  • 1:57 ahhh this is so relaxing !!

    2:20 here comes the climax

    2:33 nice riff :X

    2:40 ????? !!!!!!!!!

    anyway Mr.Smorenberg rocks !!!!!!!

  • check out my trick shots they are sweet. click on my name and go to my channel

  • Hi. I use to play only piano, so I am new in the digital synthe world and I bought this synthe recently and I'd like to know if there is a training course or other learning options of how to use this machine. I just have the operator manual and few demos I found in youtube. Thanks ReddevilNumber10 or who ever answer this question.

  • how to name the song that plays Martyna in the video? please

  • "I don't know who he is, but he seems to be a good singer."

Were you joking? That was MARVIN GAYE on VOCALS singing his 60's hit I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE.

Never heard of Marvin Gaye??? Hint: Before England had the Beatles the Beatles were listening to Marvin Gaye. Nice demo just the same.

  • what is the song and the artist who sings in minute 3:50!!!!!!!????????

  • dear mom

  • @Itlfrari, my Sweetwater rep suggested the reason you are having problems with your Yamaha S70XS, is that you have a defective unit, did you try and return it? Thank's!

  • What song is that at 1:56 O_O so nice!

  • Awwsome video! I just bougth a week ago! Wooopii!

  • BY THE WAY YOUR PLAYING IS BEAUTIFUL!

  • Yamaha.... A bunch of Perfectionists!

  • This dude has 3 brains....

  • I don't think this guy actually played a full song on it because I have an S70XS and I would not recommend it to anyone, poor sound, drops notes, gets lost. Oh and has terrible harmonics on the c#, D and D# keys in the s6 sample 2 octaves below middle C.

    My recommendation, buy something else.

  • Have you considered taking the piano back to Yamaha and having them check it out? Preferably while it's still under warranty!

  • what song does he play on the piano during 2:30 ?

  • Can it mimic the bassoon?

  • This guy is awsome!

  • That's the most energetic product demo I've ever seen.

  • @pepsiflash Then you should watch "watch?v=sR7EmNRIt5c". It's him again, only more energy!

  • can anyone tell me how many effect on this yamaha s70xs

  • sound on this is nice but not as good as the Yamaha xs or XF. the sound is much fuller on them, but is this newer or older

  • @ElliotLakeCanada This is a XS fyi

  • Hey everyone I was hoping someone could help me out with a question please?

I am very interested in buying one of these keyboards, however, whilst I know that it has DAW functionality with Cubase, does it also work with Avid Pro Tools? And can you use it as a MIDI controller for any kind of MIDI recording with computer, such as if I was writing a score in Sibelius?

Thanks in advance, any help would be much appreciated :)

PS the demonstration guy is awesome!

  • @MusicFilmLife You could certainly use it as a midi controller but read the instruction manual on Yamaha's website for more information.

  • Have had my S90ES for several years...and as good as that is...the S90XS sounds very cool indeed...Will have to check it out...However the price is rather steep...I am told..

  • how the fuck do you not know who that singer is........

  • Does it have sequencer? i think that this is the ONLY great difference between this and MOTIF XS, isnt it?

Im thinking about get one of those... :D

  • @kolaneri If you can afford an XS, honestly, get one.

  • 1.55 to 2.40 really nice!!!

  • 7:00 "especially when your dutch you always want to have stuff for free" LOL!

  • como se llama el tema que toca la chica al final?

  • this may sound silly but do i need a amp to play it or the s70 have speaker itself

  • You are the best demonstrator! Best regards. You convinced me to buy s70.

  • he's hyper.

  • Beutifull Girl...

  • wooooah martina is really hot

  • can anyone tell me what is the different between S90XS and S70XS

  • @neojunhao 76 or 88 keys

  • can anyone please let me know if there has been and update to this keyboard? and how much can i get it for? thanks

  • can we connect motif rack xs with yamaha s90xs?

  • Can anyone recommend a keyboard that can cover my needs? I play in a jazz duo with a drummer, and no bass-player; I also play solo on thursdays. The styles that I play are jazz, pop, rock, and latin.

  • One big reason why I want this keyboard is because of this guy. roflmao

  • Does anyone know how many different voices can be layered with the s90/s70???

  • @yamank2 I think it's only two layers of voices. In the fantom G you can layer eight voices, and that's why i'm buying a fantom instead.

  • @Pianoui Fantom G is a workstation, SX70/90 isn't.

  • @Pianoui I think you're mixing up elements and voices. While you can only layer two full voices, each voice can have up to 8 so-called elements. In this regard the Motif XS has the same capabilities as the Fantom G or X.

