I recently bought a JEM clone kit, swapped the pots out for quality 500Ks and a new selector, finished off in a light stain and tung oil. I would compare it with any $500 stock rig out there. A little fret work would put it into the $600-$700 category. I have $145 into it, including all materials, built it in less than 3 days, about 8 man hours total. Hard to fault it fot the price.
Why would any decent player wanna buy a chinese copy of a guitar....you just dont get the same feel and sound as something which is 'high' end (proper american, japanese, mexican guitars etc..)
Plus, a high end guitar is something to be proud of rather than having a lump of plywood sitting in the corner there which 'ping-ling-jim' build for about 5 pence....it baffles me
@Matkinson91 why doesnt he just put the Steve vai signature pickups in it.....at least it will sound better.......(or he could sell it to some kid on ebay.)
@crawzillarulz Cuz it wont have the same resonance in the wood compared to what the japs use, changing the pickups will only change the tone to a certain degree, but its the wood which does as equal job in the tone.
cuz if i was a kid and i was given a chinese made guitar...id cry
id much prefer Korean , american, mexican or jap guitars
At the end of the day, what do the majority of people buy a guitar for really...tone...and the jap JEM7v....is amazing, i wouldnt settle for less
@crawzillarulz Well to be honest, when i started playing guitar 6-7 year ago the Jem7V was my absolute dream guitar....I browsed the internet to find cheap ones, but the ones i found were all chinese and had shit reveiws, obvious flaws, crap hardware, crap wood etc....
So whats the point in buying a fake one when one day you can get the real thing and wank over it for eternity....(Not tryna insinuate that i wank over mine haha) Nothing on that guitar well ever be the 'real thing'
@crawzillarulz Also, i took me 5 years to get my Jem, i was never a 'demon child' about it in that time....I wanted the real thing, i waited....i got it
@bringhimthehorizon1 hey genius.......I play a Fender Stratocaster......and btw I love the JEM....(try the Jemini Pedal while your at it)plays well.....And I totally agree with you.....no need for you to get your panties in a wad......:D
@bringhimthehorizon1 that was a stupid comment dude, i mean the "don't be a fake part especially, i mean, WTF exactly is that supposed to mean, criticizing the poor kid because that's what his parents could afford or perhaps, what they were or he was willing to spend on an instrument at this point, $2500.00 is a hefty investment on an instrument for a teenager period, whether you have money or not. either way it's better "nankin" with something that it is with nothing..leave the kid alone
Ha well I was planning on Getting one of these and putting some white EMGS in anyways. better to pay 250 bucks for this guitar and a few hundred on parts then spend 2500..
i bought a china Gibson replica, the Gibson was OK, it was heavy and sound reasonable. but the
jem 77v from china, is absolute rubbish, and cheaply constructed, i will pull it apart and see if its worth fixing, as i also have genuine ibanez guitars
posted one vid so far of my chibanez. all i can say if anyone wants to buy a fake from china, be prepared to spend a few hundred more upgradeing the hardware. the guitar itself is great. plays very nice. but the hardware is garbage. chinese crap. i would say if u buy one be prepared to spend at least 500 more on upgrades
@Klipnotica Very true about the hardware. I have a blue version of this guitar and the hardware is absolute garbage. The neck is perfectly straigh and very comfortable to play, but the tuners, tremelo, knobs and pick ups are so low quality. For a couple of hundred dollars it makes a good base guitar for a project.
ill be posting a video or two of me playing the Chibanez. i had to take it into a guitar store to have some adjustments done. i attempted to tune it mysellf took a few hours. then decided on changeing to 10 gauge strings so had some work done.the neck lockers were too high off the neck had to lower bout 2 mm and had to add extra spring to the bridge. will be upgradeing the bridge and lockers to Schaler's and planning on buying demarzio2 pickups. paint and finish looks excellent. just needs setup
@HarryArron i would not recomend buying the chibanez, if u have 500 ther are much better guitars out ther for that price even epiphone and squire compare to the chibanez. and u also arnt garenteed what ur getting. i would actually recomend buying a real ibanez guitar and go from ther if u like ibanez. the knockoff is no better then ur average epiphone or vintage etc.
i just bought one today from tradetang for $230 canadien ive been told that these guitar require to be set up once u get it. if u dont take the time to set the guitar up it will sound like garbage. the floyd rose style bridge is not easy for the average guitarist to work with when tuning and putting new strings on. hense when buying the real deal jem v7 for 2g or so it comes pre-set not just put together. labour is cheap in china and if u get guitar made by right company it will be alright
@richass100 I bought one, its much much better then I expected, but do not expect JEM quality. It just happens to look similar. An rg100 series is made as well. That said, I love the way the neck feels, its so much better then I expected. The electronics blow complete ass.
