !

  • is he using a wah pedal at all throughout the video? It sounds like he is in figure 11 and maybe 12 but I'm not really sure.

    Can anyone help me out?

  • I can't even imagine how godly it would have been to see John jam with Jimi Hendrix. People's heads would explode

  • Obviously nobody knows anything about Josh Klinghoffer the dude worked with John and John didn't pick just anybody to collaborate with him. Josh is gonna be a good replacement he's actually very creative so shutup about something you clearly don't know about the guy...

  • Hey guys, can anybody tell me the name from the song in Fig. 9 please?

    Bless up ;)

or some Tabs ;) or a link with Tabs ;D

  • @xxgoettlichxx prettty sure its improv, you could totally just listen then try to play it though, it doesnt look to challenging, the name of the song to me is angels making love

  • @Damien91192293 Yeah, I think you're pretty right about that. Love this.

  • @xxgoettlichxx hey have you found the song or tabs for figure 9? thanks :)

  • Hey guys, can anybody tell me the name from the song in Fig. 9 please?

    Bless up ;)

  • @xxgoettlichxx It sounds a bit similar to Untitled #2 from his Niandra Ladies and Usually Just a T Shirt solo album. It's probably because of the technique he uses, but a few of the notes sound alike.

  • what is name of the song that he used fig 7. from this video ???

  • You know, i see alot of kids on guitar center playing there usual avenge seven fold licks and the kids who just learned their first metallica song, and i think to myself, am i the only one who likes to play melodic, i think being able to play in a melodic is far much superior than playing in a "shredder" way people who like the shredder stuff are usually just guitarist themselfs, your able to add another dimension to your playing if you play fast but pretty to me is more preferable...

  • @Emceetem metallica has melodic solos so does that shitty band called avenged... but it's just another feeling to the music frusciantes rocks :)

  • @dnnysrock That's why they are my favorite band and my favorite shredder is buckethead because of that melodic dimension he has(if you don't know him look him up).

I think alot of guitarist could learn something from john melodicness.

    GOD I HATE HIS CHORDS!

    >:O

  • @Emceetem why? lol

he's a funy version of hendrix . but he's not jsut that i know .

i can't play exactly ike him cause i have very small fingers but i'm sure you can it isn't that hard

  • @dnnysrock

I can't use my thumb for shit, i just started to learn now, and it's hard... in can't stop i end uo using my index to mute across the strings instead of using th thumb.

    :(

  • i see frusciante playing and i see the 70% of my influences

  • @MrNirvanerd Anyway helped me a lot in response.

    Thank you.

  • "I don't want to be straight in any way" ;)

  • is there anywhere you can get the tabs for figure 8 and 9

  • @bendeebz Ultimate Guitar has it as "figure 9 by frusciante... just google it.

  • @Helios374 it was a freakin funk band with hillel they were just funkin'

  • Please.

Could someone tell me the name of the technique he uses at 8:01 until 8:10?

    Thank you.

  • @lepenarco Kk, Basically he is using the pentatonic on one string; so for example your fingers are on high e string with your hand on the '5th' (pointer finger), '7th' (middle finger) and '8th' (pinky finger) and pulling off. (Im not sure what it's called though).

  • John kicks my ass.

  • @adamwood0808 the peppers aint peppers WITH hillel, their style back then wasnt for the mass like it is now and they wouldnt have become such a great badn

  • @adamwood0808 Amen broski.

  • O_O WOW!

  • john frusciante is probably a descendant of jimi hendrix and jimmy page..

  • does any one know fig 8 tab? pleaseee xxx

  • I learned more things in eight minutes of video than a month in my guitar lessons, it is not the fastest in the world or the more technical but his style, his music is unique, he only need a note to drive me crazy

  • Fig. 9 is fucking AWESOME. He makes it up at the spot!

  • @jumpyourbone Oh, wow! I never knew that

  • ew....he sounds awful.