  • 7.03 hahahaha That´s true... I can tell!

  • very informative but your hands are distracive. otherwise its sweet!

  • especially if your dutch because we always like free stuff. HaHa

  • i love that guys demos. he explains synths very well

  • wonderful man..."Schizofrenic Organ sound" (3:18) :D you find in your display with this name ! Bert number one

  • I want to know when he did the song heard it from the grape vine , can you mute out the vocal track?

  • This thing is amazing. You could do a whole CD with this thing. for 2400 dollars thats not really a bad price. i really want this keyboard.

  • this guy s so spontanious . i like him a lot

  • just wondering, is there anything an s70xs can do that a motif cant?

I REALLY like this keyboard but why spend the extra $ if i can just get the motif?

  • @akarc24 The s70xs has better piano sounds

  • Whats the difference in the s90 xs and the tyros 3 ?

  • @sharris49 haha fail

  • Le tyros 3 est un arrangeur, le s90 à la fois un synthé et un piano de scène

  • Yamaha Rocks.... And so does Mr.Bert Smorenburg! You are really a perfect performer..... S70Xs has everything required for live performance as well as studio recording..... So, its just too complete to hunt for other workstations.....

  • Does somebody know where I can download the midi file that he plays. It's "vreemde handen" by Marco Borsato. Or does someone have it and could send it to me?

    Thanx!

  • @Wutzmaus He used to play in the Borsato band as stand in I believe, so I doubt it's a public midi. :P

  • s70xs is just.....what we say YAMAHA

  • hmmmmm! al jarreau !!!! in 1st great !!!!!

  • Does the arpeggiator transmit its 4-part data to MIDI out and/or USB to record in a DAW or drive other external synths?

  • Martyna becomes Poland ;P Dobra robota! :)

  • "You have to hold your Head like this. You have to trie to look as smart as you can. I'm dutch, so for me it is very easy"- LOL

  • Just bought the s90xs two days ago. I'm extremely impressed!!! I owned a Yamaha C7 grand piano and the new S6 piano reminds me of that. It's smooth, understated, with subtle attack and precision in the character. The best discovery I made was that the keyboard made my Ivory pianos play better somehow over my previous Yamaha P-300 keyboard. Actually the difference was substantial, as if Ivory was in a fog. Best keyboard I've owned so far!!! Go get one NOW! s90xs kills em all!

  • Always fun to watch bert's videos. Hope to see more soon....

  • martina ti vorrei Fottere!!!

  • Bert is a really good player. Yamaha synthesizers look better than Roland's ones not because of their actual quality but because of his performance.

  • He is a real asset

  • I want to hear him play more...

  • but why it's so long...yamaha come on...

  • what u mean so long?

  • it's 5 inches longer(wider) then it should be.

  • Oh I see... Yeah I don't see what's the point of that either... but it does sound amazing, I've played it in person numerous times!!

  • yes, it does sound great. I have motif XS and it's same engine. The length is a problem for gigging.

  • But hey, where else can you find a heavy weighted 76key keyboard? Atleast that's a plus!!!

  • For example Nord Stage 76 (EX).

    Or Fatar VMK- series.

  • the first introducing funk song is (roof garden/ al jarreau) and the second funk song is a remake of I Heard It Through The Grapevine originally by marvin gaye

  • How does this compare to a Roland RD though? I am considering getting the RD700GX, but this is cheaper, so I'm wondering if it's better too? 1 thing I like about yamahas is the separate modulator..I dont know why Roland decided they needed to put it together with the pitch bend...

  • Hi every one... a question please....Are the Drum patterns i mean the rythms ready to be played or you have to record them first. ? Thax !

  • is there a transpose function on motif xs too...

  • yes but u have to go to menu, but is way to complicated to do live preformance with motif than with s90xs..

  • thanks for the info bro..ve a nice day

  • sure.. seems like now days all synths have it...

  • THEY ALWAYS EXAGGERATE factory sounds with things we wouldnt use.... yes they over overmoduated. and over 'tremelo'd.... just go in a change them. dont go by factory sounds they ALWAYS suck....i wish they didnt have to make you work so hard to get the sound you want....i dont care if this piano is 10,000mb... its not great.. im taking IVORY onstage.... but the synth is VERY good...and performance patches have endless possibilies. tweak a couple of grand piano's and layer them in a multi.

  • Has anyone loaded the s90es piano sample into the s70/90xs yet? I heard it can be done.

  • i got the elec piano's to spank... use the eqs theres a four band and a three band in the edit common... use a bit of cutoff frequency... use a compressor too.... change velocity curve to SOFT.

