  • Arguably the greatest entertainer that ever lived. Singer, dancer, actor, player of musical instruements, side arm quick draw competitor. This man could electrify a huge crowd just by showing up. My favorite all around entertainer,..... and his "Bojangles" is just one of the many reasons why!!

  • Its a pity that such a wonderful song allows comments like the silly ones before mine.

  • Mr. Bojangles was of ARYAN descent, not of Negroid heritage...

  • @AmericanSoldierSS Yeah no such thing you human paraquat! Something called the human genome project. It's the 21st century btw.

  • @herbertchapmansgh0st Miss-use of a Big Lebowski reference. >>thumbs down

  • @rbh1138 Miss-use?! I don't know who in the hell she is but maybe she can teach you some basic grammar and spelling. Some other terms for you to Google: orthognathic, prognathic,Streptococcus mutans, proteome.

  • @AmericanSoldierSS The Bojangles in this song wasn't called Bojangles... it was a nickname, apparently. O'course, we know about Bill Robinson....

  • what a dumb ass

  • Who are the 6 morons who voted dislike?

  • @tonyocch1 6 people who didn't like either the vid or the song.. not necessarily morons. Each to their own.

  • Sammy was getting old here - he used to jump up and click his high heels when that lyric came aroud int he song. Still great though

  • I miss this old cat, I grew up watching him, he was great funnier then hell too

  • One of his best performances!!! Sammy will always be one of the best stage acts EVER!!!! True class from a gentleman of the same!!! Thanks for the post and mostly thank you Sammy!!!

  • R.I.P. Sammy

  • he was the best!!

  • I'd also like to say try to get a copy of a special concert from the 60's that Frank,Sam and Dino did fron St Louis. It was a closed circuit benefit show for only a few hundred folks. It's perfection, emceed by Johnny Carson. Sammy's performance is out of this world. Prime Sammy! Choice stuff. It's on the market.

  • @adiedo There are clips on YT of the Rat Pack at St Louis. I've had a quick scan for an official release, but couldn't find one. I've tried to post the link to the clip, but will send it by DM.

  • @adiedo Actually, can't see how I can send it DM with this new look YT

  • @adiedo The title of the clip is The Rat Pack Live - Dean Martin - 1965

  • I'm 53 and grew up watching Sammy, Frank etc on TV I also remember enjoying them but still preferring to hear the pop/rock on the radio of the 70's. When I was in my late 20's I found Tony Bennett which lead me back to Sammy and the rest. THAT, people, was talent! I'm a Sinatra freak but I miss, truly miss seeing Sammy. How grand it would be to see him on a serious talk show talking about todays music & talent. Not putting it down, just telling what he liked.

  • @adiedo Have a look at this >> Sammy Davis Jr. sings Michael Jackson's Bad (1989) << You could never say he was trapped in his own little time capsule. Copy & paste into YT search box and enjoy :o)

  • The one and only Sammy Davis Jr. forever! There has never been an artist like him.

  • I would press Like one million times if it was possible!

  • Wow...I can't believe how many moves this guy stole from Micheal Jackson!

  • @jackpeterss -MJ came after!

  • This is how someone became imortal! Amazing perfomance, truly genius!!! .

  • is jealous of anyone who was fortunate enough to have been able to see the talents of sammy, dean and frank in a live performance

  • It really is interesting that Frank carried Sam to new heights when it was needed...and towards the end when they went on the reunion tour Sam carried the show when Frank couldnt. Just a thought. I'll have another Jack and Coke and enjoy the clip...

  • Love the style...the delivery...the theater of Sammy...

  • An amazing talented man, never to be forgotten

  • Best version of this song imo, although greats such as Nina Simone have covered this as well.

  • Sometimes you fall over a song by accident on YouTube.....well there isn't much talent around like sammy today.

  • @MrJimhammer True, sadly.

  • @MrJimhammer I don't see ANYONE as talented as Sammy around these days. Come to think of it, there weren't too many who could match Sammy "back in the day" either.

  • If Sammy were alive today, and younger, he would be Michael Jackson's one and only rival!

  • I love how he sings and dances to that song .

  • compare this man with today talents eg brittany spears...it's like they're from two different worlds. today's society misses one thing and one thing only,,,,,,,class

  • talent knows any race!! Your either got it or you don't !!!!!!!

  • Sammy had the most loving voice ever, and I always loved him as a child...

  • great video of sammy merry christmas

  • Never have performances like this ever again, legends to music and the world who will always be remembered. No dancers, no special effects and no big lights, just one man, one band telling an amazing story.

  • This performance always gives me a lump in my throat. Rest in peace Sammy

  • Thanks for posting Awasome !!!

  • I saw Sammy in concert at Melody Land across the street from Disneyland in the early 70's. He was a talented man.

