There's a 'new-ish' Tokyo Extreme game that came out a couple years ago for the Xbox 360 called Import Tuner Challenge. It's basically the same game, but with better graphics and more customization.

@djskyline701 the cars ARE NOT licensed...any details and emblems used on the cars are actually fobbed if you get in close enough...the Tokyo Extreme series didnt receive licensed cars until Tokyo 3....Genki was basically forced to purchase licensing for their games from Tokyo 3 and up...i list all of my shirts by the chassis codes for the cars on them to avoid trademark infringement just like Genki did

That game is a kinda legend and u should play, it is one of the funnest games I have ever played. It doesnt have great graphics what make u say whoa!, ur eyes get tired when u play the game for a couple of hours cause of the alltime night thing in the game but it is really fun. I dont know what makes me love that game so much but I do. Its a kinda perfect game.

The Tokyo Extreme racing series was almost exactly the same for each game.

I have Tokyo Extreme Racer 2 and Tokyo Extreme Racer ZERO, And only things that are different is the menu look, some more cars, and HUD Look.

The game that started was on PS1 and then the concept was improved by Square (Final Fantasy series) that made Racing Lagoon RPG. In fact I think some of the characters in that game are challengers in this game or its sequel as an homage to that game I forget

They cant legally use car names so instead they use chassis codes.For example a 1987-1992 Mazda RX7 chassis code is

" FC3S" or for the yellow NISSAN 180sx the code is "RS13"

like a nissan 240sx or 180sx in Japan for example

there are different models

S13 is the about the oldest model

S14 is about the 1995 and up model

S15 is the newest about 98 or 99 and up

or with skylines R32 R33 R34

if it wasnt licensed they cannot put these cars in the game, they would have to make up their own cars or they would most likely get sued.
