@brandonattor Q are u using this cam and does it make ur head look long lol cus i got ridd of this cam and bought the logitech pro 9000 cus the lifecam cinema made my face look long
@Treylogan218BR Um no It doesnt make my head look long, It might be just a problem with my videocard or not enough light. My first choice was gunna be the logitec 9000 but the lifecam was cheaper lol
@brandonattor dude the logitech proo is cheaper lol u can buy it for 44 bucks on amazon but hey ur loss and yes the cam did make my face look lng and it got annoying when people said why the long face lol so i had to buy the pro 9000
Hi, nice review man, I know this video its kind of old but i have a question and I'll be so happy if you could answer me. ¿Are you using the mic from the camera or are you using another mic, like the one you show on the video? I'm Venezuelan, so please excuse my english (if a made a mistake).
Do you know if the software that comes with this cam has been updated so it's possible now to switch to a different audio source and/or different microphone?
Great picture quality BUT the motion does not look smooth at all. I can bet that if you select a lower resolution then it will be show super fastest images, which means that that webcam is not really ready for 1280x720P. I saw that crappy problem in all youtube videos reviewing this "720p" webcam.... Thanks youtube, now I know I should not buy this webcam.
@svartahridxhgc theres a diffence to he isnt technicaly on a video chat alone he recorded this using his cam yet using the youtube thing so yahh i bought this cam cant wait to get it i paid 49 bucks for mine
hey i was wondering how you sync that microphone with the lifecam? Cause i have a lifecam hd and an mxl990 condenser usb mic but i do not know how to sync it with the lifecam. can you tell me how please?
there seems to be some annoying background noice with the lifecam, or is that just settings? and with the logitech there seems to be a tendency of sound 'peaks'? I wonder if this is just coincidentally too?
sucks how you cant select a different audio device. i want to use my line in to capture my keyboard, with an external mic capturing my voice :( great review thanks
Hey people this is GRiZLOC and i'm a gadget freak. I like all kinds of gadgets game consoles mobile phones HDTV's and computers. This Lifecam Cinema HD cam is THE BEST webcam i have eve bought. I already have one which i use with great satisfaction. I also bought a second one so i have 2 of these webcams. It's amazing how this cam produces a 720p 30fps video chatting and recording. it's absolutely a must have gadget !!!
Since you can only use the lifecam mic while recording, what about when your broadcasting on a live webstream, are you able to use a secondary mic with this camera or is it still the lifecam microphone.
@tipsysnake hahaha I know I know. I have been so busy with the network I havnt had a second to do this. We do a Webcasting network and have around 6 live shows a week our site is on the side . I promise this week we will have the video up
This webcam is incompatible with virtually all Netbooks. You MUST have a dual core Pentium for this camera to achieve its advertised 30 fps 720P. I tried it on my new Gateway 1.6 GHz N450 Netbook with Windows7 - "incompatible". Same story with my Toshiba Satellite Laptop 2.0 GHz Centrino with WinXP. The best it would do is 10 FPS which is garbage. I returned it and bought a Flip Ultra HD camcorder for $199 - way more money but the only HD solution unless you have a very high end PC.
Again,I'm noticed pitched/keen noise from Microsoft LifeCam Cinema microphone.I watched more then 7 reviews of this camera, here in youtube, and always I heard this pitched/keen noise. Thanks for the review.
I figured out how to use a seperate microphone while at the same time using microsoft's lifecam software! I posted a video tutorial on my channel. I found it by accident, a lot of trial and error.
You say mics built into webcams aren't good but yet my one is much better then all my mics. I have even tried a friends mic which cost him £50 and my webcam is about the same qual and picks up sound really good. I have a MS VX3000
