hey im related to jim plunkett my name is drew plunkett look me up on face book if you dont belive me he is an amazing foootball player and a really good famliy member
To me, Jim Plunkett is one of the greatest quarterbacks that has ever played the game. His demeanor from where I seat is that of a fine gentleman. Hall of Fame for Jim!
Maybe if Jim Plunkett were to have Tom Brady*s Offensive Line, he would have excelled with the Patriots. Jim Plunkett will always be one of the Better Quarterbacks in Patriots History, behind Tom Brady(Of course) and Drew Bledsoe.
I can't beleve that there is not at least a major motion picture of Mr. Plunkett the FIRST HISPANIC TO WIN THE HEISMAN! there is a movie about Ernie Davis, the first afican american to win the Heismen, why not mr. Plunkett! if he is not going to be in the HOF,we need a movie so people can learn his amazing story!
@Cadamort I agree with you 100%. While Ken Stabler is my favorite quarterback of all time, Jim Plunkett is my second favorite. But BOTH are equally deserving to be in the Hall Of Fame. And until Stabler AND Plunkett is in the Hall Of Fame, the Hall Of Fame has no real credibility. As far as I'm concerned.
@Jiltedin2007 Plunkett wasn't injury prone, that offensive line was attrocious, the same as the RAIDERS has been the last 7 years... its get QBs killed and makes them look bad. Oakland/LAs offensive line was pretty good, give Jim a little time and protection and he could lead the team to victory.
@tjstevens74 EXACTLY!!! Maybe if Jim Plunkett were to have Tom Brady"s Offensive Line back in the 70"s, or something similar to it, yes he would have more than challenged Miami or Pittsburgh for the AFC Conference and only God only knows how many Super Bowls he would have won with the Patriots.
That:s the reason why Jim Plunkett was *Injury Prone* with the Patriots. No protection.
@Iflyover If you look at his life and what he had to overcome then you know that your words are 100% correct. I find it sad that Kurt Warner gets so much attention today, but what Plunkett went through is all but forgotten.
New England was really dumb to trade away the Stanford grad and 1970 Heisman Trophy winner. San Francisco was even dumber by cutting him. Cutting a legend...what a bunch of idiots the 49ers were back then. Al Davis knows greatness. Jim Plunkett will be enshrined in Canton, as soon as the voters get some neurons.
My all time favorite football player! Jim deserves to be in the HOF, though his numbers don't support it. He had his down years, before and after the two Super Bowl wins. Oh well... They can't take away his rings or his MVP award!
@toddvtx1300 ...he is my all time favorite player as well and he does belong in the hof...If Bob Griese is in the hof how the hell is Jim Plunkett not?
Maybe it should have a sign of things to come from Al Davis, but I never understood the controversy between Plunkett and Marc Wilson. It was like watching 2 different teams. I don't think the Raiders lose to the Patriots in the 85 playoffs if Plunkett would have played in that game.
Both Jim Plunkett and Stabler where great. I'm completely biased, but I'd put Plunkett first. He was kind of like Kurt Warner who had a lot of tough seasons but came back huge with 2 superbowl victories. I'd put them both in there.
Put that way, you go with Stabler first since he's been waiting longer, and had a slightly better career. My man Jim goes second, his is a story for the ages, and while on a whole I would say he didn't have as good a career it was still more than Hall of Fame worthy. (And 2 SB rings is the icing on that cake! ;)
Plus, Kenny Stabler's teams had tougher competition in the AFC such as Pittsburgh in their prime to deal with and Plunkett had a slightly better team around him although the latter could be debatable. Personally, I think both men should be in the HOF along with Flores
Because Jim Plunkett started his Career with Sorry Patriots of the early 1970's & then to play for the Sorry 49ers of the mid 70's & spent his 1st 2 Seasons with the Raiders Backing up Ken Stabler Jim Plunkett doesn't get the Respect he Deserves as a Great QB because you didn't get to see all of his Skills until he was in his Early 30's & Finally playing for those Great Raider Teams of the Early 80's.
Jim Plunkett was clearly a Under Appreciated & Underrated QB that had he played for a good team like the Raiders for most of his Career if not whole Career would probably be in the Hall of Fame Today.
im Plunkett was resourceful, could read a defense & provided leadership. He was a gutsy, poised & proven winner. He would always use backs and tight ends as receivers. He sure looked awkward throwing & running, but he had an uncanny ability to flee the pocket at critical times. As great as the 1983 Raiders were, their receivers were not. Plunkett carried their passing game in 1983, and in 1980 he made Kenny King & Bob Chandler look much better than they actually were as players.
No quarterback with a 67.5 career QB rating should be in the hall. But his story should always be told because of his example of redemption, persistence and toughness.
@EndOfDays311 You can't possibly believe that. America respects men like Plunkett and doesn't care what race they are ( he's also 1/8 Irish and 1/8 German). It's just a coincidence that another NFL quarterback great, Joe Kapp, is also of Mexican ancestry and isn't in the Hall of Fame. This really sucks!
jim plunkett is the only non active multiple super bowl winning qb whos not in the hall of fame

We missed him in New England! Steve Grogan was good, but Jim Plunkett was better! It's a shame that he was injury prone with the Patriots.
Even though Jim Plunkett won 2 Super Bowl Rings with the Raiders, I have always associated Jim Plunkett with the Patriots!

Reppin' east San Jose! And James Lick H.S. where he also started at QB.
After all those injuries in New England and San Francisco he proved he
always had the talent to make it to the big show.....twice!