dumbass. you just got ripped off. shit quality. shit trem (@mattgsperm no, it wont, its a fake floyd copy and will go out of tune), shit everything. its a shit guitar
My guitar teacher has 3 vai sigs and he also owns one of these. This dude is a master as in playing everything metal, jazzy, blusey, classical. everything for 50 plus years. He claims this guitar is legit wood and everything. BUT when it comes to the hardware and pickups, it is the lowest of the low. Like $200 level. I have played it a few times myself and the only problems are the pickups and the intonation, but get some duncans and some grovers and we are good to go for sure.
@JoeGlowGuitar i have to disagree, it looks close to an original edge or an edge III but no cigar. easy to tell too. there are no ibanez trems with metal fine tuners, theyre all black plastic and most dont come out
@MrSamTheFlowerMan i stand corrected haha however, that is NOT an ibanez trem. and not a true ibanez. chibanez only makes fakes. theyre not an ibanez sponcored factory like fujijen in japan or whatever theyre called in indonesia and korea
@MrSamTheFlowerMan Really? You can say a guitar is high quality without seeing one or playing one? I have 2 of the "real deals" and bought one of these "just to see". They are incomparable in quality. The chibanez is far better then expected, but not "good" by any means.
@JgHaverty thats true but its still low quality woods, low inspection and almost no attention put into how well it was crafted, carved or put together
@deathcore1239 That's a very generalised statement, a lot of false rumours are going about to discourage people. Some of the fakes are amazingly good for the money. Of course some are crap but generally the standard is getting higher.
@ojideagu theyre getting much higher in korea and indonesia but china isnt making much progress. my friend bought a chibanez jem (knowingly) and let me dissect it and it was just aweful, everything about it
@deathcore1239 That's because they are not official guitars. Epiphone guitars are made in China exclusively now. In the future most guitars will be made in China. The only thing holding them back is counterfitting worries. At the end of the day you are still being ripped off by "name" brands because they are not worth the money you are charged. Their is a 3-4 times markup of the true value of the components.
@ojideagu now THAT i agree with. i mean $2600 for an alder RG with a monkey grip? yea, fuck you ibanez haha ill happily pay $1200 or so on a prestige but thats it. any more is a rip off. nobodys as bad as bc rich tho. they havnt made a good guitar since the 80's
@deathcore1239 Yes I think it's purely because of demand. If Guitars were as popular as Toyota's then they would be far far cheaper and mass produced. We are charged so much because they are niche products and also higher labour costs. A machine can pretty much make a technically perfect high quality guitar. If they can do it with cars they can do it with guitars.
@deathcore1239 Bit of a generalisation but I find guitar snobs and people who spend thousands on guitars because it says "Gibson" or "Vai" on the headstock are often the worst players lol some can't even play at all.
Most good guitar players were brought up and learnt their technique on average guitars.
@ojideagu yea, i know what you mean. i learned on a 2002 jackson js1r dinky and it taught me great. not i play on all japanese ibanez's but never buy a new one. ive never spent more than $800 on a guitar
@deathcore1239 Sure. I mean nothing wrong with buying one expensive guitar to use like a Gibson or Ibanez. It's the people who are more obsessed with buying guitars then actually PLAYING them lol I have more respect for some guy who's good playing a $100 guitar then some poser with his $4k Ibanez Jem who can barely play a note.
@ojideagu definately. but one guitar that truely pisses me off is the EVH strat copy guitar. i dont care if your the best player on earth, if you pay $25000 for that guitar, i hate you. its that simple
@deathcore1239 the main difference with these bad boys is definitely the materials. But you can swap most of them out O.o. Get a 100$ edge off ebay, a pair of decent humbuckers for ~120, if you REALLY wanna be anal, get some 500k pots for ~10 dollars each, and MAYBE get some tuners, but its still double locking, so thats not really needed. I actually bought a chibanez last night for shits n giggles. I really wanna see it in person and see what the hub bub is all about.
ran outta words. Mostly everyone I've seen knocking this guitar also knocks the 555's.... I can make a 555 SCREAM, and I really enjoy them. My 7v cost me ~1700 used, and I regret buying it :(
@JgHaverty 555 has a lot of potential to be great! but i think the best JEM is the 505. same trem, wood, quality, etc. as a $2600 jem for a little more than 1/2 the price!
@sonico73 Considering its not going to the same amp, same effects, same gear you have, not to mention he's not you, and that its going through a cheap camera quality sound, Im calling bullshit. You cant fucking tell.