Hey Great video.. i need help. i got the lifecam, shot a video in my room, and in the end i got a video with 15 fps!!! not 30fps!! why is that? i guess its got to do eith the lighting ,or is there anyway to change the frame rate please message or reply .
Get the Logitech Quickcam 9000 pro . I bought both webcam's , but the lifecam sucks . Quickcam is mutch better . The white balance of the logitech is the best !
The video capture at the receiving end via internet will be different, you should test that rather than real time capturing, because most webcams are used for internet conference and not realtime captureing, I really want to see that test!
We do it every week on or show. We use the camera for 2 of the shots on my show. We send the video at 640x360 along with all our other video. if you want to see it go to my website and take a look
how is the autofocus for very close and small objects? The thing I want to "film" with that during the next ~3weeks is about 6mm in diameter and so I need to get very close because I can not use digital zoom for maximum details. Could you post a short sequence filming such a small thing? I guess some hand-writing would do it too. The object will not move more than a few mm during the whole time so movement captures at this size are not relevant to me. Thanks a lot for the review so far!
auto Focus its one of the best I have seen in a webcam in terms of Small objects . It makes it very clear to read and see. The only issue with the auto focus is that sometimes it readjusts too much . I believe it has to do with the lightning of the room
thank you! I think I will order it then today - the returning focus stuff shouldn't be a big bother because I need it to take one picture every few minutes only - in this period it should be able to focus again!
Have any of the software updates allow you to use a external microphone yet? I am getting the Microsoft Cinema HD soon and eventually want to get the Blue Snowball?
Thanks for the quick reply. I just picked it up after i saw your videos. It`s a nice one. I`m not really impressed but this is a web cam so it`s great. If i want real 720p i`ll get a real camera then.
hey i can get this webcam for 45 bucks from some one but from what u been showing the logitech webcam is more simple because i noticed you talked alot about how i have to tweek settings wid the microsoft one so which you think i should get tho?? im not all great with computers.
everytime I use the Webcams ( Either the Lifecam or the Logitech ) I have to play with the color settings to make it look better. It does have a auto feature that does a pretty good job on both
Oh scratch that, just learned in his video review on youtube that he recorded the sound on a different computer (mac). The Lifecam would be great if it would let you use an external mic. How ridiculous
@tastethejace I can use a external mic when i use another program to record. we stream out shows with vidblster and use a external mic. ITs the software that it comes with that doesnt allow you to
Thanks for the quick response = ). I decided to go with the Logitiech Orbit AF because it looks futuristic and turns when you do which my dad will get a kick out of (he's an engineer, you know how they are), even tho it will probably have less video quality than the Lifecam.
Plus I..I...I...just can't buy anything from Microsoft.
You've stated that you are unable to switch to an external mic while recording, but it looks like the video reviewer on amazon for the lifecam is able to do so, so maybe there are ways.
How about just streaming live? Are you able to use an external mic with relative ease?
There this terrible high pitched pulsing that is exploding my ear drums on your videos. Your attempt to look and sound look like a pro radio host failed.
Sounds great. I'm still using my Logitech Quickcam from 1998. I just ordered this from bestbuy for $64 to replace my old Logitech that has a max res. of 320x??? at 15fps.. I'll be a lot happier tomorrow when I pick it up!!
Ok well lets start here. What are you using to record it ? are you recording it with the Lifecam software then posting it or recording with youtube?. Youtube will not post it in HD if you record it with Youtube.

