  • And that's where the Bobby Knight Special was born. At furniture stores all over Indiana they said, Buy a couch and we will throw in a chair. - True Story

  • And this is why I love Bob Knight.

  • what a washed up loser

  • @APFla82 ur a moron. hes arguably the greatest coach of all time and is still extremely relevant in the world of college basketball. If you knew anything about the game you would know that. washed up? why bc hes older than you? what a dumb comment

  • @bootsythornton how is bobby knight still relevant lol? He's a bitter old man who wouldn't even go support his son coaching @ lamar vs kentucky because he doesn't like UK wah wah.

He sits around dissing current coaches for their ethical behavior meanwhile he can choke out and throw chairs and he is viewed as a saint.

greatest coach of all time? now there's a truely dumb comment

  • Read the book "Loose Balls" it was about life in the American Basketball Association, You can read how Julius Erving chucked a chair across the court after a no-call at the hoop. That was pre-Knight too. :)

  • Drink?

  • if the refs had anything hanging between their legs, they would have ejected knight from the game.

  • @nissansentraglx They did.

  • not my chair, not my problem.

  • CHAIR ABUSE!

  • The man looked calm as ever as he threw that chair. We here at IU throw fits with class.

  • Ron Swanson!

  • Lady Gaga would have thrown that fuckin chair 50 more feet than bob knight

  • Chair throwing? So Bobby Knight is the basketball version of Steve Ballmer.

  • knight was one hell of a coach, sure he was an asshole, thats what made him great! i followed indiana university from 1974 until 9-11-2000 the day they fired him.and i never looked back!!

  • @iujock1974 didn't your wife tell you to do something???

  • That POS should have been fired that night. No questions asked. PERIOD. Miserable POS. Yes I graduated in 1998. The school matters, not the coach.

  • @iujock1974

    "Yes I graduated in 1998"

    From where? Purdue?

  • Bob Knight was a hypocrite, held his players to a higher standard than he held himself to. Makes me sick.

  • He saw someone over there standing, he was just giving them a chair.

  • Indiana we're all for YOUUUUUU!!!!! Da da da da da DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA "IU"

    For those who know.

  • Bad moment for BK, but he put IU on the MAP, 29 years, 20+ avg. wins per season. 3 national titles!!! Smacked a few cry-baby players, so what! America has become so soft when it comes to discipline. Those were the good old days. And the shit on the toilet paper comment: Awesome, more coaches should do the same. Toughen up these little smart-ass punks. God Bless BK. Thank you sir. You were Great!

  • lol taakin it out on the chair

  • Remember this one Bob? What a fine way to represent your former University.

  • my high school baseball coach threw a metal chair onto the baseball field when he was mad maybe its an indiana thing

  • Sadly, a great coach is defined by this incident. It went too far and I don't know if he ever apologized for it. I doubt it. When Bob Knight had to prepare for a game, most of the time he was going to beat you. Always got the most out of his players and the think that I can see that makes me admire him the most is his good graduation rate. At least it was good at UI. He was certainly one of my favorite characters. Red Auerbach loved him and speculation was at one time he was going to C;s

  • I remember this happening. Awesome :-)

  • i dont even give a shit thats funny

  • Should've been done for the year - what a POS he really was and what apologists the IU fans have been for Knight and Sampson.

  • There is no excuse for that type of behavior. I don't care how unfair those referees may have been. That type of behavior is childish! Knight is such an ass.

  • @springjo1 Who would you rather have as a coach? Ned Flanders?

  • @espnjason Coach K, Rick Pitinoe, Roy Williams, Billy Donovan, Tubby Smith, or anybody else who can win National Championships without being a jerk.

  • @springjo1 not a jerk. a great coach with the passion to win.

  • @springjo1 Coach K is a jerk (one of the foulest mouths you will ever hear), and Pitino just screws around on his wife with some whore on a restaurant table. Class guys. K's mouth doesn't bother me (tons of cussing jerks are great coaches), but Pitino is a jerk in his personal life, much worse than being a jerk on the court.

  • in 49 states, it's just basketball. But this is INDIANA!!!!!

  • guess he had a temper tantrum

  • Greatest moment ever.