  • @charcharism

    eww you're a dumbass

  • @jumpyourbone He wears dentures?

  • @PirateHunterX2

yeah, he got all of his teeth removed after a near-fatal, drug-related oral infection of some sort, and now wears dentures

  • @jumpyourbone Correction. He USED to wear dentures after having all his teeth removed due to the fact he didn't brush his teeth for the whole 6 years he was on Heroin. He wore them for a couple of years during the Californication tour, but after the band started doing really well they paid for him to have false teeth surgically implanted into his gums, thats how come they look so good and his voice is back to normal. One of my sources is the Kiedis Autobiog. Others are interviews with John etc..

  • What's fig.8 tab??

  • despite the fact that hes totally celibate, wayy older than me, and wears dentures, i still think hes like the sexiest thing ever

  • @jumpyourbone Not one of the things you said was true. Except for the sexiosity of course.

  • @thebigbadjohnsmith

well apparently they're not actually dentures (anymore), they're false teeth. but he is celibate as far as i know and he's definitely older than me. and very sexy :)

  • @jumpyourbone He wears dentures?

  • @MikeTheGuy00 yes, beacause of an oral disease,

he got while his drug career. At least thats what ive heard.

But i dont care anyway. its his thing. Guitarplaying

has nothing to do with teeth.

  • @Ayralis Ahh i see. Crazy.

  • @jumpyourbone he doesnt wear dentures, he got all of his teeth replaced

  • @jumpyourbone

You can jump my bone any time you like..

  • @jumpyourbone John is celibate now?

  • great idea....it's not about what you can do with peace of wood in your hand

  • Profound wisdom.

  • hendrix lick @2:18 !!!!

  • John doesn't play the guitar, he makes it sing. I would give my brother's soul for half of John's talent.

  • figure 8 = eargasm

  • just amazing from 2.44 to 3.10 also solo at the end amazing!!!!

  • treble 4, mid 7, bass 9, presence 7

  • the red hot chili peppers have had multiple people before john, the members not are not the original members idiot bitch

  • what is he playing during the 2 note invention part/fig 8?

  • @Mf1088 f#m, C#m, Dmaj, Amaj,

  • This guy is just a true guitar player, completely inspirational. Nothing else to add.

  • its like 2 things instead of one things

  • can anyone tell me the tab for figure 8 & 9 because i am a fairly new guitarist and i thought this sounded amazing and would like to try it myself. thanks

  • @braveheart1996 fig8 is tabbed, ultimate guitar,

  • @kurtludwig1 oh thank you man i completely forgot about this. thanks for the help

  • @braveheart1996 fig 8 is on it. But it isnt that difficult to just see what he is playing. I would recommend to just try it out, that makes it more fun that learn it from a tab.

  • @barcalars yea for sure man thats what i did and it was pretty cool to get that feeling of satisfaction of learning the song

  • When you go see em live, just pretend it's John up there. Hopefully this is not the last of John and the red hots playing together.

  • I disagree theirs no replacement for john. And the best thing about John is how he carried RHCP with Flea... and his solo work is legendary. I think he put up with Anthony for a long time and now Johns probly saying "I might as well have complete creative control instead of abiding anthonys lame style....

  • Hey does anyone know what John's amp settings are? I mean, his GENERAL funky amp settings, I know his tone changes a lot, but does anyone know his GENERAL funky amp settings? Thanks! :D

  • @huruhara123 i saw a close of of his amp and the settings were Bass: 8 Mid: 7 Treble: 2 and Presence: 7

  • im trying to adopt this behaviour aswell .

  • im trying to adopt this behaviour aswell .

  • john is my favorite guitarist because he does not put pressure on his art he does not care if he mess up or what ever , he think that musik should be something free . thats why he is great.