  • fill ins Hahaha oh god dude, please raise the bar, we're talking about flagship synths here. Not cruiseship keyboards

  • those piano's didnt sound nasally to y ou? are you actually a piano player ?????

  • I just got my s70xs and i don't like the piano S6 sound. i agreee w/ mysticradio, nasaly is an excellent description. Didn't the yamaha people hear this? First and formost i bought this to be my live performance piano/electric piano. I was excited about the 76 note real action option. What did they do to my beloved vintage 74 rhodes sound? My original motif patch sounds so much better. They over modulate effect. Is ther a way to get the s90es piano sample into this board, it needs it........

  • I am looking to buy a board with 88 weighted keys, does this S90XS suit my requirement?please suggest..or is Kurzweil PC 3 better?

  • weighted.... yeah... action... great ;)

  • s90xs

  • I absolutely love my s9xs... for those who are complaining about fill-ins... go back to your Casio... my question is... I have a great "live" drummer who I gig with. I have always felt like the drums are nothing more than an glorified metronome anyway. Not many performers giging use the drums anyway. As for the keyboard... excellent for the "live" performance. Great job... Yamaha...

  • yes you have to tweak the eq's like crazy..... but the lower block sounds weird.... notes dont blend in chords the same as ES

  • no fill ins its a peice of shit...end of story,.

  • Unless this keyboard has fillins like Tyros intros and four vairations and endings with arpeggios with midi clocks to sync arpeggio with styles bpm , fill ins with drum tracks is a must have it creates Dynamics in the music movement and if this board dont do it Yamaha has done nothing new but added a vocoder and a knob to ware out on a extra heavy keyboard, hope the price is that heavy.

  • All that costs the yamaha s70 xs and s90 xs

  • if you liked the piano in the ES.. you will NOT like the XS version... the upper registers were improved.... but the lower ones are middrangey and thin.... sounds like there is a layer of fog ....you have to eq the crap out of it to get a decent sound. MY old ES sounded much better. So im buying it back.. dont get me wrong. the synth itself is nice.. but i play piano primaarily and it doesnt have the same feel at all...even the new keys dont feel the same.. and in some patches there is a latency

  • hey mysticradio! i should have listened to you and you to yourself as well ... haha. i got it last week and i'm not too happy with it. i bought it for playing piano in the first place and there is not a single piano voice that is really fun to play. i can't explain what it is, it just doesn't feel right, depending what you are playing it's more or less bad (or at least not good). you are right with the EQ thing, you always feel the need to tweak something. i had a look a an RD-700 GX today ...

  • i'm not really sure about the RD yet, so I will have a closer look the next days at a store in cologne, but at a first glance i would say it feels and sounds better. the keyboard is better anyway, and the pianos also felt better to play. there was a problem around a certain range, but maybe that's the headphones, so i will use my own one the next time.

by the way: the worst keyboard would sound great under the influence of Bert Smorenburg, so before spending 2.300 euros first test it yourself!

  • haha...dude dont complain about the little screen...even tho it would of been way better with a bigger one..(yamaha*hint,hint*) the sound quality is what matters and as i see it it is very nice. IMO :)

  • and i have a hard time reading the little screen...... AND I PAID 900 MORE after selling the ES.. i should have listened to myself. and bought the XS rack and kept the Es...... now im stuck

  • what the %$#@ ???????? i got the S90xs..... and this new S6 is BOXY, MID-NASALLY..... i couldnt beleive it... so far in headphones. My S90ES piano had MUCH more spank and intelligebility.... what did they do? I'll let you know when i put it though speakers

  • ahhhhhhh screw it... i'll buy an S70xs...... but seems yamaha doesnt listen to its customer base... BIG SHOT CORPORATION doesnt need to listen I suppose

  • i got an email from SKB .. and the longest case they make is 57'' long..... and the S90xs is 58'' .. what are we to to besides buy the S70xs... why doesnt yamaha make a frickin case for this if they are going to go oversized..... always something

  • is it me... or is yamaha making these S series longer and longer..... its soooo hard to find a case for these things that arent like 500 dollars... why dont they frickin make cases for these oversized monsters. gawd.

  • its only updated as far as the S6 'aged wood'' piano

other than that its a motif xs buts. Makes sense a stage piano has the best piano sample... cause the piano on motif is good enough for workstation demos' and live. you see LOTS of yammy motifs on tv.

  • is this supposed to be the updated motif xs6?

Looks interesting and worth a look at in person.