  • Coming from a Purdue fan, I wish there were more Bobby Knights in the big ten.. He was an incredible coach and gave everyone something to talk about. Now, it's just the ohio state conference lmao.

  • IU lost this game 72-63 to Purdue. Boiler Up! It seems that even a chair tossing episode isn't enough to wake up that group of Hoosier rejects.

  • @ThinkOutsideTheCube I'd feel the same way if I was a Purdue fan, with its campus that literally smells like sh**, their bell tower that needs numerous repairs to keep it from falling down (engineering school), and fine Ag program that attracts the fattest farm daughters and jumbo belt buckle wearin douches in the state. Painter will get a Title, and with it, PU fans will lose their inferiority complex, and maybe cease chanting 'IU Sucks' at the Oaken Bucket, only to lose to a team that 'sucks'.

  • @ThinkOutsideTheCube Uh oh, a fan suffering an inferiority complex to the Hoosiers is loose! Maybe his jumbo belt buckle isn't big enough, or his Boilers need a national title to stop the nonsensical 'IU sucks' on Youtube. I agree the Hoosiers really do suck this year compared with Purdue. I love the FB statuses that say 'good day, IU lost'....its funny, but I don't understand it, perhaps its because I don't suffer the same afflictions that Purdue fans do.

  • @dointhat420 i'll be the first to admit that watching the oaken bucket over the past few years is like watching a pillow fight, but at least Purdue fans have basketball season to look forward to. your last tournament championship was nearly a quarter of a century ago. please continue to pride yourself on the accomplishments of this degenerate coach, because Hoosiers have nothing to look forward to but mens' soccer and womens' field hockey. in West Lafayette, we play real sports.

    cheers.

  • Say what you want about Bob Knight, his number of wins speaks for itself. Yeah, he may not have been the best at public relations, but by the same token, the media egged him on, too. They were either ill prepared for Bob Knight, or they deliberately would put him in a situation that would create juicy and controversial sound bytes that would make people who were none the wiser as to what kind of a man Knight is to say, "There goes Bob Knight again. He's such an asshole!" Bob Knight = Greatness.

  • OMG poor chair

  • @CountofMC LOL my thoughts exactly!

  • Bobby Knight = Theory X

  • Only great men give up the chair they sit on to strangers.

  • He's a role model for his players and he represents the university. You can't behave like a 5 year old. Absolutely unacceptable.

  • Bobby Knight.....the ultimate chair person.

  • Punkass, no-class, spoiled jock asshole. Anyone who apologizes for tantrum-throwing babies like this like this is a moron.

  • Make no doubt Bob Knight will go down as one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time with three National Championships...but what will forever kill his image are stupid incidents like this one from back in 1985. If that chair had hit me I would of sued Mr. Knight and the University of Indiana.

  • i dont understand why people get so mad at someone showing emotion?

  • Holy shit! haha My dad told me about this the other day and I had to check it out. Let it out coach. Don't hold back. Sometimes you just have to throw a few chairs =]

  • lmao i wish bobby never retired

  • That's what I call coaching

  • 22 people got chairs thrown on their heads by Coach Knight

  • what's the T for? He just doesn't like cheerleaders.

  • i wouldv done the same thing...the call was bogus and even Reid admits it shouldv been a jump ball and not a free throw. Way to stand up for the team, coach Knight.

  • damn! it just slid across the court. nice form coach knight.

  • Few of Knight's players save Isiah Thomas (and he stayed just two years before Knight could mess up his game) succeeded in the NBA.

  • When he retires, he's gonna own his own furniture store.Every time he sells a couch, he can throw in a chair!

  • Haha.. Boiler Up!

  • @pacers1755 Purdon't

  • @derspenc We don't chant IU sucks for nothing, the ONLY winning record you have against Purdue is baseball, 135-123-2. IU doesn't even come close to that in other sports.

  • @567hurricane Yesterday is history, the futures a mystery. We just beat you in football and your sports program overall had been going downhill for years. You used to be a descent football program now your terrible. Basketball team is prett good because they were all young.

  • @derspenc I firmly blame almost everything on our football coach. But I must admit IU is pretty young and Cody Zeller will change it.

  • That chair had it coming!

  • Epic.