  • For those people who thinkthat guitar and music in general is about showing off and playing as fast and as many notes as you possibly can, then you are sadly mistaken and screw you... Music is about expressing your emotions and about how you feel and not only about showing off and playing millions of notes... John is great because of how he expresses his emotions on the guitar and you can obviously see that he's into the music and not just showing off.... He's a true musician!!

  • @TheGuitarscale not only that but John is a musical genious a true legend of our time!

  • your right this is why RHCP have been so successful after all these years

  • Very true John.."It's all about music, it's not about what you can do with the piece of wood in you hands." I hate guitar enthusiasts when they compare the style of one to another. Its not all about how fast can you go playing guitar or how high your voice can reach but how you make a sound that will stick into people's minds. Just like how RHCP have done.

  • he does it in scar tissue as well as road trippin' and many others

  • From which song is this two note invention part?

  • I laughed at his mouth at around 6:40 :'D What feeling

  • 0:4- 0:37 Is soooo epic

  • how does he get the sound of the two-note invention part? is it an effect, or vibrato from his fingers??

  • It's definitely a bit of finger vibrato, I think it has more to do with his set-up. Vintage Strat and tube Marshall. He's a tone master.

  • soulfull

  • "liamscokedealer" u idiot john frusciante is one of the greatest guitarrist ever in case u didnt know, there may be better guitarrist on the planet but no one fits rhcp better than john not even josh

  • learn to speak english

  • Josh is a good replacement for John, but only for the studio recording of the album. The best thing about John was his soloing at the concerts, and I think that Josh won't be able to do that, he's just not as creative as John.

  • @kyod12 John not in the band anymore???? I wish my strat was all busted and old like his..

  • @Funkatronical

nope.. he was replaced by his friend Josh Klinghoffer. and now John is focusing on his solo career ;) oh, and about that strat, there are companies that can wreck your guitar profesionally, so if you you want your guitar to look old just pay for it ;)

  • @kyod12 With respect, how do you know he won't be 'as creative' as John on stage? Nobody's seen him let rip on a solo in the new setup yet, with the Neil Young cover as the only exception. John was a force of nature, no doubt - but don't pre-judge Josh. I think people need to stop trying to second guess an obviously talented musician and wait for the record to come out & the live shows to start. The proof of the pudding is in the eating thereof, lol. It'll be different, but so what?

  • @thebigbadjohnsmith What if people don't want to see Josh? I mean, he's probably the best replacement for John, but I don't want a replacement, so I'm going to judge him. I'm sure that many other people feel the same. I want to see John again.

  • @TheChippyRick Tough shit. Grow up. He's not in the band anymore because he's bored with it.

    Accept it.

Also, its not as if he's died yet! Have you pursued any other avenues of his musical output? The Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Quartet, Ataxia, Swahili Blonde, the latest solo album 'The Empyrean'?

I'm a massive fan, I wouldn't be commenting on this vid if I wasn't, but that was childish whining. Fancy pre-judging Josh just because you like John (who is still making music!), give the guys a break

  • @thebigbadjohnsmith Maybe if I was a fan of Ataxia and that guy from the MArs Volta, I wouldn't care so much. I think you need to stop preaching to people saying "give him a chance" when we know he's good. JOSH IS GOOD. I wouldn't care if he was better than Frusciante. I want Froosh. And growing up has nothing to do with it. Who even says I have to accept it? What? Why do you think I was a Pepper fan in the first place? It sure as hell wasn't so that I could explore Frusciantes experimental side

  • @thebigbadjohnsmith Just because you have a great guitarist to replace John, doesn't mean he would fit in the band. I listen to Josh K's stuff, and then listen to a song like "Hump de Bump". There's little chance this album will turn out well. I really want it to. But at the same time, I grew up with JOHN. He's the greatest guitarist of the last 30 years. Just ask ultimate-guitar. His abilities are miles ahead of Josh's. It's not childish to want your favorite guitarist in your favorite band.

  • @RobertRocknrollyeah Are you joking? How much Frusciante have YOU heard?

