  • A fascinating time capsule. I would have thought there would have been more men wearing hats.

  • Its still the same

  • The true Melbourne - the beautiful city of my childhood. Love those wide streets, W trams and the Foys Santa. And definitely the prettiest woman ever to walk out of a block of high-rise flats :-)

  • see how clean the place looked without asians and muslims, used to be a nice place

  • 3.30 FB Holden, had one of those, also Beetle bug too, Melbourne was my city, 6pm closing and the city just died as everyone left for the suburbs.

  • Awesome work posting these. Haven't gone through them all as yet but it seems as if only the Sydney film gets the VO. Interesting...

  • @scotv Thanks. Some others have voice overs too but not all of that series does - not sure why. Couple more to post in that series as well.

  • Golliwogg is considering visiting Melbourne on his World Tour, and is looking for new fans in the area.

  • The quality of this film is impeccable. An amazing piece of preserved Melbourne history.

  • Wow. I would love to remake this film shot for shot in 21st century Melbourne.

  • The Golden era when Melbourne was full of.....well.....OZZIES!

  • GO YOU DEMONS!!!!

  • Phwoar, the guy on the phone at 13.28 is HOT!!!!

  • To think, there was a time when people would wear a tie to the football...

  • almost fell off my seat with laughter at the massage scene from nowhere

  • Wow, this was my city!!?? :)

I took photos from exactly the same angle as those first two shots....except of course it looks much different now!!

  • So sad to see this film. The beautiful Australia now lost.

  • @MrLiftHog How true...Our cities are now filled with scum and dirt, China'Town stinks like rotten fish...

  • @MrBumnut1234 You think that China Town smelling that way is new? Or that our cities used to be pristine? The shots chosen for this film were aimed to promote the city. They chose the best parts! Just as they would now.

  • @DonnnixD

    And you.

  • Respond to this video... Awesome Melbourne!!!

  • @DonnnixD And thank goodness for that. Wonderful people that bring amazing culture and cuisine that I never had in the 60s.

  • see how quickly overpopulation and bad planning can ruin things?

  • Melbourne represent! ;)

  • what a honey

  • 6:15 lady is beautiful

  • This is so cool.. I'm only 17 and I've lived in Melbourne my whole life. It's cool to see how all these places I know so well used to be.

  • Having a few cheeky pots at lunch time ey fellas. Not much changes.

  • @00:47 makes me thinks of parts of London today, brilliant video, thanks!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you, Film OZ. please keep this up. And hassle the C'wth for more funding to make these films available.

  • @paparia1969 Will do.

  • Meg from 'Prisoner'!

  • @Bang72100 Elspeth Ballantyne

  • My parents visited Melbourne a few years ago. They loved it!

  • The Collingwood Vs Melbourne footage at the start may of been the 1964 grand final?

  • Was this a propaganda film to entice young workers from the UK?

  • The football match at the beginning was before 1966 too, because Melbourne, the side in red and blue had missed the finals that year. It is probably 1964, because Ron Barassi is playing; he went to Carlton in 1965.

White people still can't dance and that 'bouncer' at the nightclub door is still working, lol.

  • Although dated at 1966, the shots around 7:00 (in the Holden engine factory) would have been shot in 1965 (149 cubic inch engines are shown being built, the 1966 Holdens didn't have those). Around 13:15, all the finished Holdens in the yards are 1965 (HD) models - long gone by '66...

  • @Conniptions886 Yes well spotted. The production dates were usually given at the completion of the production which in this case was '66 even though production may have started much earlier. It's also possible that some material was used from other productions. CFU / Film Australia were great cannibals of their own material. Thanks for the detail.

  • Young woman getting into the EK Holden at around 4:00 is actress Elspeth Ballantyne.

Older gent getting off the TAA helicopter around 8:15 is actor Kenric Hudson (other guy is an actor, too - can't remember his name!)

  • Yes Perth and Adelaide to come but also check out Postcard From Perth which is already up.

  • GREAT stuff here. Any episodes on Perth or Adelaide?