  • I used to work with Steve Reid. First day on the job I told him I remembered when he was on the line when Knight threw the chair. He seemed disgusted at his claim to fame.

  • don't worry he's a very good coach good choice as role model mine 2 by the way

  • My parents were at that game lol.

  • I love all you fuckin pussys crying because Boddy Knight was tough on his players thats what America needs not the pussys that hate knight.

  • Never really understood why people call him the greatest coach in college basketball I mean Adolf Rupp never throw chairs across a gym floor and he won more championships then Bobby Knight. To be great coach you have to show on and off the court which he didn't by any means. When you abuse your players like he did which is the reason why he got fired from IU you don't deserve to coach again

  • HE'S JUST A BITCHY LITTLE GIRL WHEN HE DOESNT GET HIS WAY!!!! MORON!!

  • Looky here.

  • A ton of coaches get away with murder in the NCAA, it's just when they quit winning championships AD's don't want to deal with them anymore.

Knight was inarguably one of the best basketball coaches of all time. However, he wasn't fit to coach everybody. I've been pretty lucky in the fact that Steve Green (Knight's first recruit in the early 70s) is a close family friend of ours. He gives Knight credit for his draft into the NBA, but also has said that Knight's style ruined a few talented guys.

  • He was a brilliant coach for his time but refused to change and adapt and like a dinosaur his methods and he became extinct.

  • Great coach, great leader! Liberal school adminstrations hated him! He made his players lives better! Those who did not have the intestinal fortitude fell by the wayside, just like life!

  • I can understand that his player may have looked up to him, but his actions on and off the court were at times completely unprofessional. "Do as I say, not as I do" isnt always a valid statement. Knight was a hypocrite.

  • Man he is mad

  • I saw the title and I laughed immediately!

  • IM MAD!!!

  • hey, for anyone who has something negative to say about Bobby Knight, ask yourself, "did YOU throw a chair into a basketball game"....if not, how dare you critique this brilliant coach

  • he reminds me of woodcock

  • he had his issues. his issues had issues. however, don't use these incidents to judge the whole person. former players have said he was like a father figure to them. his firing only divided one of the most passionate fanbases in the country, and caused a riot that police couldn't control. he had his issues, yes, but he was also loved by many people.

  • @TransAmManIU exactly, i'm not an indiana fan, sorry i went to fsu. but bobby knight kept his players out of trouble, his players graduated, the one player of his who was in a car accident and was paralysed, he kept his scholarship open, so he could graduate from college. that meant the hoosiers had one less player. did he have a bad temper? oh yeah, but he loved his players.

  • @tranurse he taught his players how to be better men, not just better players. they came out of the program not only disciplined but completely loyal to the university. his firing spurned the former players and they just recently started coming back. the players that could handle him would run through a brick wall for the word "INDIANA" on their jersey. despite what people see on court, Knight was/is a very philanthropic person.

  • @TransAmManIU exactly, i'm a 'noles fan, but you could always see that he loved his players and they loved him.

  • Knight was a great coach; IU did him wrong, especially with Myles Brand firing him. Knight had done so much for that school, he did make sure his players did what they were made to do: get an education. I didn't like his mouth or behavior, but he's one of the best coaches in college hoops.

  • But he really is a lovable guy

  • fucking crybaby

  • Classic!

  • Classy

  • Why is he your role model?

  • Obama is a theif as all those other fucking chicago numb nuts that just fuck up the planet. Obama created a new fucking constitution. health care for all. fuck off. Health care is not a natural right its a privledge. why should we spread the wealth. People who have money have it for a fucking reason. working hard, and i'm not giving money someday to some crack smoking rap listening welfare recipient. they can fuck off and go to hell,. Bobby knight has fired me up baby.

  • @captainkill1 Well said. Keep up the intensity and we'll get rid of him soon enough.

  • @captainkill1 same here..... i am in high school right now and I wark so hard to get my 3.8 GPA, i dont want to give my money to someone who drops out of high school who is lazy, who wants me to pick the berries make tha crust from scratch and bake the pie, and he gets some of it? he did not help (metaphor) the only people who should get money are those who work, or those who cant due to a mental illness. (i.e. severe autism, mental retardation, downs syndrome, etc.)