Thanks everyone for the kind words please keep them coming. please rate my video when you guys can and check out our Webcast network.. Again thanks again to everyone who sent me a message
Andrew, you are a LIFE-saver!!! I'm torn between 3 webcams right now, and this has really helped me to narrow it down. It sounds like no cam is without its flaws as far as operation &/or software glitches, but like you said, I can only hope Microsoft will provide some updates to clear all that up. A young lady on here has EXCELLENT quality from her Logitech 9000 which is the best i've seen, but on your review the Microsoft looks better... So i'm still torn, but narrowing it down. Thanks alot!
Thanks Brandonelliot for the Nice words. That was the exact point of the Video . I wanted to make it easier for people to find a good webcam. It was been working great for out shows. and its very close to my canon hf200
There's one thing that's very annoying in this video, and all the more obvious in the comparison video. Your MS Lifecam recordings have a high-pitched whine, probably over 12kHz, in the audio. It's most likely a codec bug, yet it's completely absent in crunchgear's comparison to iSight. Presumably this is also a bug in the PC software.
Yea Lone That is interesting. I have tried it with two different lifecam Cinemas and on Two different PC's and I still have the High pitch sound. I never use the Mic on this camera but I still would like to know whats the cause for this
The Philips SPC1300NC does in fact do 90 FPS video, check the Philips web site. Why would you need 90 FPS still shot? It doesn't have a burst mode. USB will handle 90 FPS.
this is a review that was done about the camera Next under the microscope is the 90f/s video claim. For our test we hooked the webcam up to a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with a 2.1Ghz Core2 Duo chip and 3GB of RAM and the best we got was 6fps at 2Mp and 1.3mp and 20f/s at 800 x 600. 90f/s or even 30/s for that matter only became an option at VGA resolution and below. The bottom line? A lot of users won't be able to record 2Mp video at 90f/s or even 1.3mp video at 30f/s.
When we asked Philips about this, it confirmed that the results we achieved were about right, which is fair enough. Yet the spiel on the box still rather suggests at least to the technically naïve that it can do better.
It looks like it will be a nice web cam. I use the Creative Optia AF and AF Pro and Philips SPC1300NC which are better than the 9000 Pro and has up to 90 FPS setting and up to 1600 X 1200.
I saw the Philips SPC1300NC a while ago when I was searching for a good one. the 90FPS is Still shots not Video. The Highest a camera can do is 60fps and thats a great camera. Webams can only do 30fps at most due to the fact they use USB.
The Orbit AF and the Logitech 9000 have the same specs actually. I have both the only difference is the price. The 9000 also does a better job at the auto white balancing then the Orbit AF
and I am extremely happy that someone has finally posted a video review!
You said this blows away the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000, but are you familiar with the updated model, the "Webcam Pro 9000"? How does the Cinema compare with the updated version if you're familiar?
Also, can you address:
1. Low-lighting capabilities (i.e. Logitech's RightLight--what does Microsoft use?)
2. Did I hear the (auto)focus movement pick up on the mic? 2:14
Someone Brought up the fact that there is a updated model yesterday. I looked at the Serial number one my two 9000's and one is a Webcam Pro. From what I see there is no difference. Actually one thing that is strange is the performance of the Quickcam 9000 is better in vidblaster then the Webcam 9000. But overall this camera is much clearer then the 9000 new or old
There is no Option in the software it came with the change to another mic. I find it very strange Because the Logitech came with the option the chance mice sources
So the mic on it sucks (which is normal for any webcam), but you can't use a different mic for it?
For instance, I like to use my plantronics headphones for my mic because they pick up sounds VERY clearly, but they pick up a lot of wind noise too (i need to get a diffuser that will fit it's awkwardly-shaped mic). I wouldn't be able to?
thanks Andrew, been looking for a review for this since it supposedly hit stores Sept 9th, which even now it's not in stores around here still. Good review.
Thank you very much for your evaluation Andrew. I am so happy to learn that this new Microsoft webcam beats the 2 years old top Logitech webcam... You are the first one in the world to have made an evaluation about this new webcam so long time awaited. (Entertainment Executive).

