Actually coloring your hair often does make it look thicker and healthier. But bleaching, no no no. Even if you color your hair the same color it already is, it generally looks better. Don't necessarily have to change the color.
'Do it!' she sounds so brash for a moment there - then laughs 'there's no excuse no to anymore.' The ad was, as others commented, definitely trying to join up hair coloring w/ the back-to-nature feel of the era.
(If the era was about sadistic goths bent on revenge they'd sell the same product w/ that motif!) But in the 70s it was back to nature and the sexual revolution.
-- Right at the end... "Do it. There's no excuse not to any more." All About Eve... hair coloring plus a young woman embracing the sexual revolution. -- To 1970s middle aged moms and dads, such as we are now... was her attitude obvious/affrontive... or did it not register at all, stir ones sense, skip a beat? An Extra-logical provocation.
Maybe I've not seen eNOUGH degenerate movies, standup comics, 'I'm w/ stupid' on stage antics etc, to be entirely desensitized. :-)
Model's name is Anne Powers, though if she's seen the comments in this thread, I would imagine she's changed it three or four times. An absolute doll, no question.
Retrojoet: Ironic, yes, to see this back-to-the-earth 70s backpacker telling us about dying her hair. But my college years came a decade later, and in my little commuter-school-hippie crowd, the most hardcore, off-the-grid, vegetarian types tended to have hair either Magic Marker-black or Magic Marker-maroon.
is very veryyyy beautifull quien es ?? como se llama??? lastima...tanto tiewmpo..ya tendra como unos 60 yeras old no?? al menso me gustaria saber como se llama please¡¡¡¡¡ what is your name ??? please¡¡
I saw a girl not too long ago on a game show on PBS that featured Pennsylvania high school kids pitted against each other that reminded me of her in a shocking sort of way. Same brown hair, high cheekbones, sweet ever-present smile, and super cute accent. It was kind of funny and hard to picture Mary (the game show girl) saying she wanted to go into politics, specifically a CNN show. Not sure why I remembered that but I thought that little anecdote would be mildly interesting.
Only in the 1970's would you see a commercial with a wholesome, back-to-nature, hippie chick girl using a chemical stew to put artificial color in her hair! Talk about contradictions!
I collect old beauty shop trade magazines, and it's fascinating to see ads for the early versions of brand names we still buy today. Some Clairol ads in the 1930s magazines even have a photo of Joan Clair in them.
It's always good to admit you don't understand the product when trying to sell it

Great commercial, the incredibly beautiful and sexy young woman is what makes this commercial great, though.

@MVillani1985 The fact that it made you flashback all the way to this old commercial is the most interesting part.

Love that hairdo. It's very sexy. Women should wear their hair like that again.