I own a Motif xs tho, and afraid to buy the same keyboard with a different face. Does it have the same sounds?

  • the thing i like about the XS is its SUPPOSED to have multi samples that you can play real light passages. Not just softer velocities of HARD HIT samples.

Every time they say they come up with a new piano...i dont hear leaps and bounds difference. but i will surely test one out.

  • I only suggest that set up if you ALREADY had an S90es... not both together....

if you are buying for the first time... then yes by all means go with the XS model.

or.. but a used S90es cause lots of people will be dropping their ESs to get the XS

and the S90XS is 5 pounds heavier.. god knows why...but yamaha is mysterious , people were already complaining about the ES weight... go figure.

or if you wanna go even cheaper... get the XS rack and get a inexpensive LIGHT WEIGHT controller...

  • thanks for your answer! i have ordered an S 90 XS today and i'll let you know what i think about it. :)

  • well...... when you layer on these machines you lose polyphony fast. Especially if you play piano and do an arpeggio with your sustain down... there is cut off points.

The S90XS will be the same. but with 128 on the ES and 128 on the rack.. you have double the power.... and will sound way more HUGE than one synth. You can do stacks on the rack.. then leaves the piano to be a piano...... make sense?

  • yes, makes sense, thanks. but this combination is even more expensive. can you (or anybody else) help me with another question? somebody wrote a comment on youtube that the s90es would be better than an s90xs but did not explain why. do you have an idea what this could be? i'm about to buy one of these and i am really interested in opinions of users who know these machines.

  • i think its time Yamaha gave the stage piano synths.. some of the TYROS supersounds.... yep I sure do....

  • An update on the prices. I've seen the S90XS for £2039 and the S70XS for £1999. With regards to the screen, I bet it's very similar, if not the same, as the one used on the Motif XS rack.

  • except for a few bells and whistles.. not MUCH difference between that and S90es, so i think one would be better off with S90es and a Motif xs rack together....

  • hi mysticradio, can you explain why i would be better off with a s90es and a motif rack?

  • Comment removed

  • Should have 8 faders like the Motif xs

  • SMALL SCREEN :(

  • @acetatostereo You play with the screen or with the keys? the whole point is to have the functions as close as it gets with buttons.

  • Marco Borsato song on the 142MB Piano? Love the tune!

  • Which song of Marco Borsato?

  • I'd love to have that s6 Natural Grand in my Motif XS8.. :D Sounds awesome!

  • I love s90es.... yamaha must read the wishlist in lover forums before sell new products... ok?

  • On Dolphinmusic or something (musical shop online in england) they wrote that the Web Price for the S90XS is £2822.00.

This might be bad news for european people who wants to buy it =/

  • Now i saw that the price on Musiciansbuy is $2399.99 for S90XS in U.S and it says they get it in store in august.

I don't know if what i'm saying is 100% correct but this is the information i have gotten out of a little research.

  • Impressive machine. Would anyone like to buy me one? ;)

  • I think I'll buy this instrument. The sounds are simply brilliant and the surface is full of controls which, as Bert says, is very convenient. What I don't know is the price (in EUR). These machines will come on the market in Europe on September, I think.

  • I'm kind of dissapointed about the screen on this board. It is so small, they should use something like the Motif XS screen, or atleast the ES screen.

  • which is the song he plays with piano and midi file??

  • I would to know which is the song too (it's very very nice). Please anybody!!!!

  • I think its "vreemde handen"

    cheers!

  • Hey..thanx for the name of the song

  • looks like I ll fall in love wid this:D

  • help i want to get a piano that makes awesome beats for techno and stuff. should i get the yamaha motif xs8 or these? price don't matter.

  • It depends really, the Motif XS8 is a complete workstation, with built in song creation and voice editors.

While the S90XS is more reliant on a computer/DAW to do all of that. Its biggest strength is it provides an excellent piano voice and performance mode for stage.

Sound-wise they are identical except the S90 has a better piano. The S90 is a good choice If you use a computer to make songs. If you'd like to be able to do all that on the keyboard, then its the Motif.

  • "Obviously having pretty looking nails is more important to her. Says a lot about her mindset."

What mindset would that be then? And please do post a link where we can see the videos of you demoing gear by a company you're endorsed by...

  • It isn't a prerequisite to have talent or even be good to get endorsed by a company, image is more important.

  • kurzweil has 64 mb rom (small samples) and with vast and effects they try to 'stretch' the sound, and there are 32 layers per sound for some orchestral setups making it sound realistic.

i would just get the PC2R rack for the orchestral sounds and VAST but everything else: motif xs!