How about this cam versus the newer Logitech C910.
I'd like to see that. That has Stereo Mic in it, so that should help with the audio some. I wonder if that one will beat this Microsoft Cinema Webcam?
I also wonder if MS will make another to answer to it, as they made this one to answer to the Quickcam Pro 9000.
I know it's not the best mic but how good is the Blues Microphones Yeti? That has to destroy webcam Mics right lol?

andranic 2 years ago
i have a toshiba satellite A205-S4617 laptop
specs: 250GB hdd Sata
2GB ram memory
Intel dual core processor 1.66 GHz
Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit
and it seems that laptop webcams have that problem...or does it? what you think?
Brian6121990 2 years ago
also another thing, would this camera you reviewed in this video, would that work great for a laptop?

How does the built-in mic perform from several feet away?
Technoguy3 2 years ago
this Was about 4 feet away
andranic 2 years ago
Thanks. I was just wondering because I may be about six feet away if I get this, and I wanted to see if my voice would be loud enough. ;)
Technoguy3 2 years ago
I was speaking loud so it would come out clear. Wanted you to know
andranic 2 years ago
There's one thing that's very annoying in this video, and all the more obvious in the comparison video. Your MS Lifecam recordings have a high-pitched whine, probably over 12kHz, in the audio. It's most likely a codec bug, yet it's completely absent in crunchgear's comparison to iSight. Presumably this is also a bug in the PC software.
0LoneTech 2 years ago
Yea Lone That is interesting. I have tried it with two different lifecam Cinemas and on Two different PC's and I still have the High pitch sound. I never use the Mic on this camera but I still would like to know whats the cause for this

Amazing Review... the best out there thanks for informing all of us
dahalabit 2 years ago 4
I have no problem getting 90 FPS at over 1000 res. That review says "Most people" and "A lot of users".
KlasicKumputerz 2 years ago 4
I have been looking to find video of people using the camera. Any idea where I can find it.
andranic 2 years ago
What Frame Rate is it getting at the highest setting/
andranic 2 years ago
The Philips SPC1300NC does in fact do 90 FPS video, check the Philips web site. Why would you need 90 FPS still shot? It doesn't have a burst mode. USB will handle 90 FPS.
KlasicKumputerz 2 years ago 3
this is a review that was done about the camera Next under the microscope is the 90f/s video claim. A lot of users won't be able to record 2Mp video at 90f/s or even 1.3mp video at 30f/s.
andranic 2 years ago
When we asked Philips about this, it confirmed that the results we achieved were about right, which is fair enough. Yet the spiel on the box still rather suggests at least to the technically naïve that it can do better.
andranic 2 years ago
It looks like it will be a nice web cam. I use the Creative Optia AF and AF Pro and Philips SPC1300NC which are better than the 9000 Pro and has up to 90 FPS setting and up to 1600 X 1200.
KlasicKumputerz 2 years ago 4
I saw the Philips SPC1300NC a while ago when I was searching for a good one. the 90FPS is Still shots not Video. The Highest a camera can do is 60fps and thats a great camera. Webams can only do 30fps at most due to the fact they use USB.

King of webcams is logitech orbit af. Not the 9000.. Do a review with those two. Orbit is best ive seen.
DreamTeam0208 2 years ago
The Orbit AF and the Logitech 9000 have the same specs actually. I have both the only difference is the price. The 9000 also does a better job at the auto white balancing then the Orbit AF
andranic 2 years ago
and I am extremely happy that someone has finally posted a video review!
3. Cinema's mic vs Pro 9000's mic
Thanks!!!
DTrinh09 2 years ago
Someone Brought up the fact that there is a updated model yesterday. I looked at the Serial number one my two 9000's and one is a Webcam Pro. From what I see there is no difference. Actually one thing that is strange is the performance of the Quickcam 9000 is better in vidblaster then the Webcam 9000. But overall this camera is much clearer then the 9000 new or old
andranic 2 years ago
There is no Option in the software it came with the change to another mic. I find it very strange Because the Logitech came with the option the chance mice sources
andranic 2 years ago
So the mic on it sucks (which is normal for any webcam), but you can't use a different mic for it?
For instance, I like to use my plantronics headphones for my mic because they pick up sounds VERY clearly, but they pick up a lot of wind noise too (i need to get a diffuser that will fit it's awkwardly-shaped mic). I wouldn't be able to?
Or even the mic by that's built into m dell?

thanks Andrew, been looking for a review for this since it supposedly hit stores Sept 9th, which even now it's not in stores around here still. Good review.

Thank you very much for your evaluation Andrew. I am so happy to learn that this new Microsoft webcam beats the 2 years old top Logitech webcam... You are the first one in the world to have made an evaluation about this new webcam so long time awaited. (Entertainment Executive).