  • god....you guys are spending too much time with these long-winded responses....FACT- Bob Knight won more games than anyone ever. He has 3 National Championships, 11 BigTen titles, 3 Coach of the year awards, a PanAm Gold, and an Olympic Gold medal (only coach ever to do that btw). And yes, he was an asshole. What is with the debate? He was a great coach, possibly the greatest (considering the lack of NBA talent). Great coach, Great asshole. Period. Move on. Sheesh.

  • @syntaxburn actually he has 4 Coach of the Year awards. although, don't assume he never had great talent. his most successful teams were loaded with talent, even the team with Henderson/Cheaney/Bailey while it didn't win the title (Henderson was injured or they would have) had a few McD's All-Americans on it.

  • of course bobby knight is an ass hole. What good coach isn't? you don't hire someone to be nice you hire them to win games.

  • I can't believe this asshole got away with so much for so long. College basketball is so much better without him. Good fucking riddance Bobby Boy!

  • Beyond confused by your comments. Hang your hat on the fact he had a temper but not too many coaches have done more for his players and universities than Robert Montgomery Knight! Do your research before you run your mouth buddy! How about the library built at IU with his own money? Maybe his graduation rate matched by few? Or for being such an "asshole" the three championship banners he put up?! Sounds like someone has a personal problem!! BITCH

  • Have you looked at any videos of this asshole going off at press conferences or individual interviews? What a credit to IU! It was there where he became famous for his profane-laced half-time rant because the players weren't playing to his standards. It was there where he choked a player at practice. It was there where he assaulted his own son on the sideline. It there where he assaulted a non-athlete student for being "disrespectful". Yea, he was really something to be proud of.

  • criticize him all you want but he won 3 national championships. that is more than can be said for 99% of all other coaches. Neal Reed was a prick and deserved to be choked

  • @hoobie06 - Okay, we'll do it your way. You imply that 3 national championships trumps his shortcomings, right? I mean you don't question his shortcomings, you're just saying the results speak for themselves, right? Well, gee, I guess we could say the same thing about OJ Simpson. Never mind he murdered two people, never mind he committed an armed robbery for which he is now serving time, the man won the Heisman Trophy for crying out loud! Interesting path to sainthood.

  • @rwalden2007 That's your opinion, and it is wrong.

  • @WarmUpTheDiesel - My opinion is that I think he is an asshole. However, that opinion is based on the FACTS that I listed above. You can argue my opinion but you can't argue facts. To prove the facts all you have to do is view the videos of the incidents I described. Those videos are not opinions, they are facts. Unless, that is, you are prepared to make the ridiculous argument that what one sees on a video tape is not really what one sees. Can't wait to hear that argument!

  • @rwalden2007 How about this - his graduation rates were consistently the highest in the country, he was adored by everyone involved besides Miles Brand, who had it for him as evidenced by the zero tolerance policy, and he was more passionate about the game than anyone who is coaching today except Coach K, who is Knight's protege. Dickie V thinks Knight should still be at IU, Neil Reid was a rich mama's boy with a silver spoon who brought down the best coach in NCAA history besides Wooden.

  • WarmUpTheDiesel - LOL - Now you've turned the discussion completely around. You claimed, falsely, that my earlier post was my opinion. I laid out the FACTS for you back-to-back-to-back. Now, you are the one expressing an opinion. It is your "opinion" that Knight was adored by everyone. It is your "opinion" Knight was more passionate than others. It is your "opinion" that Neil Reid was a rich mama's boy. Thanks for proving my point -- i.e., you can't argue with facts.

  • that doesn't make any sense lol, you can't say it's someones opinion and then it's wrong. foolish child...

  • Yeah, get rid of coaches who know how to win. Let the losers in, like the president

  • Happy 25th birthday, chair throw!

  • Good effort! Good effort!

    Well done! Well done!

    Thank you! Thank you!

  • It is sad to think of what the Hoosiers have become. Knight was the greatest coach in getting peak performance out of non NBA talent. Its easy to win championships when your team is loaded with first and second round draft picks. KNight won with people who were never great NBA talent with exception of Isaiah Thomas. He taught team basketball. Its to bad his ego got in his way and its to bad IU leadership didn't have the courage to real him in when it first started.

