Longbows just look cool. They're also REALLY dangerous if the longbow is old and you don't know how to use it. It'll snap, and the splints will slice into you.

Yeah, it is Japanese. I don't know anything about them. I guess it moves because it's designed to do so.

the technique used with shooting japanese bows has you torque-ing the bow, unlike western bows where you just pull straight back. When you release the arrow you're releasing the tension and the bow spins in your hand. You can shoot without the bow spinning, but having the spin is considered the proper way.

But as for the whole gun vs. bow thing, a bullet can go further and still kill where as an arrow can't go as far as a bullet and still kill. It loses it's speed the farther it goes due to flex in the arrow and an arrow catches wind more then a bullet ever will.

Yeah but arrows use kinetic energy which will do more damage at short range, plus they hit a larger area. If it was a gun vs. a compund at short range, the bow would win

No, the arrow hits a smaller area. When a bullet hits the target at close range it blows a bigger hole into the target. The arrow is going to make the same size hole at 10 meters as it will at 30 meters. An arrow can only make as big of a hole as the tip is, a bullet rips the hole bigger with force.

Bows and Arrows are better. You can get great distance, with almost NO sound. Besides, guns, you can point and shoot (at less than 50 yards, and even after that its so easy), but with a bow it takes SKILL.

no, guns dont really take skill to fire, besides arrows go farther, faster in some cases, if your good enough, can be more accurate and can be more lethal (not in terms of how far the penetration necesarily but how big the wound is and the damage caused if you remove it wrong, so archery is better than guns if used correctly

TRY a bow before you buy. as Stingerx said suggested. Local shop, they may have a short indoor range. Ask for information, they may let you play with something. Always TRY before you buy. Bows will feel differntly in differnt hands.

i use a 32 inch 2 line x crossbow --- custom built in germany... its a 360 pund bow... motor crank carbon fiber bolts that thing has a laser sight and sniper scope for god's sake its almost considered a SWAT wepon =D

Whoever said "recurves are good to start with" doesn't know jack about archery. I've used recurves and compounds and my dad makes longbows. It doesn't matter what you use, you can bring down any big game with any of these bows. Traditional archery is highly respected (longbows, recurves).

first, I think you should go see your areas archeryvlub, go ask them where you can find and start training, I htink you should start with checking if they got begginers training and such as, before you ge a bow, then search for like Hoyt and Samick or just ask the club if they can fix it and you buy it

as someone said... recurves are good to start with. compounds are a bit complicated to get used to. the way they draw back is funny and if you dont know how to fire a bow like a recurve, you are likely to either stop dead there or drop the string. PM me if you wanna discuss archery.

no, that is not true since everybody has different types of length and stuff (i mean physical) and yiu oull the string longer if your taler, then the aiming changes. still there is different types of recurv classes, you have those with aiming and stabilizors and those without.

That depends.

You can get a beginner level bow in either a compound or recurve. I dislike compounds, and got a very good recurve. I would recommend a good recurve, it teaches good fundementals.

This was us havin' some fun, and gathin' some footage for a physics project.

Those arrows bounced out because that one bow is probably the crappiest bow in the world, probably a 15lb.

The target just had beens hot so many times that it was all mangled up behind the deer, it really had to be hit hard to stick.

The black recurve that I'm shooting is a 55lb bow (at my draw length), I love that bow. I have a sight on that one.

No cheating with a compound for me.
