  • I've gotten this shot in my left eye over 20x! I know the feeling... and it really isn't that bad!

  • U r so brave!

  • Ok I can't watch this video. Biut I have ocular histoplasmosis in my eyes. The right one was active and I had to get the avastin shot, that was 6 months ago, so far so good, with my vision. I go back Feb 22 for a check up. I have scarring in my left eye too but not the blurrs or wavy lines. It seems like alot of people get the avastin shots alot, so it makes me even more paranoid that even though I havent had one in 6 months, I might need one soon :( This whole thing makes me scared and nervous

  • @kendragidleu Hakuna Matata - I've had POHS in my right eye since I was 11, & in my left since I was 19. When I 11 there was no tx but sx which would take away the spot, but not the scarring and it guaranteed that you wouldn't get that sight back, but bcuz I was young, they went with the 'wait and see' approach. When I got it at 19, we found out about the injections, and I've been getting them in the left at fairly regular intervals. I like to think there will be even more in the next 8 years.

  • I would also like to say that the first doctor I went to didn't rinse the eye after words and I got the sand paper eye bad. The doctor I go to now rinses it with sterile saline rinsing out the iodine. I havn't had sandpaper eye since. Makes a huge difference.

  • I was wondering how old you are? You look very young. I am 32 and have had one avastin shot almost every three months for the past 3 years. I have also had three cold laser treatments as well followed by avastin and some sort of steroid shot in the eye. Hope its helping you.

  • I've had this done six times so far, and I'm STILL not used to it! The anxiety leading up to it is awful. It's strange; for me, some of these injections have been far more painful than others

  • I Just had my first Lucentis injection in 1 eye which I have Wet macular degeneration, I'm in my early 30's.

for me the shot was nothing. Anticipation was worse. But what was even worse was the first 4 hours after. It feels like there's sand in my eye and I cant touch it or rub it.

  • im getting that done how bad is it omg

  • r u scratching ur eye looking at this video?

  • 12 ppl r sick.

  • thanks for the post, on July 10, I have to come back to my doctor since it is my third month of having CSR, if my doctor will found out that my CSR is not getting better, I am probably a candidate for this procedure. My doctor advise me to take Avastin instead of Lucentis because it is more affordable with the same effect.

  • i get these shots too and i like katie only get the numbing drops. the needle itself is not so horrible. i mean its not pleasant but i find for about an hour or 2 after i get what i have called "acid eye" or "sandpaper eye" its verrrrry uncomfortable to even open my eye and it weeps non stop. i have had 2 in my left and 3 in my right and go back shortly for the 4th in my right. I am in canada and it is not covered here unless you are older then 65 it cost me 250 each needle.

  • I have been using Avastin every two weeks for 5 months, and it has brought me from 20/90 in one eye to20/30. In the other eye it was not getting worse, but not any better, so a steroid was injected once and went from20/200 to 20/100 and now will go back to Avastin. After awhile these shots get to seem routine.., not so bad. My doctor and his staff are the BEST !!!!!

  • You took that like a champ. I am curious as to what other injections you could take as well as this.

  • i saw this guy get an injection in the eye and said it was the most awful pain in his life.

  • I got this done many times - and I SWEAR - it looks awful, but it doesn't hurt! Just increased pressure, but definitely not painful.

  • i'm not squeamish at all but that made me feel a bit ill

  • WOOP WOOP for lucentis injections. for anyone afraid of having this done, they really don't hurt very much, there's just some uncomfortable pressure. the speculum on your eyelids can be painful though, and make sure you have eye drops because your eye will burn for about 30 minutes, after which it will just be sore for a few days.

  • Thanks so much for posting. My mother just found out 6 days ago that she has Wet Macular Degeneration and the doctor urged her to get the injections as soon as possible. She had her first injection today...just 5 days after getting a lumpectomy! One thing the eye doctor didn't tell us is how often she will need to get the injections after the course of one injection per month for six months.

  • OMG are you crazy????????? that must hurt!!!!!!!

  • Kate's got some serious balls

  • Yesterday, my little brother (21yr old) detected a blurry spot in his vision. Alarmed, he spoke out and was seen by an ophthalmologist the same day. Now diagnosed w CNV, he will soon save for a miracle have to undergo these treatments. Thank u for posting!

  • I'd probably shit myself. I can't get needles in my arms without being sick/fainting :(

  • Would stem cell injections work for WET ARMD if injections are not giving any beneficial results? Thanks.

