Halo 2's theme gave me chills. Gears 2 is better than I thought ( have never listened to it in full before), but it's not as good as its competetor. I think that's mainly because, to me, whilst it has this grand chanting that conveys an epic struggle; it just sounds too similar to what you may hear in your average blockbuster movie. Halo has a more specific identity in comparison; and conveys the desperation, foreboding Covenant threat, the grand battles and heroic triumphs players experience.

It's really tough to compare both excellent scores from equally as amazing games, but I'd have to go with the Gears of War theme. Not just because I'm a big fan of Steve Jablonsky's work, but I guess if you listen to the music, you can get a sense of what kind of horrors and hardships that the characters have been through. What I'm trying to get at is that it has more emotion so to speak than Halo's theme song. But Halo's is still pretty epic nonetheless.
