@hectorae86 I think is not exactly like this. The reason is rather taking whole VRAM memory: in Enhanced Mode each open windows have assigned a lot of VRAM. It is not possible to release some memory by opened but not used at the moment programs, because Enhanced Mode role is having everything in VRAM just for fast handling all of graphics element. If anybody doesn't like this, he should turn of Enh. Disp.
In general - it is obvious that Enhanced Mode is for users with min. 64 MB VRAM.

This video is shit, I can hack and kill any of these operating easily with my pentesting operating system used by the govt. My PC is more secure than this shit
@richardmaudsley77 This is how I use a browser. I visit a forum in a new window and I open the interesting threads on tabs. I open a new window to visit amibay, and I open interesting things on tabs. etc etc etc...this is typical use. I don't mix website on tabs. 1 window = 1 url wwebsite.
i would say that this is an awfully unfair comparison, but since 1. i don't know anything about MorphOS's underlying architecture, and 2. your comparison stands strong from a usability viewpoint, i can't complain. :)
i've never used MorphOS, i just love anything Amiga-related, but it seems that it's not a completely viable alternative on older Macs.
@Barry3443 the purpose was to show something measurable betwin the 2 OS. As you can see the sound start to stutter at the third OWB windows...
This problem happen even with 1 OWB window and others apps.
Morphos boot faster but OSX is more Reliable/Stable. Mos can't play all 720P: it's not true. The video sample Fab is using to compare show that MOS/Mplayer can play 400kb/s more that OSX/Mplayer...depend on the video profile ! you can 720P on OSX too (but 400kb/s less on the video profile)
Enhanced display eats so much memory that opening many windows can lead to severe slowdown. Copying bitmap from vram to ram is really slow. This video shows only this behaviour that you can expect from any OS. And who opens many browser window when you have tabbed browser ?
You should try MorphOS with a 128Mb video card. You will have a harder time filling the VRAM.
You could do another test : reading the same video with MPlayer on both system. Try some 720HD content for example...
If you read the description, this behaviour happens even with 2 OWB and other applications...I just did a a test where you can measure something on different OS (as there's no benchmark). As I can't put another GFX card on the mac mini and I don't plan to buy a peg which is slower...if you want to talk about video, you'd better talk about video profiles, morphos/mplayer is about 400kb/s faster than OSX but can't read most of 720P video with the mac mini.
Part 2) It is really hard to see how much miles (years) we are still behind the rest of the world. A very lot of work for the MOS team is still to do. I hope it will once justify th huge price MOS users have to pay for always being behind.
Part 1) I am a big Amiga/MOrphos/AROS fan and I always love its speed. I throwed OSX away off my Mac mini when I bought one for MOS. Played around with it before but hated its behaviour and way of user "control". But this video is the real world. Simple tasks to compare and MOS fails so bad. The tragedy is that with its low footprint it should perform so much better but this shows the truth.
cool comparison, I just learned about morphOS and tried it out on my emac. It is much faster than OSX, but I didn't get to play around with all the apps. Maybe you could show off some of the 3D capabilities in MorphOS and then in OSX and compare that.
@yacko6 it is faster until you open 4 windows :-) As I said in the description you can avoid this by disabling the "ehanced display" but the OS looks less candy...
Soon they are going to release an OS in 3 colours like the GEM, and it will be even faster than MorphOS but it will not be able to manage more than 5 windows even if it use 10% of RAM...just kidding :)
So there are no performance advantages to Morth OS?
FAKEBC 2 months ago
@FAKEBC It boot faster (but with less features), mplayer is also faster (it can play a rate of 400kb/s more than mplayer (outdated) on OSX)...

@hectorae86
OWB isn't third party software, and OWB doesn't run a new instance at each browser window, it's totally wrong.
fab1peg 6 months ago
It has nothing to do with MorphOS and everything to do with OWB.
OWB is third party software.
The problem is this:
OWB launches a completely new instance every time you start a new or an extra one, where as Safari uses the same instance all the time.
Of course this is just a simple explanation, only a programmer would understand the issue fully.

@richardmaudsley77 I haven't turned it off on OSX. You can see the shadows etc...So the test is fair.

@gibs2b: what about the important stuff that people care about. How well does it run Amiga games and demos from the 90's ? Is it just emulation ?
Paperclown 11 months ago
@Paperclown Yes, for Games/Demos it's just the old "e-uae wip4" the same that is used on Unix OS like Linux/OSX.
gibs2b 11 months ago
@gibs2b: ...
if its just a port from WinUAE why do people buy up these old macs for? an old A1200 or one of those Minimigs would be cheaper.
Paperclown 11 months ago
you are using web sound, more browsers get more bandwidth. stupd test.
in mac just the selected browser is geting conection, the others in backgrownd stay way.
Noob test.

Did you tried the comparision with firefox? When i open 5 or 8 or more firefox windows its the same in osx ... just try it ...
hailto 1 year ago
you can use tons of tabs instead of windows and this way, there's no video memory problems ;)
for sure, the OSX monster is more polished than Morphos, but Morphos is nicer than OSX on lot of things ;)
It's another computing experience.

just wondering, is this caused by MorphOS itself or by the Origyn Web Browser ?
Maybe this application uses to much CPU.
