  • I live in new york, my relatives are irish so I thought i'd pop in.

  • i'm dutch, but i really love the celtic culture (Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall and Breton in France). I think irish is one of the most beautifull languages i ever herd, so i would like to learn it.

keep up the good work and video's! GREAT!!!!!

  • Forget the written - learn the oral.

It's a complex language to learn when taking on the written too - go with the sounds.

Raidió na Life do a search streaming on line - great music

  • I can't pronounce the R sound. :(

  • It's getting a bit frustrating now, very hard to learn Irish and I'm finding myself memorising phrases rather than understanding the language you know. I wanna learn Irish :)

  • I wish I had watched this during my leaving Cert :P

    Go raibh maith agat :)

  • Brilliant lesson. It's good how you have two examples on one slide as it allows us to compare and see the small in between words such as "and". Thanks!

What's the song you've used and is there an English version?

  • The English version is called "flame" and its by Bell x 1

  • I'm interested in the music, how would I find a copy of the music you used on this one? I'm in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA and would happily trade you a Creole Jazz CD for a copy of some Irish music! Just let me know love! Thanks!

  • You'll find all the music on youtube

  • i thought irish people spoke english??

    lol. <33

  • we do but our official language is Irish. We are thought Irish at school and there are Gaeltacht areas where only Irish is spoken.

  • richmeister, please watch your language

  • whats that about?

by the way "merci bien" lol - speaking french here.

  • dkmedia, richmeister said a word with double entendre, n'est-ce pas?

  • d'accord, aimez-vous francais?

  • tout a fait!!!

  • êtes-vous français?

  • Pas de tout, mais j'espere de cela

  • Sorry, the music interferes w/learning.

I need a book, can you recommend one? I can get 25% off from Borders..Please answer me about the book.

I need a recommendation. Thank you, merci bien!

  • not being cheeky, but you can just turn down the volume so the music either mutes or is low.

I'm sorry but I can't recommend any book as I have no experience with them, and I have no idea where/what borders is.

Best thing would be to get a book with a cd, so you can listen to what irish sounds like.

I can recommend a dictionary though, its quite useful and give sentences as well as verbs. It is "Collins School Irish Dictionary" its green with the word irish in yellow. £3.99 in UK

  • Well, thank ya sir! "cheeky" = sarcastic?

Anyway, Borders Bookstore is a huge chain bookstore. I get a discount.

Thank you so much for the dictionary reference!

    You're a bud!

  • im doin gnathhleibheal could you please please give me an example of a conversation in irish pleeeeeeeassse

  • in the oral you may be asked the following:

Where you live- name the place, is it big/small, facilities there, problems in the place.

school- name the school, facilities, rules, subjects you study.

Yourself and family- name, age, hair/eye colour, height, traits. Parent(s) job, brothers/sisters description eg, name, do they work or @ school. do u get on well with them

    other topics:

-polititians, government, crime/violence, environment, economic crisis, debs, st patricks day, past times etc.

  • Since you are doing gnathleibheal pyou may not be asked the more difficult stuff such as the economic crisis etc.

  • how did you get on in the oral?

  • What's the name of the Irish song? I'm Irish and I never heard this song in Irish before? :D

I don't want the English name, just the Irish más é do thoil é :)

  • Bell X1 bladhm.

  • @dkmedia2008 Thanks :)

  • ive got me orals next friday im screwed please help me learn some sample phrases

  • dont be so worried!

did you not do a mock oral yet??

You have a week to study, an hour or two should be sufficient to learn the majority of the stuff.

    Are you doing gnathleibheal?

  • how do you say: "I like this"???

  • Is maith liom an leabhar seo = I like this book

Is maith liom e = I like it

Is maith liom an rud seo = I like this thing

  • Go maith leor

  • maith go leor. :)
