I like that rat/mice breeding set up you got too are they both done the same way 1/4 ratio male to females? I'm spending about 40-60 dollars on rats, mice, pinkies every two weeks so a setup similar to what you got there would be ideal for me.
@souldiesoul I try to keep the ratio pretty low, but sometimes I get a lot of them that have babies at one time, and right now I'm kind of limited on cages, so sometimes the ratio gets to be a little more. The guy that got me started ususally keeps his ratio at about 1 male to 2 or 3 females. The more room you have to breed, the better.
Well i have about a four month old Florida King male, male Hypo Corn Snake, and a Anery Corn Snake that at this point I'm questioning the sex of because the pet store that i get my snakes from never knows the sex of what they are selling. So I'm basically trying to pair up a few of my snakes and add to my collection. I really appreciate your reply back and if you decide you want to sell any of your snakes or can help me out just hit me up anytime here, or at cceverready9 at gmail
@souldiesoul Thanks! I would love to start selling snakes. I've had several requests. I need to find the best way to ship them, especially with the way the weather has been where I live. With the babies that have hatched, I want to make sure they have been eating well, and I want to make sure the snakes are healthy. I also don't want to get in trouble selling something I'm not supposed to. Certain snakes are illegal for me to sell here. Let me know what you are interested in.
@wootstalker I'll try to make this short. It all started with a need to cut back on snake food costs. A lady from church told her daughter that I like snakes, and the daughter's boyfriend also collects snakes. The boyfriend bred his own mice and rats, and he helped get me started. He has given me a lot of advice along the way. It's a lot of work, and I still don't have it down pat yet.
@Leecop1000 I really need to do an update. I just got a new shed/building behind my house that I am going to move a lot of my collection into. I need to get some modifications done first. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.
mate anyone who knows anything about ball pythons knows thta they work best in threes they are in groups in the wild aswell.... iv noticed that about US snake keepers you hate grouping snakes and tbh unless its a king why the hell should they not
@MrBlade121 Not sure what you mean. I group as many things in one cage as I can. Currently, I have 11 Texas Rat Snakes in one cage, 8 different corn snakes in one cage, 2 cages with 5 different kinds of rat snakes in each one, 4 Ball Pythons in one cage, and 3 Copperheads in one cage. Right now, the only thing I don't have in one cage together are the King Snakes and the 3 clutches of babies that just hatched.
It's funny how people assume that because people like big houses, snakes do too. ANYWAY I know you said it's a temp setup for the pythons, but you probably shouldn't house them together anyway. Space or not, they can stress each other out. You should probably at least have dividers in there. But hey, if you can make it work, more power to you.
@shinigamigirl666 I know what you mean. I've had several people complain about my set up. I've moved my ball pythons to a 75 gallon tank, and they seem to be doing fine. I may try to separate them later. Thanks.
@Amber05098 actaully its the best way. snakes do not like big spaces so they feel vaunerable in a big tank...if you were to give a snake a big cage...it would probably only ocupy a foot or less of the tank.....that is why snakes need a hiding spot because they feel vaunerable in a big area.....and because snakes like dark cosy spaces and they dont need light tubs are great and are the primary way to keep snakes =)
@Amber05098 for example...u may know that almost all snakes hide under rocks logs and rubbllle.....now a snake that u might find under a log...will stay in that log all day....so if u think about it a tub is alot bigger than a log that they usualy live in
Very nice set up. You have given me some good ideas. I have a small, but nice snake collection, growing every time I see another awesome snake. Just seeing your set up tells me I have room for another corn in my big tank.
Hey steven I live in Shreveport also. This is gonna sound crazy, but I buy my mice from a guy named Rodney who was telling me about a guy that he knew that had a bunch of snakes with a couple of copperheads outside. He said he helped the guy start a hairless rat colony. When I stumbled upon this video it clicked that you are the guy. I asked Rodney just to be sure and he said it was you. Small world huh? Just glad to see there are other people like me out there. Lol.
hey man im subscribed to you. its pretty cool to see someone weho like to collect reptiles like me. you should check out some of my vids, just pulled my kingsnakes out of brumation and will have some vids up on them as well. Your wild caught speckled kingsnake looks exactly like my wild caught king. keep on postin them vids man specially when you get rare itegrades and phases thas what im really into is crossing patterns :)
dang buddy thats a long way to get a prairie kingsnake. haha if you lived around me or had a way to ship reptiles i will sell you one for like twenty bucks!!! Theyre the most common king in kansas... what kings are most common where u live aka where do you live state ?? lol for snake purposes only
@stoversnakes I live in Shreveport, LA. The most common kings in LA are the Speckled, Milk Snake, and Scarlet. Supposedly Prairies and Moles are common, but I've never seen a Mole King, and I've only seen the one dead Prairie.
@stoversnakes I actually drove 3 hours to pick up the prairie kings. I've only seen one where I live, and it was dead. Someone had run over it. Hopefully this next summer will bring me some awesome stuff.
Gotta love homedepot

You can put heat pads under plastic tubs no problems at all, if the pads got hot enough to melt the tubs, then they would burn your snakes.

Why nothing exotic and cool like a giant centipede? Are snake the only critters that catch your interest enough to keep?
