After watching all parts of DD2 for the PCengine i can honestly say that this game has nothing but the name in common with the Arcade game.Oh, and the life gauge.
Oh!!! This gotta be a joke! Game is easy as long as you time right with helicopter kicks. I have even met this boss once it switches to another background and even seen best ending.
I want to play this version all the way through to see how it fairs against the NES version. I love the platforming on the nes versions because it made them all so original. The SMS version of the first game was terrible mind.
I don't think I saw one Jumping Knee Lift this entire video. Part of my strategy when fighting Duke is when he knocks me down, if you time it just right, you can do the Jumping Knee Lift as you're getting up. Very effective on nearly every enemy/boss in the game and probably the most damaging single attack you can do.
Plus, it looks spectacular when finish Duke off with it as the last move.
I just finished this game on Hard. It's not too difficult, actually. Might take some practice, but once you've mastered it, you'll get through it in one piece. (Or...you can just use the Stage Select code!)
I've been tinkering around with hard mode for a bit. It's hard not so much of the enemy AI, it's how fast you can die, especially when you're in throwing range of behemoth enemies. My biggest hurdle ever is not getting that damned knee kick out consistently!
Where can I get the track for that stage or game? I know it's pretty non-existent, but I guess it doesn't hurt to try asking. It sounds pretty cool, it probably reminds me of movies like enter the dragon.
So far, so good. My only complaint about the music is just that the music doesn't change when you fight the Phantom clone. Usually when the Phantom appears the stage is accompanied by a creepy sounding tune. But the Final Boss stage music really kicks ass. I like how its nicely arranged with some guitar solos in it. In short, it sounds awesome. I wish I had the MP3 of that song.
The background music in the last level sounds very ancient; kind of reminds me of "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". It's probably not what I expected, but it certainly sounds like music from an ancient Indian or Chinese temple.
That guy with the assault rifle is from DD1. In DD2 NES you only fought the doppleganger before the final boss. Also, when you have the boss down to about half health (when the background changes), he STILL continues to disappear whereas in the NES version you could see him at all times.
I was eager to hear what the final boss music sounded like in this version, very disappointed with the slow tempo and a few key notes were missing and/or altered I thought. Looks like a neat adaptation of the game however.
It was weird not listening to the music tracks from either the Arcade or NES versions (since they have become classics), but at least the DD2 PC version did have the last Boss music the same. Thanks for sharing this version. I really liked the cutscenes between missions.
That boss music is the knit! I love it very much! I got one in my winamp file! I love the final boss music! Thanks for posting this, you are the best player ever in Double Dragon II.

Nice playthrough anyway. :)

@cnh2132 it's based on the NES version, which owns the arcade version in EVERY way.

It looks like they forgot to introduce the Shadow Master in this version?

The Shadow Master reminds me a bit of Krauser from Fatal Fury... :o

In some aspects this looks better than the arcade version. The final boss tune sounds great!

This's Easy mode. You can't see full ending movie.

i agree NES Double Dragon games were the best

This version is good but the nes version is the best.
jlenaghan 3 years ago
I think this is better becuase it had less platforming than the nes, which could be annoying.

It's been like 1 1/2 years since I've seen this clip. I would to see a game play on normal mode if it is posted.
I await your game play of the Double Dragon II PC Engine on normal mode. I'll be patient, Toneman.
I promise. =)

Lemme tell ya, the "throwbox" (as opposed to hitbox) is immense!

It's really irritating at a level that makes me want to break my Duo controller. The couple of platforming parts really should have been left out.

they should have added the DD music from its OST, this music ruin'd the gameplay, sticking with the NES one

I totally love this version. I just want to ask something. Where's the ending segment ? Who know, Marian resurrecting and the ending credicts.
Chuloloc 5 years ago
Yes. Since it's easy mode, you only fight two enemies in this one. Normal mode, you fight three enemies. And in hard mode, you fight four enemies.
NantoRyu 5 years ago
Doesn't the PC Engine version have the invincible flying knee move? Also, is it just limited to two enemies at a time?

Is he actually disappearing, or is that just a result of flickering + 30fps video capture?
