@jhedden20 I suggest you do a little more research. It had nothing to do with being outdated as the CR500 was still being made well after the 500cc class was put to rest. The AMA had alot to do with the 500 class being done away with. That and the fact nobody but Honda and Kawasaki made any 500cc bikes worth a shit near the end. Also you may want to look into the CR500AF/KX500AF and you will see that the 500's still lives on in open class.

I owned a KX500 and had a friend with a CR500 and the power delivery is terrible! There is nothing smooth about the bike its just very fast. I go to a lot of races and have maybe seen 2 in the last several years and the guys were finishing way back in the pack. My point is that they could never compete against a 450 in a motocross race!!!

. i have a 2003 kx125. and i am geting another bike i was looking at this and some crf250x wr250f im 16 140lbs and 5ft 11in i ride hard trail and track WHAT SHOULD I GET
yes i have the 250f and have to adjust my valves every 25 to 30 hours of normal riding 10 to 15 under racing conditions and if you dont you will find yourself thinking about the 2 stroke because it is so damn expensive to replace valves it cost me almost a grand for 4 valves and the springs and shit plus labor i cant imagine how much more it would be to do it on a efi bike with all the different parts
1g is like a 9 top end rebuilds for a 2stroke lol probably 6 if you have to pay for labor lol. i like 4t's but im not rich so i'll stick with the 2t's but thats just me. 2t's are cheap, dependable, and easy to work on lol
ya if you just ride trails you can go about 1- 2 yrs without adjusting them. Also with a manual and a a couple hours of free time you can do them your self

yea it depends the four stroke has alot of low end torque and aceleration and the two has the powerband and alot of all around acceleration it just depends ive ridden an 06 crf450r and it was hard to take into fourth gear. it accelerated perty fast but when you pull back all the way your into a wheelie
personally i'd try to test it out first if i were you.
the 250x is a great bike, with quite a bit of power. i dont know the transition from atv to dirtbikes, because i dont ride atvs.. but from what i've seen.. i think probably a crf 150, would probably be the best beginner bike

Ya you really are a dumbass go do your homework on the difference with WHEEL SPIN between a 4 stroke and a 2 stroke and see what one dose hook up better as in TRACTION. 4 strokes transmission's are built a bit different than a 2 stroke, because it is a different type of power plant to put the power to the ground for TRACTION.

Also by the way I own an 86 cr 500 one of two of the fastest 500's ever made witch was the 86 and 89. On top of that it's bored to a 600. So ya I don't know how to ride a 2 stroke now do I. A fast guy like Carmichael can race a 250 two stroke and win. Or place well in a 450 class... But that's besides the point, a 250 two stroke is allowed to race up aganst a 250 four stroke. So Idk why your taking shots at them. Two strokes are awsome and in a 250f class a 250 2 smoke will eat it up

yea it depends the four stroke has alot of low end torque and aceleration and the two has the powerband and alot of all around acceleration it just depends ive ridden an 06 crf450r and it was hard to take into fourth gear. it accelerated perty fast but when you pull back all the way your into a wheelie

personally i'd try to test it out first if i were you.
the 250x is a great bike, with quite a bit of power. i dont know the transition from atv to dirtbikes, because i dont ride atvs.. but from what i've seen.. i think probably a crf 150, would probably be the best beginner bike