  • Man, he was so talented.

  • Can we shut up about the Japanese writing and appreciate the greatest entertainer of all time?

  • Thank you for posting! Love this song!!!

  • Sammy...Oh! Won't you come back and dance? Please, Sammy....

  • The dog just got old and died...

  • this is LIVE! no autotune!! yeah buddy!

  • Shut up with the damn sensitive racial crap....enjoy the music. Get some ass or something

  • @Forgemno Nobody was being racist. There was an issue with regards to writing and language (due to my 'squiggly' comment), but nothing racist.

  • What a performer this man was!

  • He is art in motion, love seeing this. Thanks for sharing it!

  • dude Japanese writing is older then English so stop knockin it

  • @WhiteWorgenCorp I wasn't knocking it.

  • @WhiteWorgenCorp Touchy, aren't you ? Indian writing is older than Japanese too."English" writing is Roman, or Latin. Both use "arabic" numerals, which is bullshit, because it has nothing to do with arabs. It was from Buddhist India, as was the concept of zero. But english rules now, because it is so versatile, and has been before the USA too.

  • @PhilK5100 its hard to get sarcasm across through writing -_-

  • Imagine seeing that guy do that live

  • Do you realize this man died only a year later of throat cancer?

  • Pure class

  • RIP.

  • " squiggly " ?? its Japanese !

    Great performance !

  • @inapoi I know lol. I was pointing out my lack of understanding of Japanese rather than criticising Japanese writing.

  • @kara1464 Its ok :) thank you !

  • What a great talent Sammy was. The effort he put into all his performances was unbelievable. The so-called entertainers of today couldn't shine this guy's shoes.

  • I believe Sammy was an atheist. Probably ain't playin' to the angels.

  • @MrDanBlather If believing it makes people happy, then he probably is playing to the angels.

  • @MrDanBlather He was Jewish.

  • @MrDanBlather He aint singing to anybody but his original Ratpack mates, including a little known Italian crooner called Francis Sinatra. Perhaps you've heard of him. O'h and somebody called called Dean Martin, who i believe used to do a bit of singing to compliment his acting job.

  • @MrDanBlather

    I thought he was Jewish.

  • @Mrdumbassass You can be born to any religion and still be atheist. I was born CofE and I'm anti-theist.

  • @kara1464 Sammy wasn't born a Jew, he converted.

  • @jimmythegoy I'm hardly caring anymore. If it makes people happy to feel that he's playing to the angels, then let him play to the angels. That is all I was saying in response to someone saying he wasn't because he was atheist.

If it makes people happy, then there's nothing wrong with that.

  • @Mrdumbassass yes , he was . True you can believe in a higher force without being religious . My friends are and me , too ^^

  • no one could ever do this song like sammy jr did.....he was the best talent any stage has ever or will ever see

  • all i can say is thanks!

  • Aw what a heavenly voice! I actually like the Japanese subtitles and trying to sing them along with Mr. Davis Jr. but unfortunately my Japanese is no way near that good yet!

  • Class !!

  • bill robinson

  • excuse me, there must be something in my eye...

  • 0:18 michael jackson

  • 4 people have no soul

  • The greatest entertainer that has ever lived. No one comes close to Sammy.

  • i just cry when i watch this i was lucky enough to see sammy only just one time and am so glad and a better person for the experience ,,, thank u mr bojangles

  • ahhhhhhhhhhh sammy hope your having the last laugh.........read someone even took your glass eye when you died..................well shame on them.............rip.x

  • i wish he was still around, there would be at least some good music if he was still around, anyway, AMAZING!!!!!

  • Sammy Davis Jr. - probably the most talented entertainer that ever lived.

  • You just can't beat pure genius and talent...

  • When Dean martin was asked what was his opinion of Sammy Davis Jr. Dean responded with "Sammys the single greatest entertainer ever" and he is right, Mr. Davis could do it all, Act, Sing, Dance, impersonations, etc.and he did it all at TOP level, plus he was a beautiful human being!! R.I.P. Sammy Davis Jr.

  • wow he was a mj back in the day

  • sammy's in heaven and has everyone dancing and laughing......amen

  • So sad that talent isn't required for today's singers and entertainers!

  • sammy davis jr,michael jackson,frank sinatra,dean martin,elvis preslsy,

wow god has them all for his heaven concert amazing, wow what talent

THERE WILL NEVER BE TALENT LIKE THIS AGAIN EVER

  • Sammy D J - owns Mr B.J -could have been written for him..

  • cool man cool!

  • Im a metal head but always loved Sammy, RIP Sammy Davis Jr

  • Hard to believe he only died a year after this performance, he looks so full of life!

