  • oh how altona and the westgate have changed in around 30 years!

  • @MrSuperiority I thought the XD was worse. To me, at least the XE resembles something like a sedan mustang (can you guess my nationality yet?). I do have to agree that the designs have become rather too generic but at least you guys have better looking cars than we do in the States-especially the utes.

  • Thats exactly right, Now more than ever, Falcon is the answer.

  • Well on my previous comment just bought a 90 Xf column 3 speed Xf Panal Van for 1000$ New Engine recond gear box, great car great camper and unlike my mates Vl the cops rarely pull me over. Commodore the hoons car.

  • Jesus christ that economy is about 18 times better than my dad's old Mercedes C32!

  • ahh dude its got nothing to do with being a wog or australian or calathumpian its about the car .

  • dude tell me about it, thats why I drive my old valiants.

  • the 1960's and 1970's falcons are better than the 1980's,90's and 2000's models.

  • WOW coil springs rear suspension in 1982, too bad you had to wait til 1998 AU for Independent rear suspension in a Falcon/Fairlane (XRs and Fairmonts only)

  • I was a ford mad fanatic .IDIOT ME in 1988 purchased a update ford fairmont ghia cost me a shit load of money for then, I swear i could hear the salesmen at the dealership laughing at me when I drove of as if to say sucker, and they where right it was a total heap of shit even though I polised that car and used mobil 1 iol in between services I kept it mint and I mean mint , it was still a piece of shit rattles sqeeks and horrible road noise , my old wog dad said thats mass prod for ya.

  • @moparbros - would that have been an early-series EA, by any chance? Yeah, they were a bit on the nose. Polishing it was not addressing the sharp edge of the problem.

Of course, we all know that the Italians made good, solid, reliable cars that didn't rust, right?

  • @moparbros Love the car big roomy But my mom had one that was only 6 months old when she bought it fucking lemon I prefer the Ea to Ed model falcons for modern falcons.

  • this is the gl in this ad right ?

  • @VLVT95 - Yep, you can see the "GL" badge on the bootlid at about 0:46...

  • my dad has an '84 fairmont xe and he never uses its. only done 30,000km from new and 1/2 of that was from the 1st owners in the 1 year they had it. extremely good condition tho. love the xe's...

  • why cant car ads be like this nowadays

  • Drive a 82' XE.....reliable.......outlasted my sister's 91' Nissian Pulsar....still going strong after 385000km's....love the xe's and xf's.....my dad has a 87' xf.

  • Good call!

  • :) thanks

  • The XE was a far, far better car than the XD. Interesting that the fuel economy figures don't apply in NSW??? What's all that about, where the Sydney cars less aerodynamic?!!

  • It was due to emission control laws in NSW

  • Damn - how Altona and the Westgate Bridge have changed in over 25 years.

  • pretty good fords. i dont really like the idea of 3.3ltr engine for a car that size. id stick with the 4.1 carbies

  • Even better is the 4.1 EFI that came out in Jan 1983. A whopping 110 kw's!! - so not many kilowatts, but still good for it's time. Although the EEC-1 proved a little unreliable at times. The only two niggles with XE's are firewalls that rust out and the door handle breakages that continued on from the XD.

  • @80sOldSkool - Yeah, those door handles were a bitch! Flimsy as hell - broke the driver's door handle on my XD S-Pack (4.1 Top Loader) several times; they broke on all the XD / XE's I had.

  • @lebankneezwarrior The 3.3 litre was a dog box cause my old man had a xe station wagon and he had to thrash it just to get it around

  • these cars are bloody realiable. still see lots of the xd, xe and xf on the road still, these car are unstopable. ford rules

  • my neighbour has one of these and its done a round trip of australia more than 5 times and it still goes there tough as hell

  • yes, if it had been a VK (the Commodore tbat released the same time as the XE), the old 3.3 would have blown up years ago and the car around it would have fallen to pieces!

  • This ad is awesome. Man we have come so far in such a short time...from computers to cars and trends.

  • yes, but this was 1982, and this is now 2009, so 27 years is a long time!

  • good old x series gotta love em

  • Falcon is the answer

  • I love box falcons

  • Yep, had a few myself!

  • Thanks for sharing your great collection of Australian commercials from a bye gone era

  • My pleasure!