  • ahhhhhhhhhh nooooooooooooooooooo y i watch this shit, my eyeball feel all tengaly

  • OOOH MYFCKKKK OWWIES

  • I have had this done before and will need to have many more. I have neovascular glaucoma.

  • Thanks for post. How much is the shot costing? I'm on my 5th for wet age-related macular degeneration AMD, I still have some distortion in the affected eye--but it seems to be improving. One shot (no major tests) costs $135 for office visit, $245 for injecting, and $125 for 1.25mg Avastin = $505. Insurance paid $311 and I paid $81. ($113 was adjusted down?) I take tylenol immediately and sleep a couple of hours and feel ok. Except hurt couple of days once. Not fun but doable 72yrs

  • omg... i might get a heart attack watching this... im so afraid of injection...

  • sick!!

  • whoa you didnt even flinch!

  • Hi, I have macular degeneration and I am (only) 47yrs old. I have a scotoma and I wonder how my sight will be when I get older. Does the treatment with Lucentis stop the progression of the desease or does it better the symptoms as well? Thanks for haring your opinion and experience. Luca.

  • Lucentis halts the progression of wet AMD in about 95% of the cases. In about a third of cases you can expect an improvement of vision. We inject many patients daily, and a considerable number report improvement.

  • thats hardcore

  • I still never met anyone that has OHS thats activated. I've had around 9 Avastin shots. So far it's helped some I was 20/400 now 20/70. The injection itself isn't that bad. I just hate the thing they use to keep the eye open. Nice to know there's others like me! :)

  • ooch

  • what do popped blood vessels do. i had some before and i still have 20/20 vision

  • OK..........Kate.....I am probably going to be getting those shots very soon. Just how bad is it? You seemed to handle it very well. Altho I have seen videos where other people didn't handle it that well. I was really disturbed when I read that you sometimes have to have several of these shots. I am freaked out. Do you t hink the doctor would possibly give me something to make me calmer before I go in????

  • Sorry about the late reply - have you had your injection yet? It really isn't too bad. Some doctors offer a numbing shot, but I just do the topical. Really, I would rather have one shot than two!!! :) I think the worst is the anticipation - and the prep. But the actual injection is over very quickly....and no sharp pain....let me know how it goes (or went!)

  • Avastin?

  • Yes, I have used Avastin once (yes it's a colon cancer drug) but works the same way as Lucentis only it is not FDA approved for the eye. Many doctors use it because it is affordable.

  • Whoa, did that hurt?

  • No, not really...I don't like it, but it's more pressure....maybe a little stick, but not what you think! :)

  • eeek.

  • The injections seem scary at first, but I'm a dozen deep now (for presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome), and they become second nature after a bit. Worst thing is when you get a bit of a scratch and it stings for a day or two, but almost all of my treatments have been to where I feel 90% normal after a good tranquilizer-induced nap for about 6 hours post-injection. If you need it done, take 1mg of xanax about an hour beforehand, you'll be relaxed enough to barely care, and it's over quickly

  • I think I've had around a dozen as well. I usually go back to work after the shot, so you're right, not too bad at all. How old are you.....I don't know many people with our condition!

  • Why is that injection for?

  • Ocular Histoplasmosis - most older people get it for Macular Degeneration - same symptoms, same treatment.

  • Wow .. omigod, my greatest fear, revealed. I'm a candidate for steroid injection for iritis, and this helps me to reduce the anticipation and fear. Thanks very much for sharing this.

  • Hey what is that injection for?

I have an old eyeinjury that left my right eye badly scared and blind so it looks odd. I am just searching youtube for other people with eye problems and or injuries like mine.

    interesting video take care.

  • My injections are for a condition called Ocular Histoplasmosis - they are also used for Macular Degeneration. Both have similar symptoms and same treatment.

  • Is your vision better now ?My doctor want to inject me too and im afraid...

  • If your doc wants you to do it, GO FOR IT. Lazer treatments, both hot and cold lazer, do permanent damage that will leave blind spots. Avastin injections have kept my condition stable for well over a year (done every 10 weeks), and my vision went from 20/60 back to 20/15. We've got about a decade to go before stem cell treatment will undo the damage done from leaking blood vessels, so all you can do for now is whatever it takes to keep things from getting worse, and Avastin has helped me!

  • Absolutely! I had to have the laser treatment years ago before the shot was available and yes, I have a permanent blind shot! I have also used Avastin as well.

  • Yes, it did improve my vision, although I had to have several injections 4-6 weeks apart. I've had about a dozen I believe!

  • Amazing!