  • Most importantly, Purdue wins the game 72-63.

  • Most importantly, IU wins its 5th national title two years later, and Purdue......I forget what Purdue did....Oh yeah, nothing.

  • Nothing like a no life-moonshine swilling-Kentucky in-bred talking shit about how great UK is when they are still sniffing UCLA''s ass. Hahahahaha

  • @DickChoke rofl dumbass

  • 1998 was a long time ago and it was all Pitino. Cal aint did shit yet. he went undefeated all year at memphis then lose in title game.Thats what uk is gonna do.

  • Talk some more shit you indiana dicksucker!

  • why the arguements, just a waste of time

  • Once Bobby Knight went over the top and became a hot-head, the talent didn't want to play for him. Plain and Simple. From the 90's onward, how many NBA players did IU produce compared to UNC, UK, KU, DUke, et al. There you go.

Frank Martin (KSU) will go the same route if he's not careful.

  • Bob Knight says K-State fans are classless for chanting, "Over-rated." Hmmmm

  • Coach saw someone wandering around over on that side without a chair. He was just trying to help.

  • yea bobby!!!!

  • I hate IU but would want my son to play for Knight cause his kids went to class and didnt get into trouble with the law

  • bobby knight and his son are both crazy and have scary tempers. after firing him they got sampson which was good...until he ruined their program. i guess it sucks if you're and iu fan!

  • The President of IU thought he would make a name of himself by firing legendary Coach Bob Knight. Funny, I don't even remember the assholes name but as the other posters have pointed out, the program has sucked since then.

  • @duganfry The program sucked before they got rid of this piece of shit too, what's your point?? Since like the 70s, Bobby Knight has done NOTHING.

  • If you don't like knight, fine. There are many things to criticize him for. But please, please know your stuff before you go opening your mouth on youtube. In the 80's, IU won two championships in 81 and 87 and were routinely in the top 10. In the 90's, IU went to the final four in 92. Thats just getting started. Thats not including the Big Ten Championships. Your comment shows an obvious ignorance about Indiana basketball and a bias against Knight.

  • @x001m69

You didn't iclude : winningest college coach of All Time ; Pan-AM Games Gold Medal winning coach: OR 1984 Olympic Games Gold Medal winning coach.....

  • I think I made my point well enough. I grew up only an hour from Bloomington and am IU fan. With that said, there were things Knight did that were embarrassing and there were times I wish he would have just shut his mouth and do what he did best and that was coach. His public exploits overshadowed his personal graciousness to people in community, namely my grandmother. Knight was a god to my grandmother and she faithfully sent him b-day cards. He once called her and gave her tickets.

  • @x001m69

You know, you are right. I have watched Kentucky pound Indiana year in and year out all my life. That makes me realize that they suck. And Big Ten Championships don't mean shit. Hoosiers AND Robert Montgomery Knight belong together in their big old pool of SUCK.

  • Ok so you are a Kentucky fan. Kentucky has been one of the best programs in the country. I agree with you that Big Ten Championships don't mean as much today as they did back in 70's and 80's when the conference was better. I'm curious why you conveniently left out the two national titles in the 80s when you said they sucked after the 70's. You show no objectivity in your arguement and will do like most people who can't win arguements on their merits. You resort to potty mouth and name call

  • Oh by the way, if you remove Kentucky from the SEC what do you have in basketball? YOu have one minor blip with Florida a few years back, but thats it. How many SEC teams have reached the final four over the last 30 years. Outside of Kentucky and Florida, I cannot think of any. How many SEC teams have won national titles in last 30 years outside Kentucky and Florida? If you put KU in Big Ten right now, they own it. But over last 30 years, they would not have had same success as in SEC.

  • Kentucky is indeed one of the top programs in the country. They don't suck just because I 'm not a fan of them. I can't stand the Boston Red Sox, but I don't think they suck. I can't stand Dallas Cowboys, but that doesn't mean they suck. WHat defines a teams success is what they do on the field or court. Its hard to have an intelligent conversation with people who can't see beyond their own biases. You make irrational comments.

