Our ad shows coal plants & none installed controls to reduce mercury & air toxics (source: industry reporting to EPA).Though EPA adopted final standards, big polluters & their Congressional allies are trying to block EPA from implementing them. Some plants in the ad may have installed required controls for other pollutants like oxides of sulfur & nitrogen. But these plants must comply w/ new cleanup standards to control toxic emissions like mercury & acid gases. We stand by the accuracy of our ads.
They filmed power plants operating on cold days to capture the large thermal plumes being emitted. The idiot public will think that's clouds of choaking polution, when it's the stacks that aren't emitting are attached to the waste sources. And why are they not emitting? Because they have scrubbers, filters, and work more effciently. Want to see old 1960's style coal burning pollution? Go to China.
I've hated this ad from the start. I keep looking for the missing, "disclaimer," assuring that, "No babies were harmed in the making of this spot." Start by stating the facts about the law and industry, and move to the point that what it can do to children can be fatal, instead of making a 15-second John Carpenter horror-movie scene for a twisted, own-cause-cheapening, exploitive shock-value, "Look-what's-up," style ad. Tactics like this are a belwether to what's wrong in fundraising itself.
You people have really stooped low to abuse the uneducated populace using scare tactics and playing on our instinct to love and care for our children. Quit misportraying facts and making people scared for the wellbeing of thier young when there is no due cause.
LOL. See those two curvy cylindrical objects? Those are cooling towers for a nuclear power plant, pumping out lots of good old fashioned steam. The ALA really doesn't have its stuff straight here, and it ruins the message of the ad.
@wyan2xO Except it's not. It contains harmful pollutants that can eat through car paint and rust the metal, not to mention cause cancer and induce asthma.
wow - really great ad!

I'm not gonna lie. Once I heard the baby cough I paused the video and disliked it.

@wyan2xO Common sense or the facts of science never factored into its creation with that one little fact, I think.