I'm sorry pop stars, but you can never meet this kind of standard, Sammy owns that standard an he took it with him to his own club in the sky baby

  • Every song that Sammy performed was his finest, reaching a level into the heavens. A year before this, in 1988, Sammy performed "Music of the Night" from Phantom on the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. The video is up here and he does a spectacular job, totally wearing himself out. I believe that the cancer was already in him. My wife and I saw Sammy perform live here in Philadelphia back in 1982. He danced like James Brown and Michael Jackson, did lots of imitations, drums, jokes, tapping etc.

  • @HandwhistlerBen He wasn't called Mr. Entertainer for nothing! He was and is the original all around performer...no one can match him...ever...

  • This was only a year before he died and probably had throat/larynx cancer at this time. What a performer who gave it all.

  • Via master-to-be (already is) to the roots. So-o-o beautiful. These tears ain't enough. Oh well.

  • Best ever! Thank you Sammy for Best Performance . 5 Stars

  • May they both RIP .SAMMY AND MJ Missed but never Forgotten

  • The greatest performer before MJ ..Sammy Passed the tourch to Michael..

  • @bigphilyd58 Mr. Davis, the Nicholas Bros, the Hines Bros, Ben Vereen, MJ, and Usher all studied Mr. Robinson - and each other.

  • thank god somebody recorded this version.....this is the zenith....no subsequent renditions will even come close

  • Lovely.

  • Awesome is not even near enough good. This is talent. He will be missed forever. Peace, Ma Terese

  • This whole performance really puts me at ease.

  • Beautiful song performed by the best, Sammy Davis Jr, always makes me smile, well done, sure loved a dog like Mr B and miss her big brown eyes; thanks

  • 1:13 so thats where the great michael jackson got that move from

  • great voice

  • First class all the way baby! God bless

  • Oh good lord I'm crying. I first commented on this video over a year ago, and the replies I got back were beautiful<3 83 people liked my comment and 13 beautiful people said such lovely things to me. I'm 16 now, and yes, I do still listen to this. This has brought a tear to my eye, I've been struggling recently with the death of my grandad, and this has made me so incredibly happy, the love from you guys and the song<3 god bless you all<3

  • @LauraSHmurphAy Good for you im glad to see a young person enjoy this great style of music.

  • Respect

  • JUST GOT CHILLZ !!!! MY FAV SONG TO HEAR HIM SING!!!!!!

  • can you say, Goosebumps?

  • I first heard this song as a reggae version by John Holt, but I find Sammy's version so much more meaningful. Love this particular performance which I think is better than the recorded version. Beautiful music!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I have a picture on my wall of Sinatra, Martin, Lawford, Bishop, and Davis Jnr - no need to mention their other names - The Rat Pack - sadly missed now !!

  • He had class!!

  • rip rat pack

  • Tears in my eyes, sighing in sincere grief... can' t these talents live for ever...

  • Hey thank you for your reply to Sammy being a TRUE LEGEND. Facinating and great to hear. I read his biography when I was 11. What an amazing person he was as well as a true performer. I love all his songs .... Mr Bojangles is a special song which I always love to sing...

  • Watch these videos very carefully....artists like this will never come again. Sammy was a national treasure.

  • I luv this song, such a tall tale being told with so much heart. Its a shame you dont hear much of this sorta music on the radio anymore but i accept that times change and its up to the fans too keep this gr8 music alive. But i cant help but get abit frustrated wen listenin too this sort of music and seeing comments saying thing like 'im only 13 an i love this', it almost segregates the genres acordin to age, when reli it doesnt make a diference how old u r,it can be enjoyd by anyone, its ment 4 all

  • what a great man

  • Old school. Talent from the heart and soul not from some @#$! machine.

  • I heard Sammy is doing 5 shows a night up in Heaven...

    Standing Room Only.... :-)

  • @HippieJimi Yes he is, And it is very hard to to get tickets. The word is that St. Peter has been scalping them for 5 times the face value. Miss you Sam !!!!!

  • @HippieJimi

    Nice one x

  • @HippieJim That's a ticket I would pay for.........saw him in LV in 1959......probably is a little bit better now....!!

  • Ahh Sammy, you did it well ~~~ a true legend

  • Born to be an entertainer!

Those were the days, well before the technology and real estate crash!

  • SAMMY DAVIS JR. - A TRUE LEGEND!! THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SONGS TO SING.

  • @scottchapmansinger THIS Man was a TRUE MAN in my Life - i remember him on ALL in the Family - when he kissed ARCHIE BUNKER!!! That was soooooo Great ! I was a kid then and proved to my father that we could all get along !

  • What a 'package of TALENT???? A great loss to all mankind and the entertainment field.... There'll never be anyone as powerful as he....

  • The absolute best version of this song is right here.

  • i am enjoying this kind of music so much it is just real music clear and directly .

