NASA ie. the taxpayer is now going to be hostage to politically connected cronies who took the rocket technology from NASA and now selling it back to the taxpayer as a "service". It's the same flawed and corrupt business model the defense industry and HMOs are using to leech on taxpayer subsidy for decades now without delivering any real benefit to taxpayers. This model created 99% of the US national debt and is responsible for basic science migrating to Europe as we speak.

this whole private sector fantasy in the US not only destroyed the US space program in the 70s but it destroyed capitalism starting in the 80s. If you compare the accomplishments of the Apollo program with the space shuttle, ie. putting expeditions on the moon vs putting commercial satellites on low earth orbit the contrast is almost as vivid as comparing the deregulated highly inefficient US broadband market with well regulated asian and EU markets. America clearly lost its way.