  • @RobertRocknrollyeah Did you even watch this video in its entirety?

  • @kyod12 I don't think you know Josh's capabilities at all.

  • @okamasphere Actually, you are probably right... And the fact is that nobody does know them. So why don't everyone quiet down, and try to figure it out ?

  • woooow the Fig. 9 is amazingg pleanty of soul.....

  • Comment removed

  • I agree dave navaro is amazing (i assume thats hu ur talking bout) and one hot minute is in fact my favourite chilis album. But John is still an amazing guitarist, hes more spacey, as dave is more funky and i think both players made the chilis sound different and they were both amazing. You can't really compare different styles of guitarists. Its like retards who try and compare Bucket Head And Slash, its just stupid, they are completely different in style and approach to the guitar.

  • Dave Navarro said at the beginning of One Hot Minute that he's not really a funk guitarist... But he was able to learn pretty well. One good example of this is Walkabout.

  • @liamscokedealer OK so tell me how John is a hack?? how is he boring? have you ever seen or heard them live? If in fact he is the most embarrassingly boring soloist u have ever seen live, then you have not seen anything good live or most likely are retarded.... go fuck yourself and when your done go fuck your mother u poser

  • its not about who is better, but john flea chad and anthony are the red hot chili peppers, theyve made all the successes together, theyve been through it all, i think there is no decent replacement for john, because i think the band fitted so well, if one of them leaves, the band will never be the same, i would also said this if flea had left the band, or chad, john is my favorite guitarist, he made me play guitar, and i really left a tear when i heard he left the band..

  • i loved fig 9 :D

  • nice,wanna learn more frm u john

  • This whole video is like a dissertation on Hendrix guitar style (the parts about him). THe way its like more than one part of the song being played on on fret board. Then if you listen to the end of this one its a good chunk quoting hendrix or just you can see the influence.

Imagine a master class with this guy. Would be just awesome for your guitar learning.

  • i have to disagree. I think Dave Navarro was a fantastic Chili Pepper and I wouldn't be against him rejoining the band. Although I know that's never going to happen.

  • at 7:47 i lost contact with the world LOL

  • hmm ....he quit in 1992 and OHM was released in 1995

  • he quit the band a year ago and the Chili Peppers are still interested in continuing as a band. It should be interesting to see how it will unfold.

  • There was this fucking dude who told me that the Chili Peppers are nowhere close to the Beatles HE WAS WRONGGGGGGGG

  • "Bend the fabric of reality" what a legend. I think this man is the best guitarist on earth because he plays with his heart not just his hands - hes a legend!

  • what is a " TWO-NOTE INVENTIONS" ? can anybody explain me ?

  • means inventions with two notes.

  • 7:59-8:10

    His fingers are like...dancing :D

  • john you are a fukin god

    i love you man

    no homo..

  • what is the that melody on fig. 8 ??? is that song or just another improvisation of him????

  • 7:36

  • what sort of Marshall amp does he use ? ( sorry i'm french i don't speak english very well)

  • You speak English better than half of the English people on here, you actually used well instead of good. I'm proud.

  • Thank you ,do you know what sort of amp he uses ?

  • Im sorry I do not know, I have no idea.

  • Direct copy from the uberaudio site (probably as reliable as anything you find on the web):

    - Marshall Silver Jubilee 100W for his "crunch" channel

-Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Series 100W Tube Head

    - 200W Marshall Major (clean sound) (KT 88 tubes)

  • Wow ^^ , Relly amazing and Expansive xD , Thank you man

  • 2:44-3:08 amaizing!!....John is genius!

  • the two note invention thing sounds so beautiful

  • Well bent

  • what album is he talking about?

    shadows collide with people?

  • stadium arcadium

  • nah, he's talking about "Niandra Lades & Usually just a t-shirt" his first solo album; released in 1994

  • aghhh i love fig . 9

  • Which album is he referring to?