  • I am loving the comments from all the 20 somethings out there...it's really good to know he is a talent that will not be forgotten. The song was written by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band...back in the 70s I think..but Sammy did it so well..as he did everything...suffice it to say...he was a one of a kind.

  • @davehutchinson67

actually was written by Jerry Jeff Walker. not many folks can do a cover better than the original but this is definitely the best!

  • sounds amazing for a man diagnosed with throat cancer in 89, the man is amazing

  • Super ! thanks

Now this man was really talented , he was a great dancer , actor , and singer !

not like today ,a dumb actor with only muscles !

    sorry for my bad english (;

  • Im 16 and this is my favorite song ever. Simply WOW!

  • @2waddy2 I'm FIFTEEN and I can't stop listening to this song, :,) beautiful

  • Sammy was the coolest kat around, RIP

  • wanna fuck with me pow

    woooooh!

  • You either got it or you ain't...

  • Goosebumbs, the great Sammy Davis jr. ! - what more can you say. Sadly missed this talent nowadays with all that rubbish who dares to walk on a stage and asks money for it.

  • I am speechless.

  • They should rewrite the definition of cool in the dictionary. Cool and instead of having the definition of the word, just have a picture of Sammy Davis Jr. If there was a award for Baddest Mother Fucker Ever, Sammy would get it period. Screw all these modern performers who "Think" they're the shit, they aren't anything compared to Mr. Sammy Davis Jr.

  • Very Very Good. True Talent. One of the greats!

  • Incredible, just absolutely amazing the way he conveys this song.

I choked up in a couple of parts, and i'm not ashamed to say it.

  • Kara, I had no Idea, that Mr Davis, G#d give him peace covered this.

it is a great clip, but I still like the original Jerry Jeff Walker, who met the man and wrote the song....it works as a production number to my surprise and delight...but I have to prefer the drunk white texan, and his geetar....

to each his own...but Mr Davis was GREAT. thanks

  • yes, this great entertainer is long gone now, but thanks to videos like this one he can live on and on...he can touch the lives of many generations to come...none were as big a talent as this little man was...he was one of the great ones...timeless...a man of many talents...he was a very good actor as well, if you see any of his movies i am sure you will agree....

  • is he dead?

  • mmm...No one ever sang this song better than Mr.Davis...and no one ever will. WHat a great great man he was. Allround entertainer, with both feet on the floor and always so polite.Yep...Singers these days surely can learn a thing or 40 from the old "cats"....

  • many have tried, but none measure up to mr sammy davis jr

  • legend !!

  • agree with Kara...sammy is not a man to mess with even with the antics he did

hey sammy. y ou is the best

  • I lift my hat for Sammy!

Heard this song with Robbie Williams. He does it great, but this man was amazing.

  • Um verdadeiro gênio!!! Ainda bem que existe o Youtube, que nos dá a oportunidade de ver essa raridade.

  • Man, Sammy only lived about another year after this concert. Performed his heart out while he was hurting I'm sure. He knew he had throat cancer but didn't want his larnyx removed. Didn't want to give up his voice. Brave man for sure.

  • Sammy Davis Jr. had this animated, story-teller like manner about his dancing and singing. He had it from an early age, its evident in the youtube video of him dancing & singing at the age of 7. Watch that one too.

  • Sammy Davis Jr. was one of those entertainers that did what he did effortlessly. I have this song on my iphone and feel quieted from all the rush of the day by this song. He's one of the people that helped make DAVIS as a last name that much more of an honor to carry. Oddly there are no men in my family - not even my e/dad - with the last name DAVIS, and I'm always happy to hear of successful people with same last name. Watch Bojangles videos too. He really did what the song says he did.

  • I wish music was still like this. I feel bad for the kids now days smh.

  • :)

  • Regardless to what his last state was when he died, the bible says that your works shall live long after your gone. Sammy did a lot of good works through his entertainment.

  • a real legend,, wow wish i could have met him,,, MR. DAVIS I KNOW YOUR HAVING FUN MR DOUG MY POP AND ENJOYING HIS HAMHOCKS ENJOY HEAVEN I MISS HIM CAROLYNN DANCING WITH YOU, P.S CAROLYNN KISS KATIE,,, LOVE YOU ROGER

  • 素敵!!

    会ってみたかったな!!

  • Beautiful

  • makes me cry everytime I hear it..simply beautiful

  • Awwwe-some! No one sings Mr Bojangles like Sammy Davis Jr. I miss his voice and talents. I am glad his music is on You Tube. Thank you, for posting it.

  • @CatholicView I agree that his version is priceless, but I just listened to the Tom Jones w/Sammy Davis dancing and my gosh Tom Jones can sing this song and he's hot and great to look at toooooo ..Grrrrrr.

  • This give me chills ! Thank ! I remember watching

  • why am i having trouble downloading from this site?

  • one of the greats of humanity-