  • OHHH my friend ,,,,Kentucky is NOT the fucking Red Sox....They are the fucking YANKEES!! They are the top of the peak, they are what others hope to become.....remember that bitch!!!

  • Dude, at least make rational comments. The only college team that could claim to be on par with the Yankees would be UCLA and I can't stand UCLA. With their 11 national titles, they have won the most. At least I can be objective. Don't even put KU in same breath with my Yankees man. Like I said, KU is a great program and they would be my favorite to win the title this year. I will likely root for them in the tournament. YOu must be about 13 years old with your potty mouth.

  • You are a fucking fool! Kentucky is the first school to top 2000 wins and obviously are only concerned with what has happened in the past few years. Learn what true tradition is FOOL!!

  • Do you not read my comments in their entirety. I have said all along that Kentucky is one of the top programs and traditions in the country. Yes, I'm aware of their 2000 wins and that is impressive. I'm not bad mouthing Kentucky and I agree with many comments that have been made. My issue is with people that just want to bad mouth any other program that isn't their favorite. I am a college basketball fan and appreciate many programs, even KU.

  • Look, read all my comments and I think you will see that I have stated that KU is a great tradition. I'm not sure how you are missing that. That theme is all over my comments.

  • In terms of National titles, KU has won either 5 or 6 titles I believe. Indiana has won 5 for sure. Over the decades most serious college fans would list the top five programs in the country (Not in any particular order) as Kansas, North Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana and UCLA. Of the 5, my Hoosiers have been the weekest over the past 15 years. Just remember, Calipari will eventually cause embarrassment for the KU program as he has a tendency to break NCAA rules.

  • KU is Kansas you dumbass

Kentucky is UK, get it right or stop preaching about how much you know about college basketball when in reality you are fucking clueless!!!!

  • KU/UK my mistake. At least I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong. But wow, I give a bunch of correct information and you pick on two letters out of order. AGAIN!!!! I do believe UK is a great program as I have stated all along. What is your problem with what I have shared the past few days. I don't get it. Its not like I have been some blowhard Louisville fan ranting about how the Cardinals are better than Wildcats and talking bunch of stupidity. You need to lighten up.

  • What about the TWO national championships ( '81 and '87) and the Olympics in '84? Did you forget about those?

  • Miles Davis

  • mike

  • I meant Miles Brand, Davis? Brain lapse

  • I'm an IU grad, attending the school when Knight was coach. He was a great coach in the sense he knew how to lead winning teams and inspire loyalty from the players and fans alike. But it was also marred by his series of misbehaving incidents which were tolerated over the years. Chair throwing is nothing compared to the other incidents. I wasn't too happy when it came to his getting fired in 2000, but I have to say his behavior finally caught up with him - he was almost fired months before.

  • what team was that against

  • Purdue

  • what happened after this? was there a punishment or anything?

  • bobby knight should have taken that chair and beaten the ref over the head with it. the big ten has consistently produced the worst referees in all of division one college basketball...

  • I miss the old days of Hoosier basketball.

  • im from bloomington indiana, i feel ya

  • hopefully Crean can get something going soon. I can't take much more of the shit from my friends who attend Purdue

  • Great, ballsy coach, I'll give him that. But goddamn, he's an asshole and a terrible person. Back in 2000, he gave some IU student shit about not showing him proper respect when he simply said "Hey, Knight, what's up?"

  • all he did was grab the kid by the arm and told him to call him Coach Knight.

  • The kid he did that to was a weasel and a known liar.

  • A terrible person??? Are you friggin' serious?!?! C'MON

  • That would be Mr. Knight or Coach Knight, and just so happens that that kid's father was a big news guy in the Indy Star i believe. Go figure Knight's favorite type of people, and you put Bob Knight on zero tolerance and that's what you get. It takes nothing away from the great coach he is and what an amazing person he is as well.

  • Bobby Knight is a saint... The best coach to ever coach the sport. His players would play the game right, not the bull shit that basketball is now

  • i absolutely agree with you

  • Well said!!

  • Comment removed

  • My mom and dad were at that game

  • i like to see bobby pull that shit MLB. those umps would get right in there

  • well my friend bobby doesnt coach baseball so im guessin you will never see it. plus baseball is for fags
