Quote : "In 1945 he abdicated as Emperor but later returned to lead the Saigon-based State of Vietnam as Chief of State."
When was it that State of Vietnam established ? Who was the France's president at that time ? Did they have a treaty to declared VN an independent country allied with France ? Where was the treaty signed ?
@teateatheman The State of Vietnam was established in 1949 when Vincent Auriol was President of the Fourth Republic. There were a number of treaties and agreements signed but it was complicated with the level of "independence" disputed by enemies and supporters of the government. The 1948 Halong Bay agreements called for a unified Vietnam, "associated" with the French Union -that is often cited.
@Rico8458 Pure Vietnamese -Vietnamese monarchs did not often take Chinese wives, their consorts were usually of their own country or neighbors like Thailand.
king Taksin of thailand's father was chinese, and the current house of chakri also has chinese blood, via their first king Rama I, and the current king bhumibol's mother also had some chinese blood.
@MadMonarchist All Queens of Nguyen Dynasty were chosen from Southern Provinces of Vietnam to appreciate Southern people who had help Nguyen's before Gia Long Emperor get the throne. When the lady was chosen, she was named as Highest Mistress, not Queen. It restricted the lady who was King's wife or mother to control the country. She was named as Queen after she died. There was only exception with the last Emperor. He named his first wife as Nam Phuong Hoang Hau- The Queen of Southern Area.
true. Ive only read stories of vietnamese lords marrying cham, thai and khmer women if they marry outside of country. however the populus mightve taken chinese spouses.
@Rico8458 you cant say that vietnamese are mix chinese. china is next to vietnam so its normal that the most of us are half or mix chinese. there's many chinese which are half vietnamese at the border too, but they are chinese and we are vietnamese!!! we dont like to be called "chinese" my friend^^
@Rico8458 Chinese mix? You speak as though China is one homogenous group. China has many different ethnic groups speaking different dialects. As much as the Chinese government want to find the core Han Chinese gene, it doesn't exist because in real life, genetic drift is a gradient, there's no clear cut line.