  • motif xs blows the kurzweil pc3x away for almost all sounds (winds, brass, guitars, drums). EP is on par imo. organs/orchestral are the only 2 categories where the pc3x is better than the motif xs.

but then again with motif xs, if you don't like a sound, you can download sample libraries...can't do that with pc3x: no audio input or sampler.

pc3x has VAST and analog modeling...but overall, the xs kills the kurzweil...kurzweil fans will beat their chest and cry, but its the truth!

  • I would like to add that it would be interesting to see what Kurzweil's R&D team could come up with if they had the same amount of resources made available to them that Yamaha's have had. Considering the problems Kurzweil have had in recent years it was just good to see them producing again. The more choice the better.

  • How's the sax and violin on this synth?

  • Expect them to be exactly the same as those in the Motif XS. So look for examples of those to get the idea.

  • my piano teacher taught me to play piano with the hands as if you are holding a bowl (curved fingers)...the blonde chick is playing with flat fingers...lol

  • Obviously having pretty looking nails is more important to her. Says a lot about her mindset.

  • Which mindset is that?! Looks like she's doing alright to me...And please feel free to post the videos of the gear you're demoing for your endorsers...

  • That image is more important than talent and ability.

I don't get paid to endorse equipment and nor would I want to. As I've already said being endorsed is about image and not about ability.

  • Since when has great music been about the artists' technique?!

  • What great music is there were the artist hasn't got great technique?

  • I think that's a tad harsh, there's no point in endorsing someone if they can't actually perform (what I would class as talent and ability) is there? And just cos she has the image they want doesn't mean she doesn't care about content!

It depends what you class as great technique - to me it would mean that they were relaxed and solid enough on their instrument so as not to impair the delivery of their performance. So in that respect I would argue that there's nothing wrong with her technique.

  • No pianist/keyboardist I know has long nails because it impairs your ability to play a keyboard instrument. Hand position is critical and one of the first things taught when learning. So she either doesn't know how to play correctly or is prepared to sacrifice her playing ability by having inappropriately sized nails for purely cosmetic reasons. It's more likely to be the latter so therefore we can safely say content is not her main priority.

  • It may impair you're ability to play - but since she's not exactly playing anything on the piano that's too technically demanding I would be more likely to assume that she just feels that she can can look nice and still play well.

Maybe if she taught herself to play the piano then technique wouldn't be high on the list - perhaps it would just be a means to an end of getting out what she wanted to in the song (ie the content) which is surely why most people become a singer songwriter?!

  • Sorry...that should have been your not you're. And at the end (technique) I was talking about flat hands and your comment about not knowing how to play correctly and no longer the fingernails.

  • @RedDevilNumber10 Sorry.... I should have watched to the end.

  • Music IMHO is about what you hear and her performance sounds good to me

  • Why oh why use the screen of a MM6 on this great machine?!?

  • To save money.

  • W name of song martyna singers??thx

  • Heroes

  • The keys on both keyboards are weighted.

Would have been nice though if they'd have moved the pitch and modulation wheels on the S70XS above the lowest octave to make it shorter. The price difference between both keyboards is small and the difference in length isn't that great either. I don't see too many people going for the S70XS and it could be seen as a missed opportunity by Yamaha at offering a portable S-Series keyboard.

  • Now I've seen the actual prices for these two keyboards I find it hard to believe Yamaha can justify the price.

For the S90XS you're looking at £2822 and for the S70XS £2717. The S90ES can be had for less than £2000 so you're paying over £800 more for the sightly improved XS sounds and the new S6 piano sample.

I'm sure there are other modifications in there but I don't think this tallies up to £800 worth of improvements.

  • Are the keys on the S70XS actually weighted and not semi weighted? If that's the case then that's really hot.

  • yeah ....the keys are FULLY WEIGHTED!!!!!!!

  • where did you see the prices?

  • I looked at a number of UK music shops. All had the same prices on their websites.

  • what websites?

  • Several. But you can look at Digital Village and Dolphin Music.

  • i just saw it....thanks i really want to get one for my birthday.....

(its in september.YEAH!!)thats when they release it.

  • I hope you get one. Maybe even the price will drop when it is released, I'd like to think so anyway. I'm sure by going into a shop rather than buying online you'll get more knocked off.

  • Bert is a very good tech sales guy. :)

In terms of the sounds, I'll have to hear it live to form an opinion, but I would want to assume that in three plus years, the technology has improved and that should translate to improved musical sounds.

  • Martyna's t-shirt looks so cool~~

  • Bert is the best [2]

  • That new piano sound is better than S90ES ???
